A BIG MAC

Advantages: Good for bargains, plenty of choice
Disadvantages: It's shopping

...indoor shopping goes) is the McARTHUR GLEN Outlet Mall. This is Scotland's largest designer outlet with over 100 shops, a cinema, restaurants and bars all under one glass roof.

MacGlen is a short walk of a few hundred metres from the Almonvale centre, in fact they're only separated by a car park which is the site for the next phase of Almondvale so that eventually, both malls will link up.

You can't miss MacGlen. It's ...
...the main spinal road (A899) and driving straight along. You can actually see MacGlen from the spinal road anyway, its big glass dome is visible from a good distance away. Parking's not a problem either, with plenty of ground level parking all around and a massive multi-storey at the far end.

MacGlen is an outlet mall and therefore isn't home to things like supermarkets etc. What it does have, is a multitude of designer-name ... more

Quality Shopping

Advantages: All the shops in one place
Disadvantages: the prices

Heading west on the M8 motorway from Edinburgh and towards Glasgow, you will at about 12 miles find Livingston and Junction 3. Once off the motorway simply follow the main road until you cross the river Almond ( about 2.5 miles ) here you veer left and follow the sign to MacArthur Glen and indeed Livingston Shopping Centre ( Almondvale ). There is abundant parking, but should you fail to find a space in the three main parking areas, about 500 yards ...
...has exits leading straight to MacArthur Glen. Now I'm not a great fan of outlet like this since I do believe you get ripped off something rotten, but each to their own, and to be fair there is plenty of choice here should you which to purchase that so called bargain. You can also if you wish have a bite to eat in the many eateries located on the upstairs part of the complex, Harry Ramsdens, Pizza Hut, and MacDonalds to name but three. Here you will ...

A shoppers paradise

Advantages: All shops under one roof at discounted prices
Disadvantages: Car parking can be bad at weekends

I discivered McArthur Glen had opened in West Lothian in December 2000. It is a shopping centre with brand name shops at dicounted prices. Since then I have been popping in there on a monthly basis and as time goes by more and more shops have been opening! There are the Brand names like Gap, Marks and Spencers, Clarks shoes, Early Learning Centre, Prices Candles, Whittards, Calvin Klein jeans and more recently Burberry! McArthur Glen is situated ...
...it is better to visit McArthur Glen either first thing in the morning at weekends or any week day outwith school holidays and school lunchtimes! It gets very busy with the local high school going there for lunch! Now that I go there regularly I find I know exactly where I am going and shopping takes half the time now! Coming to Scotland for a visit, you must take the opportunity to visit this shopping centre as part of your holiday as it will have ...
