Advantages: Easy to use, good support Disadvantages: Packaged software
When reviewing this external hard drive I really have to do it in 2 sections, one section about the packaged software and one about the hard drive its self.
So firstly the software. The drive came with a disk with 'Dantz Restrospect Express HD 1.0'. This disk installed easily enough, but, and there is always a but, I had numerous problems with version '1.0', the main one being that after it was installed it would stick at 'updating status', not allowing you to perform any backups. This is apparently down to a conflict with the new Microsoft .net framework. So after you have installed version 1.0, go immediately to the Maxtor website and download v1.1. This worked first time and it was extremely smooth and easy to use. It can be a little slow to do large back-ups, but I'd rather that it did it slowly and properly, than quickly ...
Advantages: Quick, easy to to set up Disadvantages: None!
This is the second external hard drive I have bought as I managed to fill up my old one. I decided to go for Maxtor as my older one was made by the same company, although it was obviously an older model.
I was concerned it would be difficult to set up but it couldn't be easier. If I didn't have a problem with it then anyone can do it. The instructions don't go into too much detail but then its not really necessary for them to.

You can link the hard drive to your computer using USB or firewire, both of which come with the hard drive. I personally use USB ...
