Advantages: easy setup, fast transfer rate even with USB 2.0, quiet and keeps cool. Disadvantages: one touch program is a bit difficult to use at first, but very usefull for backing up entire hard drives
...I was looking for an economic means of storing digital media (MP3 and Video) and the MaxtorOneTouch250GB worked out perfectly. USB interface is great for using the harddrive for older and newer PC without sacrificing too much transfer speed. Maxtor makes a fire wire HD but the USB has been more that adequate for playing MP3's directly from the drive. The drive runs cool and has a free state mode where the internal discs basically run on an air bearing, so it can be left on all the time without harming the drive or using much power. The design is sleek and modern, I have no problem displaying it on a desk. the vertical stand keeps the profile small and easy to put almost anywhere. I have had no issues at with the drive so far, and the capacity for the money can't be beat. The only concern I had with the OneTouch Software...

Advantages: Very fast, reliable and quiet... and Cheap! Disadvantages: Absolutely nothing!
...- The 250GBdrive has a large cache and a faster spin speed than the disk it replaced. I also had the room to re-master a few home videos I have made, and within a day I had used up a total of 130GB.
Maybe soon I will be buying another one of these drives to fit as a Slave!
I really like the Maxtor DiamondMax 10 250GB - It proves you don't have to spend a lot of money to get the best!...

Advantages: Value. Disadvantages: Unreliable, Noisey, maxtor's warranty is a joke.
...that I was not covered by there warranty as the only offered it on their newer models of harddrive. After a long series of disputes they finally offered to "service the harddrive" and "repair the components that were failing" but I did not fancy the idea of sending my harddrive through the post to them, as I am sure they recover all my banking information and password quite easily from the drive. They refused point blank to offer any solution and from now on I will not be using Maxtor or Seagate (both the same company) I will be sticking to my old reliable Hitachi, Samsung etc drives. It seems the higher capacity harddrive you pick the more prone it is to failure too, as my friend bought a 250gbMaxtor Sata drive and it failed faster than mine, and after searching through lots of forums I have discovered I am not on my own at all....

Well what can i say. I chose maxtor because i thought it was a good named brand and would be reliable. Plus the fact they have been taken over by seagate who have been in the hard drive business forever. With these two factors you would think this would... more
Maxtor is a big Hard Drive manufacturer and I have used them before even buying drives to put into two of my own PCs and both times the drives have worked fine, knowing this I thought they would make good external drives...
