I was never really keen about Maybelline products for the reason that they concentrate in manufacturing products aimed at light skinned people (white people). It's only recent when they decided to promote their production system in producing products that can be used by everyone including dark people (black people). Moreover, even when I noted this change I was still not interested. However, I just had to give them a chance, as I might be missing out on their new make-up products. I therefore decided to try out their foundation (Maybelline wonder finish).
Maybelline wonder finish is a foundation for the face which will turn from liquid to powder. Its job is to make your face look smooth and none-greasy as it does not have any oil in the ingredients. Not having oil in the ingredients suggests that you won't get any spots whilst using this product for the reason that oil is the main element in the world that causes natural spots. The foundation does have SPF15 and Vitamin E that helps to protect against UVB rays.
Shades
Like I said before, Maybelline only used to specialize in six shades (ivory, nude, fawn, golden, sand and cameo), which none of them was for my skin colour. However, now they do have the caramel shade and the dark shade which is the darkest of them all and is possibly suited for black people. I actually bought the caramel shade as I'm not too black. If you don't know which shade is going to suite your skin, you can either try it out on the spot (if the shop has a tester) or
you can always look on the colour circle which is on the front of the container. Each shade has a different colour circle in front of it which makes it easy to see if the shades are too light or too dark. This feature is rather helpful to those who might be in a hurry. Just like many foundations, you can also identify the Maybelline wonder finish by a number e.g. the caramel shade is also known as number 2.
Applying the wonder finish foundation is not too easy, for the reason that it is soo runny. The company suggest that you use your fingers to apply the foundation. I used my fingers to apply the foundation, but found it very silly. Because the foundation is runny, you can only put a little drop on your fingers, and the little drop hardly cover a descent area on your face. However, if you find using your fingers to be very annoying, I suggest you use a cotton bud which makes it all easier. When applying the foundation just rub it evenly onto your face and wait a few seconds for it to set. It does not really take long to dry, when I apply the foundation it takes less than 30seconds to dry up. Moreover before you use the foundation, you have to shake it to get the best results.
Price & Place
To be honest the main reason that pushed me into buying this wonder finish foundation was the price. I was browsing in TJ Hughes one day, and I saw the foundation (30ml) being sold at £3. I must say this was rather cheap as you would normally see this foundation on boots shelves for £5.99. So I knew this was the only chance for me to try it out and if I liked it, I wouldn't have minded paying the full market price (£5.99). I would say for £3 it wasn't really worth it because the product is rather annoying and doesn't stay for a long period. A small amount of it is provided in a 30ml bottle. It does not last long at all, for the reason that if you are out for about eight hours you might have to apply the wonder finish twice. This is exactly what I had to do and I basically had to give up on the product after the first time of buying it.
Overall the price for this product does vary and if you are lucky like I was you might find the product half the market price. I've mainly noted the product mainly in boots, therefore if you might want to try it out just visit boots. It might be a good idea to visit boots because they do have some tester samples for you to try out the foundation before you buy, so that you wouldn't be as disappointed as you could be if you got home and it didn't suit you. Paying £5.99 for this product would be a loss, I paid £3 and I still feel like I've wasted a lot of my money. If someone gave me this foundation for free I would say 'no'!
Me and the Product
This product does not really work for me; although the caramel shade does blend perfectly with my skin. However when it dries up and turns into powder it kind of look obvious that you are wearing some form of foundation and my skin looks rather dry. I did thought that I put a lot of it and tried to put less, but it came off within two hours. I think I figured out one of the reason why the foundation does not last long. It is because it rubs of easily as it is not thick enough to stay on your skin. However, when I apply the foundation, my skin does stay soft to the touch but my face feels rather dry.
It is absolutely best that you shake the wonder finish foundation before using it. I have noted a huge difference on my face when I apply the foundation without shaking it, the wonder finish hardly holds onto your face and the shade colour fades a little bit making my face look like a ghost, which looked rather hilarious but disappointing. If you shake the bottle before use the wonder finish looks all natural and works properly. However, there is a disappointment in shaking the wonder finish bottle. Whenever I shake the bottle the foundation always spill even when the container is closed. When you open the container after shaking the foundation it looks all messed up, which irritates me. It is not only the messed up cap that annoys me, it is also the foundation itself. I did get into my eye one day and I almost cried, the feeling of the foundation in your eyes is terrible, therefore make sure it's far from your eyes when applying the foundation to your face. I must say unlike the Revlon colorstay make-up the Maybelline wonder finish does actually smell rather nice, although it is fragrance free. The smell of the wonder finish foundation is rather sweet and I could smell it all day. The foundation does come off fabrics if you happen to drop some by mistake.
Nevertheless, the wonder finish foundation does come in a diminutive thick plastic bottle that is easy to store in your handbag. I do like the container as I don't have to worry regarding it breaking. Removing the foundation is very easy, if you keep wearing it for a few hours it will possibly remove itself, however it comes off more rapidly if you use a damp towel or make-up remover. Whenever I remove the foundation, I feel free from that feeling of dryness and my skin stay soft, which is rather superior.
I and the product don't really get along and I have now stared using the Revlon colorstay make-up again before the wonder finish had finished. I just had to leave the wonder finish wondering when it's going to finish, I'll probably chuck it in the bin or under my bed in case I run out of foundation or powder one day.
Recommendation
Overall I wouldn't really recommend the product for the reason that it doesn't last long suggesting that you have to buy the foundation very frequently. I have only used mine for five days and it's almost gone. The foundation doesn't stay on your face for possibly more than five hours; therefore if you are out for a long time you might have to apply the foundation twice which adds to the foundation finishing quicker. The foundation is very runny and a little bit annoying to apply if you use your fingers (like it's recommended).
This wonder finish foundation turns from liquid to powder. However if you really want powder that much, I'd suggest you buy the real powder because this foundation is a little bit disappointing. You could still try it out for the first time if you are really keen in finding out if it will work for you or not.
Note
---It is best you shake the bottle before use, but be careful how you shake the bottle for the reason that it spills, even when the cap is sealed tight.
---Make sure the foundation doesn't touch your eyes because it gives this annoying irritation.
--- There is no need to add powder on top of the foundation for the reason that it works as a powder.
---Getting hold of the foundation isn't a problem, it can be bought from many shops such as superdrug, boots, TJ hughes etc.
---for more information about the Maybelline wonder finish foundation just have a click around their website www.maybelline.co.uk, on the site you can also view their other product ranges. I also heard that if you join their website club you get some samples on some of their products.
