Maybelline is not a brand I’m fond of, on the whole. I find their ads annoying, their packaging cheap-looking and their products so-so. Let’s give it a try.
So I spent my £6.49 for 6.5ml in Boots, and took the tube home. Remarkably simple packaging for Maybelline, it’s the plain black suit of mascaras- a smooth-edged navy tube with neat, if not elegant, silver writing.
Unscrew the cap, wipe off the excess, wiggle through the roots and sweep along… what do I see?
Anyone with a fondness for applying mascara will know that it doesn’t last very long and in any case should be regularly replaced in order to prevent horrible gooey eye infections. While I’m lecturing, may I remind you to stop pumping the wand?! You know you do and it might make you go blind… ;)
The point is, if you’re anything like me, every so often you’ll change the mascara in question to a different kind or brand in a bid to find the perfect lash lengthening, fattening and all round fantastifying (yes, I know it’s made up, but it shouldn’t be) formulation. Well, I’m not sure I have, but this is certainly a step in the right direction.

The Good News:
It’s a thick formulation that coats lashes well with even one coat doing a fair job if you’re not in the mood to stand around building up the coats. In fact, one coat is the perfect everyday amount, with maybe a second for a more dramatic look at night, and so on. It doesn’t glob very much at all, but you do have to wipe the excess off the wand first. One thing it definitely doesn’t do is the hideous spider effect, so it gets good marks for that. It’s quick drying- the only smear I got was my own cack-handed fault, not too sticky and generally a good and reliable choice. It didn't irritate my relatively sensitive eyes, even when I stuck the wand in by accident (you can't take me anywhere) and rubbed at it. I tried it in plain black (the only colour I found, though I'm unsure if others are available) and it has a clear, true colour. It does leave lashes feeling a little dry, but as far as I know it is in fact impossible to find a mascara that doesn't. The main thing for me is that they don't adhere superglue-like to each other, and this doesn't make them do that. They're quite separate, appear slightly longer, slightly thicker and it does make lashes stand out suprisingly well. *bat, bat*
The Bad News:
You may need to scrub your eyelids into infinity before it comes off. My Liz Earle cleanser is pretty damn good but even that needs a good thick application to properly remove this tar! Get yourself a good, non-stinging eye make up remover/cleanser, you’re going to need it! I made the mistake of forgetting I to remove it one late night and as I wasn’t a panda in the morning, I forgot I hadn’t removed it. Until I got in the shower… black eyes all round. It isn’t a waterproof formulation, of course, and to be fair it does take quite a lot of water (and misjudged rubbing of eyes) to make it run, but do bear that in mind if you’re off to see a weepy at the cinema. Actually, though, one morning I found just a tiny trace under each eye left over from unenthusiastic removal and it looked like smoky eyeliner… pretty sexy really. So it’s not all bad!
In fact, I do recommend it and give it four stars… if you’re even slightly as persistent about removing it as it is about holding on to your lashes for dear life, you should be a happy partnership!
It’s made in France, if that means anything to you :)
...new Lash Expansion Mascara.
Maybelline (or Maybelline New York as it was rebranded for the UK market) was launched in the UK in 1998. Before that, I knew of women who made special trips to America to buy Maybelline mascaras. The brand has been going in America for about 80 years so it’s certainly no newcomer to the cosmetics market and is one of the most respected brands. It was born when a chemist mixed coal dust with Vaseline to make a lash darkener ... ...‘Lash Expansion’ it would seem Maybelline have gone back to the old coal dust and Vaseline formulation!
Since its UK launch in 1998, I have used Maybelline ‘Great Lash’ mascara. You may have seen this one in Boots – it’s the one in the disgusting cheap and nasty bright pink and green tube. But it has attained cult status as THE mascara for a very good reason. It’s marvellous. It sells at a rate of one every 1.9 seconds, which is pretty impressive ...

Advantages: Easy to use Disadvantages: Spurious claims.....
Well now here’s a thing! Justine doing a girlie op on make-up?! Unheard of! To be honest I very rarely wear the stuff. If I do, it will be mascara – always, and lipstick – not so often.
I buy very little make-up and spending money on it irks me. Too many other things like CD’s to buy! I have always felt the make-up market has been a huge rip-off. I always favoured the dirt cheap stuff from the market – you know, the black lipsticks that are more ... ...more suited to an ABBA revival concert.
But mascara – that’s different! I have a very pale complexion (being your stereotypical red-headed English rose – ahem!), and as mascara is my only mainstay, then it’s the one thing I am likely to spend dosh on slightly less grudgingly.
So my latest purchase – the first one for three years – is Maybelline’s newish (they seem to bring out a different one every week!) lash expansion mascara. I was unashamedly ...

Advantages: Thick, long, dramatic lashes with no clumps Disadvantages: Might be too harsh or dramatic for normal everyday wear
...look. That’s when I noticed Maybelline Lash Expansion Mascara. What drew me to this was that it says, ‘Wraps each lash 360° for thicker, longer lashes’. I’d never seen another mascara with the same claims, and it sounded like something that should work, so I decided to give it a go. So I picked up a tube in Very Black, because I thought this would give me the dramatic look I was after.

The mascara tube is a blue colour, which looks black under certain light, and has silver writing down the side stating the name and make of the mascara. The ...

...the number and range of Maybelline mascaras. It's a minefield.
Still searching for and never quite finding that "perfect" mascara, this is the latest in a long line of mascaras. I was actually tempted by the offer at my local chemist- £6.17 reduced to £3.10. This, I thought, was quite a bargain for Maybelline because usually they sell for around the £7 mark.

...in plastic with the classic maybelline logo. There is no other way I can put that lol.The tube is pretty thick and is a really dark blue colour. It looks quite stylish and makes me think it's perfect for the business woman and a girl on the go.That doesn't mean however that it wouldn't suit us girls that aren't always on the go though!
*How does it work?*
Well apparently it wraps lashes 360 degrees and it doesn't clump lashes together. This is what ... ...many products promise things like that?and out of them how many actually work?Well I'll keep an open mind. When I pulled the mascara wand out of the bottle I noticed that there isn't a lot of excess liquid. This looks like good news as it means it won't put on more than is needed and it won't clump easily.I have to say though that I find it strange that the wand is straight.I expected it to be curved so it could do it's job properly.I mean how can ...

Advantages: Long Lasting ,Excellent Primer Disadvantages: clumpy
Okay folks , we have maybelline here claiming : "LashExpansion! : Wraps Thickens Lengthens Mascara". Will they stand up to my standard of good quality and medium-to-spend test? ....
Lets do the entertaining gossipy bits first : 1)Smell : smell's like homemade bitter soap its an unpleasent bland chemical odor .
2)No clumps or globs : the container's opening where the wand goes in itself reveals the content of the mascara in sploodges , this not* a smooth formulation nor a creamy crumb-free one *sigh* ~ i dont think any mascara is smudge proof or ive yet to come across one.
3)Texture : its drily textured , lashes dont feel smoothned over in it.
4)Waterproof : it comes off with soap and water easy enough...that makes me wonder : will it withstand rain or humidity or heavy perspiration?.
5)aint no easy peasy love it breezy ...
