I don't wear make up all that often.. perhaps I should but I just dont seem to have the time. I have my morning routine down to a fine art now.. 9.5 minutes in the shower, 3.45 minutes to blow dry my hair etc etc. I know, its a sad life but with only me to look after I can afford to have as much of a lie in as possible!
Anyway, this brings me back to the subject of makeup, or indeed my lack of... this is what forced me to take a trip into town to Boots and check out what was available in the mascara department. I was out to impress this time, a housewarming party at the weekend meeting up with old friends and of course needing to make myself as confident and fabulous as possible!
I have quite a list of requirements for my mascara needs, I wear contact lenses so it needs to be suitable for sensitive eyes and I also cry a lot so waterproof is another necessity. I have long eyelashes so no need for any volumising or plumping or any of that new-fangled business and I dont like to be fiddling around with layers of the stuff so I need something that goes on well the first time. Oh, and I'm a skinflint so none of this expensive stuff for me!
Phew, with this in mind I took to the makeup counters to scour out my best buy....
**THE PRODUCT** My eye settled on the vast range of Maybelline mascaras available from plumping to lengthening to creating lashes where I didnt think there could be lashes! In amongst this lot was the 'Great Lash' mascara, unmistakable in its pink and green packaging I picked it up for a closer look. Hmm, I was promised 'Perfectly defined lashes with a clean, seperate look.' So far so good... nothing fancy there. Reading on I was pleased to discover that this mascara had everything I needed and more! Ophthalmologically tested this baby could be poked into the eye of a contact lense wearer and not cause discomfort... obviously not something I would try on a regular basis but still, the option is always there!
This is available in the waterproof version in brown or black, I opted for the brown as I have light hair and eyebrows so it makes sense for me. They do this in the non waterproof style in Brownish Black and Very Black.
At the reasonable price of £4.99 I couldnt resist...
**THE PACKAGING** As mentioned, this is unmistakable.. none of that understated glamour here! The body of the tube is bright pink with the product name and basic information printed on it in black.. see the pic the nice Ciao people have provided! The top of the tube is bright green and this is the bit you twist off that contains the brush. It is the usual mechanism, twist and pull to reveal the application brush at the end.
The brush itself is pretty small, apparantly this is for easier application and for getting into those hard to reach lashes in the corners...
**DID IT WORK?** In a word, yes! This did all it promised on the packet... it went on in one go, no second coat for me. My lashes weren't gooed together and clumpy, in fact I was most impressed. The smaller brush did make it easier to apply and the waterproofness was very impressive, although it was rather hard to remove at the end of the night but you cant have everything! My little sensitive eyes were treated kindly and I basically have no complaints!
**THE VERDICT** Bloomin marvellous! Cant really complain... good value at £4.99 and did everything I asked of it. I got mine from Boots on the high street but I know you can also get it online at their website www.wellbeing.com and at the moment they are offering a free Maybelline bag when you buy online! What more could you want? Recommended to all!
ments for a new kind of blue. From the first brush stroke your lashes appear Denim Blue, intense colour as wearable as your coolest pair of jeans! Great Lash Denim Blue i...

I'm always put off by the packaging of this, but perhaps I will give it a go now :)
