I own the original MKI MX-5 from 1996, although I know many people who own the MKII, and are looking to buy the MK III due the end of 2005.
The car has changed little over the years mainly because they got the design right from the begining. A simple two seater, engine in the front boot in the back (with enough room for provisions for two for a long weekend away).
The drive is incredible, the car well balanced, drives well in the city and on the motorway but really comes into its own on the twisting country lanes (Cotwolds are my favorite). Of all the current two seaters the MX-5 is still a winner, while the Lotus has greater handling and the MG the better branding (well, of yesteryear at least) the Mazda is the all rounder.
The car is only the begining, behind the MX-5 name is the MX-5 family, the owners club, a friendly bunch full of helpfull tips and advice. And always a wave to a fellow 5 driver!
