If your brave enough to want to buy one of these wankel marvels then don't make the same mistake i did and buy a car with 60,000miles or more unless the engine has blown ,Yes thats right you would be far better off buying 1 with higher mileage and worn rotor tips "the only thing which will go is the rotor tips" ,all rotory engine's come with a life span and on the FD3S "3rd gen RX-7" they generally go between 60-70,000 miles i paid 5k for mine which was 1993 Type RS import with 63,000 miles .she drove and went like a dream i knew about the life span of the engine and what to look for rough starting ,bad idling etc but everything was perfect ands thats how i learnt the hard way sometimes they just go instantly while your driving no tell tale signs just clunk and your engine will stall and then you need a new engine basically. There are quite a few of these imports on the market with similar mileage but my advise is to stay well clear but don't let me change your mind with my bad experience these cars are a design classic and the most rewarding drive you will get for this sort of money not to mention the fastest thing this side of a lamborgini. If you can find 1 with a blown engine and there are a few out there you can expect to pay around 2k for 1 but then have a phone round the rx-7 specalists and this where it all starts to make sense you can get a new rotor housing "engine" for around 2-3k this will include a 2-3 year warranty which is the deal maker for me for aronud 5000 pounds you will have a car with a brand new warranty'd engine everything else on the car from the gearbox, running gear right down to the electronics is built in true mazda fashion made to last and should not cause you any problems once you have that piece of mind that your engine won't break until that 60,000mile mark trust me nothing else goes wrong you can enjoy one of the sports benchmark cars of this century. A True Mazda Marvel, all ratings which i have made on the car are based around a new warranted engine being installed and what the car is a sports car

Good review, points out the major issues with the RX7 i.e. engine rebuild/replacement costs and fuel consumption, would have been nice to have some consumption figures though...
