So I needed a foundation. I live in the middle of absolutley no- where (nerest Boots- 80 miles. nearest MAC counter- 4 hour drive) and I ordered this foundation off the internet, after I had read about it on Maybelline's homepage, as it seemed to suit my skin.
My Skin So that you get an idea of what type of skin this WON'T work for, this is what type of skin I have. My skin is quite dry, and probably would be very flaky if I didn't moisturize. My skin doesn't tolerate oils- so everything has to be oil- free, hence me picking this foundation. It is also Hypersensitive, and I have to be very careful with cosmetics as I can get allergic reactions from them easily. Usually the less severe reactions cause me to break out with a few spots here and there- which are annoying as they leave little red marks behind- that is why I need to use a base on my skin! I'm also really pale, and this particular foundation seemed to cater for this well.
So what is so special about this foundation? Well, I bought it because it is oil- free, has an SPF of 14, and claims to be 'hypoallergenic' which is important for me. Also the colour range for this foundation was great- however if your skin is quite dark maybe look at other lines for a better match, as the everfresh line seems to be lacking in tones for this skin colour. The price was a somewhat reasonable £6.99. The packaging is a plastic grey and skin- coloured tube, where you simply sqeeze to get the product out. The packaging is deceptive, in that it makes you think there is more in the bottle than there actually is. In fact, you can't see how much is left at all.
Ease of use? I attempted to use and like this foundation a number of times. The first time I went through my usual rountine, and then applied the foundation. Firstly, the foundation has a terrible tendancy to spurt out the bottle, resulting in major spillage and not to mention wastage! After this, is decided to apply with my fingers. Well. It didn't go to plan. Not only did the foundtaion smell weird and strangley familiar (later I realised it smelt of PVA glue) but it set as soon as it touched my skin, making blending impossible. Just as well the shade was a good match then! Not one to be put off, I applied a full face and went about my day. It looked cakey and fake, like a young teenage girl who still thinks that more is more. for the record, I'm not someone who like it to be obvious I'm wearing makeup.
End of day? I wish it had been when I looked in the mirror halfway through the day! In think my first thoughts were: "I need scissors to cut eyeholes in this brown paper bag!" The foundation had caked into every pore, every single line (I'm only 17 turning 18!) and highlighted dry skin flakes I never even knew I had. In short, I looked gross. I don't thnk I've ever wanted to scrub my face so badly in my life. But that was the problem! This stuff really stays on- you need makup wipes and then a full facewash before this stuff is coming off! So I hid in the toilets the rest of the day. I attempted to use it again, this tim with my foundation brush. Although it let me blend a bit better, the same thing happened. I looked awful again! Needless to say, I never used it again. I actually found someone who likes this stuff, so she got it instead!
Would I reccomend? No. Freakin. Way. I think that maybe if your skin was oily, that this might not be so bad. However a friend of mine was amazed when I told her what happened to me wearing this, as the same thing happened to her- and her skin isn't dry. In short, this stuff looks cakey, thick, heavy, un- natural and doesn't feel light enough for me. The coverage is definatley on the medium- heavy side. Maybelline is very hit and miss. Some products have been amazing, but I'm afraid that I can't say the same for this.
Advantages: Cheap, makes you look good in dim light, no need for fake-tan Disadvantages: Heavy, thick, orange, unnatural looking, gives you the skin of Christina Aguilera
...Cosmpolitan, singing the praises of Maybelline Everfresh. A fresh-faced, flawless Erin Wasson beamed at me from the advert, and an 'Exclusively At Boots' sign was tucked away into the corner of the page. I made up my mind to go into Boots, and marched in there the next day.
Unfortunately, I am still scared of the security guards, so I furtively looked around me, grabbed a tester, and dabbed some onto my hand. I chose Nude, paid my £4.49 and walked ... ...nice, not cheap like some Maybelline products at all.
Maybelline Everfresh contains SPF 14, is oil-free which is good for oily skin, won't clog pores and is hypoallergenic, so is suitable for sensitive skins. It claims to be transfer-resistant, and gives you a fresh, just-applied look for eight hours. It comes in a variety of colours, from very very pale to dark honey. There are about seven I think, in the whole range. It caters more for white people ...

Advantages: Excellent long lasting coverage on normal/slightly dry skin Disadvantages: Doesn't have a very pleasant effect on the screen of your mobile phone!
Not being at all confident or comfortable with the general state of my skin, I have worn foundation for years to smooth out the blemishes and give a more even skin tone.
I had long been a convert of Rimmel Hydrafresh, but had run out of Foundation at a pretty crucial moment, as the same time as Superdrug had run out of stock. As usual, I was in a hurry, and didn't have a lot of time to browse through the hundreds of products on offer, so my decision ... ...promise it contained and a bit by price ... I don't believe in paying over the odds for something that is not a necessity! It's my prudent Scottish roots, I think.
The packaging is quite classical for a foundation; a metallic grey, with the shade of the foundation showing through clear plastic, with the promise "Stays Put Day-to-Night". If like me, you are pale skinned, it may be important for your foundation to contain a sunscreen and this one ...

Advantages: Blends in easily, fairly priced, long lasting Disadvantages: Not so good with dry skin
I came across Maybelline's Everfresh Make up initially from a sample in a magazine. I was impressed by it so I decided to go to my local Superdrug and buy some. It cost me £6.49 for a 38ml tube, which fits nicely in to a small handbag or makeup bag. I would say that this price is about right as it is of a good quality. The product does what it says by "staying put day to night" as it certainly maintains a smooth effect on the face all day long, even ... ...SPF, which is always an incentive in the summer months. It covers blemishes and marks well, but is not best used on dry skin, as sometimes it can appear flakey. Maybelline's Everfresh makeup comes in a shade range of:
*Ivory
*Buff
*Nude
*Natural Beige
*Sand
*Tan
The tube of which I bought in April still has two thirds left, as a small amount goes very far. It blends in well to give a natural look. To decrease the shine, I tend to apply a concealer ...
