I thought I’d give the new Maybelline One by One mascara a try after being so happy with their No. 1 bestseller, the pink and green Great Lash. I’d seen the adverts for One by One on TV where they showed the mini brush (trade marked, apparently) and this immediately won me over. The first mascara I ever had was a Boot No 7 (bought by my Mum) which had a similar looking mini brush and it was the best wand I ever had!
So I picked up One by One in Superdrug over the weekend. There were no black tubes left so I bought ‘True Brown’, which to be honest, when it’s on, doesn’t look that different. These are the only two colours available at present.
The mascara comes in a toothbrush-like packet – the one where you have to rip off the cardboard backing to get the product out of it’s shaped plastic mould. I have actually thrown it away, so I can’t give any details about what was on the packet, but we can safely assume it was ‘NEW!’ and ‘Glides On So Easily!’ and stuff like that.
The mascara tube is fairly long and thin – you’d be forgiven for mistaking it for a liquid eyeliner pen, or indeed, an ordinary pen. The tube is a dark silver, sort of mother of pearl, and the screw-on cap is a brighter, chrome-like silver. The tube has a graphic of the mini brush, the name, and the claim – ‘Defines and Lengthens Every Lash’. It also has the same things in Spanish and what looks like Italian! It then says that it has been ophthalmologically (phew!) tested and is safe for contact wearers to use – which is nice! The colour of the mascara is given on the top of the cap, not the bottom of the tube.
The wand itself is very long and thin – for once I am not brushing my cheeks with my thumb while applying the mascara. When you apply it, the wand does feel quite thin, as if it might break, but this is probably due to the wand being thinner than my usual one (Maybelline Great Lash) and longer to boot.
The mini brush is, indeed, mini. It’s about ½ - ¾ of an inch long and is thinner than a straw. Sorry, I don’t know a better way of describing it, but I expect you have all seen it on TV anyway, and if you haven’t it will be easy to look at on the Maybelline stand or in a magazine!
I find the mascara goes on very well. Normally, I always squidge my mascara wand inside a tissue before applying it anyway, because I really hate having too much on my lashes and them getting stuck together, not to mention getting an extra row of bottom lashes when I sneeze… But this wand actually doesn’t bring out huge clods of mascara anyway, not even on the first few uses. I still blot it a little, but not half as much as with my previous mascara.
Now, we don’t expect the mascara to REALLY separate EVERY SINGLE LASH, and it doesn’t really. Well, not when I’ve used it. Nobody’s lashes ever look like the ones in the adverts, not to mention the hair, the lips, the skin etc etc. But it does give a fair attempt to it. Gone are the days where your mascara treats you to having three big eyelashes, where the whole lot have been stuck together. I do find it defines them better and even makes them look a little longer.
It also dries very quickly. As soon as I finished applying the mascara, I put the wand back in the bottle and touched my eyelashes with my finger and they were already dry, and that’s after two or three strokes. It also does a better job of coating the bottom row of my eyelashes. I used to just hold my mascara vertically and touch the brush to my lower eyelashes, but I can use One by One in the same manner as for the top lashes (ie, horizontally) and again, not get overcoated or stuck together.
How about the Thing-In-My-Eye test? I bet we’ve all had a time where we have something in our eye and have to tug our eyelashes a little to get it out, only to find big black clods between thumb and forefinger, leaving you wondering whether you put too much on and look a bit like Barbara Cartland. Well, One by One fares pretty well. I put my mascara on at about 1.30pm and it’s now 7.30pm. I’ve just squeezed my eyelashes between thumb and forefinger and am fairly pleased with the results. You don't get more scientific with me than this! No big chunks of mascara are evident on my fingertips, though there are a few specks, which I don’t mind because that means the mascara is still on pretty firmly.
It’s very easy to clean off, presuming you use a good eye makeup remover. I use an Avon one, and though this part has a lot to do with the remover itself, I’ve had instances where my mascara is very stubborn and no matter how much I clean, I have baby panda eyes in the morning. No such case with One by One. Though it stays on really well throughout the day, when it’s time to say goodnight it just disappears!
The RRP of Maybelline One by One is £6.49 but I bought mine at the weekend from Superdrug on a £1.50 discount offer, so I paid £4.99. I’m not sure how long this promotion lasts but it may be worth checking out as £1.50 is quite a saving. However, I still wouldn’t mind paying £6.49 for this as mascara always lasts a good few months (I know you’re supposed to change it regularly but I’m sure I don’t do it enough!) and One by One is definitely a good product to have.
So all in all, I’m very pleased with this mascara. I’ve been a Maybelline Great Lash convert since it first came out in the UK, and at that time was convinced it was the best mascara I’d tried. Not that there’s anything wrong with Great Lash (it’s an award-winning number one seller in America I think, and here too probably) but One by One does go that little bit further.
The wand makes it easier to apply, the mini brush means no excess clods, the mascara itself applies very well without sticking or clumping, lasts well all day and comes off easily at night. A staple part of my make-up bag henceforth!

