Advantages: cant find a single one... but the none waterproof one is excellent! Disadvantages: My lashes look AWFUL. Clumps and no length plus stuck together!
I did a review a few months ago on Maybellines define-a-lash mascara and spent the whole review raving about how amazing it was and how I would never spend the amount of money I used to on Estee Lauder mascaras as it was as good... if not better! Eventually the mascara ran out (it lasted for ages making it even better value for money) so off I popped to Boots to pick some more up.
Taking the bright green mascara tube out of the pack ... ...it had a blue piece on the lid. I double checked the pack that I hadn't picked a blue mascara up instead of black, by mistake, and then noticed that it said "waterproof" in the tiniest writing underneath the define-a-lash logo. I have never been a massive fan of waterproof mascaras anyway but the mascara I'd used last time was so good, and I'd taken it out of the package by now, so I decided to go ahead and use it anyway...
Taking the bright green mascara tube out of the pack the next morning, the first thing I noticed was that it had a blue piece on the lid. I'd just make sure I picked the right one up next time. After all, how much difference would it make?
For those of you that havent read my normal define-a-lash review, the brush on all of these mascaras is a flexible rubber type material. The first couple of times that you use the mascara, it can be quite difficult to apply as the brush bends. After a few attempts I got used to this and actually found it better than a standard rigid brush. It is slightly shaped so it helps to reach all of your lashes with the minimum of efforts and strokes.
When you remove the brush from the tube, the flexible brush is pulled through an internal clump remover. The idea is that the clumps stay in the tube and never reach your eye lashes, therefore no chance of those horrible spidery lashes that happen with so many mascaras.
You can easily apply the mascara layer by layer until you reach your desired effect. Well that is the idea anyway. With the normal mascara I found this really easy and had the most stunning, long, fluttering eye lashes. I couldn't believe it when people started commenting on them. How ever, with the waterproof variety this isn't the case. The first time that I applied the mascara I ended up with clumps all over my lashes. I had to completely remove my eye makeup and start again (and it wasn't easy to remove either!). The 2nd time I applied much less mascara and didn't apply any more layers, therefore having the effect of more or less any mascara out there on the market. I also still had some clumps. This mascara was one of the most disappointing things I'd bought of late. I was even more disappointed as I thought I'd picked up the same one as I did last time and that one was so good! I still can't believe the difference!
I've been using this mascara for a few weeks now, as I refuse to go out and buy some more until I've had a bit of use out of it. Also, I wondered if it would get better. It hasn't. I think I will have to go out and buy the none waterproof variety as there's no way I would want to use this one for a night out. It doesn't give anywhere near the effect I want, or the one they advertise.
All in all this mascara is a massive disappointment. I can't even think of a plus for it to be honest. I think my daughter owns better mascaras than this... and she's 9!! I wouldn't recommend you to buy this one at all. If you're after long, gorgeously separated lashes then I would say to go and buy the normal version of this as it is amazing, but if you need a waterproof mascara then look elsewhere and save yourself the £7.49 it costs!
Just for information the packaging states:
Zero clumps Perfect definition Sensuously long lashes
The mascara is ophthalmologically tested and is suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers. Personally I don't think it's suitable for anyone, whether you have sensitive eyes or not and regardless of whether you wear contact lenses. Not recommended.
Advantages: Erm.... Disadvantages: Well it's totally rubbish? lol
...side I'm told it is Maybelline Define-A-Lash waterproof mascara and that's it on the information stakes.
The Mascara....
Well I was really excited at the thought of using this cos if the truth be known I don't think I've ever splashed out £7.99 on a mascara before and my expectations were really high! However this really is... sh... sorry rubbish!
As you pull the' wand' out of the tube the brush situated at the bottom wobbles all over the place ... ...which feel rubbery to the touch, the smell is horrid (really cheap) and the brush is coated well with black mascara (in my case).
Pulling the brush out of the tube or shoving it back in is flipping hard cos it's so flexible.
So you can simply apply one coat or build up the colour, that is your choice! Though saying that trying to put another coat on over a coat is well hard!
I find it a nightmare to apply it quite frankly. The brush wiggles everywhere, ...

...apart for me; I trust Maybelline as a brand and have always found their mascaras to be very good indeed. This one however, simply is not. On clean lashes it takes a lot of effort to get a good coverage on the lashes, I do not know if this is because the clump remover actually takes most of the mascara off the brush rather than the clumps that seem to remain, but it seems that way to me. The amount that you can apply between nowhere near enough so ... ...a let down from the Maybelline brand, The mascara takes a lot to get any positive effect and is not really worth the effort and hassle for the price you pay and results you receive. I'll definitely stick to either my much loved full and soft or the wonderful lash stylist. Thanks for reading! :) ...

Waterproofmascara is a must for me, my eyes always seem to water in the bright light and if my mascara runs then it looks a total mess, if the top lashes start to run then it blackens your eye make up too.
The MaybellineDefine A Lashwaterproofmascara comes in two shades, brownish black and very black. The brownish black is the one for me, just slightly softer and therefore better against my pale skin tone.
As much as I moan about the prices I have had Maybellinemascaras time and time again and up to date I have always been pleased with them.
The mascara has a good `bushy` brush which Maybelline describe as being shaped to the lash. The brush is fairly firm to the touch and you can see that the bristles are cut to match the shape of the eyelashes.
The mascara has a decent wand length ...
