Advantages Quck, easy
Disadvantages tasteless
Looking in my local Morisson’s for some inspiration for my kid’s tea, I wasn’t in the mood to cook them something, wanted something quick and satisfying. As my 2 love pizza I noticed McCain have brought out some pizza fingers, great I thought, easy especially since they wouldn’t need cutting, and no fighting over who got the biggest piece. Good old finger food. No dirty knifes and forks…anything for an easy life.
These come in a red box with the trademark McCain’s logo in the corner with the name of the product made up of pizza fingers splashed across the front, On the right hand side they have a lovely picture of 2 fingers lying on a bed of chips and peas. Sounds and looks good at the minute. On the back of the box there is a single finger pictured in the middle with arrows explaining the product. E.G. light crispy base, real melted cheese, and Tasty tomato sauce with flavour right to the edge. There are 10 fingers in a pack, great 5 each no arguing. Plus on offer at Morisson’s for £1.29 plus get a bag of wedges free, what more could a mother ask.So I’ve read the instructions:
OVEN…Place fingers on a pre-heated oiled baking tray in the middle shelf of a pre-heated oven at 180C/ Gas mark 5 for 10 – 12 mins, until cheese is golden brown.OR
GRILL…. Remove rack from grill pan and place fingers directly on to the grill pan. Cook for 8 – 10 mins under a moderate heat until cheese is golden. The instructions are really easy, so handy in case hubby has to feed them one day.
**THE FINGERS**Once I opened the box and lay them out on the tray there was indeed 10 fingers. 10 sorrowful white dried up pizza fingers, It took me a while to find the topping, as I didn’t want to cook them the wrong way round. So after close inspection I found a thin very thin layer of red sauce and what looked like cheese topping.
They didn’t look very appetising and smelt of nothing; considering they were frozen I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Let the kids decide.
**PING**
That’s the oven clock going.lolWell they smelt ok, there was a better covering of cheese as it was oozing over the side of the fingers, and the sauce looked a lot healthier. The bread still looked anaemic but crispy to touch.
Kids test time.Amazed they were a success; both kids loved them and said they would eat them again. My youngest is getting really fussy what she eats and she approved. PHEW.
In old mum tradition..I nicked 1 of there plate, well don’t all mums do that?
**MUMS OPINION**As finger food goes these were ok, apart from the cheese trying to escape, they held together well when bit into. The base was crispy, the sauce was mild and scarce, but the cheese was a surprise as there was more than what I expected. In my opinion there was too much base as it took over the whole taste, all I could taste was bread.
I might buy these again if I am pushed for something quick, these would be ideal for a kiddies party, but not as a meal..