PS) For some reason, the orange bar at the top for 'Ease of Application' will only go to three stars, even though I've rated it the best. Ignore the bar - I'd give it 5 stars for application.
Advantages: It's seperates lashes, gives a lengthened look, it gives a more awake look to tired eyes and it goes on a treat. Disadvantages: The price may put some people off so just think of it as around 11p per application and tell yourself your worth it :O)
...trying out new products and Maybelline products are always welcome in my makeup bag. I’ve usually buy Maybelline Full ‘n’ Soft waterproof mascara but as usual with me, advertising works and I wanted to try the new One by One mascara.
I must say I didn’t buy a Maybelline mascara last time and regretted it, instead I bought L’O’Real Lash Arcitect and was very disappointed indeed, it was and is the worst mascara I have ever used and it cost me nearly ... ...You get a free Maybelline makeup bag if you get this product from www.wellbeing.com (Boots) so hurry, hurry, it’s only available while stocks last.
I hope I have convinced you that this is an excellent product that I would say would be a welcome addition to any makeup bag and it’s nearly Christmas to so it would make a great gift too.

Advantages: Easy to apply, cheaper than other brands, the mini brush works wonders Disadvantages: Gave the horrible panda look after a while
...about this mascara that they Maybelline couldn't possibly fit it all on the tube so they've decided to present it slightly differently to other mascaras and attach it to a piece of cardboard by way of a plastic pod which holds the mascara tube in place. So what does all the writing on the back tell you? Erm... well, not a lot really. It does give an ingredients list so if you've got sensitive eyes or a known allergy to any ingredients used in mascaras ... ...is ok for contact lens wearers (or should that be users?) and is also hypoallergenic, although as mascara is worn so close the eye I believe most brands are so this seems a bit of a pointless statement. Anything to make THEIR brand stand out from the rest, eh?
The back also explains about Maybelline's 'new formula and brush combination' which is basically a smaller than average brush that claims to reach every single eyelash even the tiny thin ones ...

Advantages: Lovely Luscious Lashes Disadvantages: The price, but other than that nothing!!
Today i am going to write an Opinion on my most favourite of mascaras... Lash Discovery One By One made by Maybeline New York.
I have been using mascaras now since i was about the age of 15 i am now almost 23,so that's what?... Almost 8 years. In that time you can imagine how many mascaras i have tried,Yes!! the answer... LOTS!!
It has taken me all that time to find my favourite and this is the one. I would recommend this mascara to anyone needing ... ...it a try anyway!
I like to use the dark brown one even though when it's on you can't really tell the difference between brown or black. It's got a tiny mini brush for an easier application and it covers every lash and i mean every lash even the little tiny one's right in the corner of your eyes. This mascara doesn't clump if used correctly (i will explain). Most of all it makes your lashes more fuller and alot lengthier.
Try it you'll like it!!!!!!!!!

Advantages: Thin brush, not too expensive, is good as a basic mascara Disadvantages: Doesn't live up to the claims, clumps eyelashes
...poker-straight thin eyelashes. I've tried Maybelline before, but they were no better. I was flicking through a magazine though, and stopped dead on a dazzling advert. Josie Maran, the model for Maybelline, had amazingly long, curly, thick lashes - the exact opposite to mine! I'm very gullible like that - I read in a magazine that a celebrity uses Carmex, and the next day I'll have it. A gorgeous dewy-skinned model advertises a foundation I don't ... ...disappointment. I think Maybelline have just put out a mascara exactly the same to all the others but with a smaller brush!
If you want a basic everyday mascara, and you already have thick curly eyelashes, then by all means, go for it, but if not, save your money! ...

Advantages: great to reach corners Disadvantages: doesn't really do much
LASH DISCOVERY (one by one) Maybelline
I bought this because it promised to separate my lashes.
PRICE
I bought this at clockwork for around £5 and I feel it is quite reasonable.
PACKAGING
The packaging is mediocre. It is blue-green, silver and grey and not really attractive. USING IT
I used it as soon as I got home and I didn't use and eyelash curler. I opened the top and revealed the rather small and tiny brush; I assumed this was meant to ... ...small/not full grown lashes. I ran downstairs to a well lit area so I can have a good look at my eyes when applying it.
In my opinion, it didn't make much difference, my lashes were separated but I could have EASILY gotten the same effect with an eyelash brush and it wouldn't have cost me as much. One plus side to this brush it that I can reach the back of my lashes with them and also the outer corners and the little baby lashes.
It is best combined ...

Advantages: No smudging. Easy to remove Disadvantages: Quite pricey
It was time to buy a new mascara ready to flutter my eyelashes at the walls, and, having no particular loyalty to any particular brand, I bought this onebyMaybelline. I have used Maybellinemascaras before, and especially like the double ended ones-white on one brush and the black mascara on the other brush, so this looked a grand idea!!
This mascara promises that it will add 50% more volume and extra length. So, with intense volume and length added to my eyelashes, I was expecting to have that false eyelash/Betty Boop look, especially when it states that you can look shamelessly over the top in two easy steps?more is most definitely more as regards eyelashes.
**How does it DO that?**
The mascara can do all this (and maybe make a cup of tea!!) because it has an advanced micro fibre base cat and top coat. Add to this the fact ...
Advantages: very few, I'm afraid. Disadvantages: tiny tube, doesn't curl, might as well buy great lash.
hard and weighed down. I needed a few coats to build up a dramatic effect.
It also takes a fair while to dry, so I was standing like a stunned deer for a couple of minutes in fear of blinking black on my browbone.
It did last all day, didn't seem to smudge, but there were a couple of flakes on my cheeks. I didn't have much chance to test if it really was waterproof, but I'm guessing it probably is. It removed fairly easily with make-up remover, but I obviously didn't remove it well enough, as I woke up the next morning with smudgy circles under my eyes.
With the quality of other maybellinemascaras like Great Lash, Full 'n' Soft and Discovery one-by-one, I was expecting something special with this. What I got was something very average. Though it stayed on and didn't smudge, it didn't deliver it's promise to curl lashes and give ...
