When Maybelline dream matte mousse first came onto the market, the advertising campaign behind it was huge. Most women couldn't help but notice it. There were the TV ads, the glossy magazine adverts, and of course all those make-up artists you see on lifestyle programmes, shouting about how brilliant it was.
This product is a foundation, produced by Maybelline New York, which has been air-whipped to produce a mousse, rather than the usual liquid or stick foundations.
~The range~
There are eight different shades in the range to suit all different skin tones. I usually have a problem finding a shade to suit my skin, but as this blends in so well, I found a colour no problem. There are also other mousse products made by Maybelline, including eye shadows, blushers and bronzer. I have tried the eye shadow, but didn't find it to be very good (see my review), whereas the foundation is excellent. Therefore, I would say if you have used another product from the Maybelline mousse range and not liked it, don't let that stop you from trying the foundation.
~Packaging~
The foundation comes in a glass pot, with a plastic screw off lid, matching the colour tone of the product inside. The glass pot is quite heavy and also bulky, which makes it quite inconvenient to carry around. The packaging is OK - pleasant to the eye, but nothing special at all.
~Using the product~
The product itself is just like an edible mousse - light and fluffy. I always feel the best way to apply it is with the fingers, and running a finger through it, you can see it's light, fluffy texture. The mousse glides over the skin easily, and blends in easily - also it only takes a minimal amount to achieve a good coverage. It blends in easily, which makes it very quick to apply -and let's face it, anything that saves you time in the morning has to be a good thing!
~Results~
After application, this gives a very smooth and natural finish that almost looks airbrushed. It covers blemishes, and gives skin a healthy finish. It also feels incredibly light on the skin, to the point that you don't notice it, a sharp contrast to most liquid foundations that I have used. The product is called 'dream matte mousse' for a reason, as this gives a lovely matte effect to the skin. It's also good in hot weather, as it doesn't tend to melt. It tends to last all day, so does not require frequent re-application, which is a big plus point too. The only negative thing I can think to say about the finish, is that if you have dry skin, it tends to cling to it, making it look very obvious. It was fine for use throughout the summer, but now it's getting colder outside, my skin is more prone to dryness, and even when using a heavy moisturiser, this doesn't seem to help, so unfortunately I have had to switch back to my usual Max Factor foundation for now.
~Cost~
This is quite reasonably priced at £4.99 for a 18ml pot. It can be purchased from most Mybelline stockists such as boots and Superdrug.
~Conclusion~
I love this foundation. It's easier to apply than a liquid, it blends easily and gives a long-lasting natural result. As much as I love this foundation, I have found that the way it clings to dry skin, pretty much makes it useless in colder weather. I would recommend that anyone thinking of purchasing this product, bears in mind their skin type first, as this really is useless on dry skin, and makes it look worse! In general though, for a normal skin type, this foundation is absolutely fantastic - especially considering the fantastic price. Definitely recommended!

I love it! I've used it for ages now and still haven't finished a pot. Instead of using their blush i bought another tub of foundation slightly darker than my normal skin colour and use this as a blush. It's perfect because it blends in nicely so you can create a very natural-looking look. Kirsten.
Advantages: Comes in a shade that suits me, little goes a long way, good coverage Disadvantages: Not as many shades available in the UK as the US, slightly drying on my skin
Advantages: A great cheaper alternative, even suitable for sensitive skin. Disadvantages: Stocks are sometimes low in shops - although not manufacturers fault
