Advantages: Rates sites as safe (green), potentially unsafe (yellow, and red) before you click on them Disadvantages: Can only protect 1 PC
When I bought my laptop it came with a 60-day trial version of McAfeeVirusScan Plus 2009. Since I use limewire, my laptop is very vulnerable to malicious mp3 files that I download from the site. Good thing, I activated my trial version the very first time I used my laptop. Whenever I downloaded those malicious files that contain trojans, McAfee kicks it out right away.
My husband used to use AVG free antivirus in his pc but he got dissatisfied with it so he decided to purchase McAfeeVirusScan Plus 2009 3 User which cost a little bit more than the 1 user version.
Also if you register your product online you get free updates for one year.

Apart from a curious name, this is a top rank anti-virus software suite for your PC.
I have been using anti-virus software for more years than I can remember (old age does that) and have used most major ones. I have been using McAfee for the last 5 years or so over 3 different versions.
Virus protection has become much more serious these days as we rely more on PCs and the internet and you *must* have some sort of anti-virus software on your PC.
*TIP* never connect to the internet without this sort of software installed and active.
Currently I protect my home PCs with this product (and we use the same vendor at work too). I do not use the firewall or spam products as I have other provision for these.

company's server in the office, as I work from home, so I need to be free of all threats and keep everything up to date, so I don't compromise their system!
I was hugely disappointed when I suspected I had a problem, as my system was 'playing up' and odd things were happening - websites started to open up on my screen without my intervention, so I did an online check with Kaspersky. It found three worms on my system that were active, so I carried out a virus update, disconnected from the internet and did a full scan of my system - McAfee again not picking them up. It was set to scan all files, hidden included. I then scanned again with Kasperky online, and deleted the threats.
I also don't personally like the way the products bundled with this package all work together (Firewall, Anti Virus, Anti Spam, Privacy Control, Shredder etc ...

Manufacturer's product description
The threat from viruses changes constantly. More than 300 new viruses are discovered each month. To make matters worse, today's most prevalent threats are worms and mass-mailing viruses that can spread around the world in a matter of hours. Since the virus threat is actively shifting, shouldn't your defense strategy be active too? To effectively combat the ever-changing virus threat, you should establish an active anti-virus policy. Most companies today understand the need for virus protection. Many have established formal policies defining what form that protection should take, and how it should be used. But very few take the necessary next step to make their policies active. Making a policy active isn't as simple as just changing it occasionally. Before you can know what changes should be made to a policy, you need to know which parts of it are working and which are not. Is the virus protection software on all computers being updated according to policy? Are the configuration settings dictated by the policy still applied? Is virus protection even installed on all machines? To know, you need a tool like McAfee's ePolicy Orchestrator. The heart and soul of the McAfee Active VirusScan Suite, ePolicy Orchestrator can help anyone answer all these questions - it will enable administrators to intelligently adjust their policies to the changing virus threat. Once you know where the weak points in your defense are, you can take action to correct the problems. Having world-class virus detection and cleaning software on all desktops and file servers on the network is a good start. The McAfee Active VirusScan Suite offers industry-leading protection for each of these two essential network tiers. Once all the desktops and file servers on the network are fully protected, ePolicy Orchestrator's policy enforcement features can ensure they stay that way. ePolicy Orchestrator also enables administrators to make configuration changes to handle new virus types or changes in virus prevalence trends. At the end of the day, all the manageability and policy enforcement in the world won't stop a virus, if the anti-virus solution can't detect and clean viruses. All the McAfee Active VirusScan Suite components use the award-winning McAfee virus-scanning engine. With unique double heuristic scanning technology, generic variant detection capabilities, and industry-leading compressed file handling, the McAfee engine is one of the best money can buy.
