Firstly, the model I used was a gas motor, and it was NOT the most economical vehicle I have ever driven. Granted, it was a ... ...usage. In the mud, the Mazda Tribute was a very lazy mover and was stuck more than once.
Of course, the tribute was not designed for such abuse. It was more designed for gravel roads and places where there was once a road.
Inside, the Tribute was very spacious, with leg room to spare and enough storage space to hold a very generous tailgate party (trust me, I did). Features on the models I drover were fairly standard ... more

Firstly, the model I used was a gas motor, and it was NOT the most economical vehicle I have ever driven. Granted, it was a very cool and fun vehicle to drive - but just make sure to stay away from anything other than lawns - the low ride height and its lack of design make it a poor choice for off road usage. In the mud, the Mazda Tribute was a very lazy mover and was stuck more than once.

When it came to safety issues, this vehicle was rather well-equipped, although I am not sure that they catered for roll-overs, since this vehicle has a somewhat high centre of gravity.
Ride quality was excellent, with the ride reminding me of a sedan rather than an off-roader - in fact, it was one of our preferred vehicles when we had to go into town.
Long story shortened: be very careful, since the turn signals and the windshield wipers are on the wrong sides of the steering wheel, and stay on the road - this was designed for the drive down to the beach (and that four wheel drive is not going to help much in the sand).

The Mazda Tribute is a compact SUV known for its sporty handling, carlike ride, surprising V6 performance and rewarding value for the money. It's always been more a car masquerading as a truck than vice-versa and feels nimble and sure-footed as long as you stick to the pavement. As such, our editors have found the first-generation Mazda Tribute to be one of the best small SUVs on the market.
