The nearest branch of Mc'Colls to me is about a mile up the road in Halewood, Liverpool. As you probably know The Company owns Martin - the everyday store as well. The shop is a great little one for milk, bread and things that you would fill your larder with and even sometimes they stock stocking fillers nearer Christmas time.
The shops are relatively small compared to the likes of netto and Lidl but they are full to the ceiling with products. My Local one which is called MArtin is a great shop for stationary and being so near to my school attracts loads of the school kids a lunchtime and before school starts.
The prices though are not so brilliant as they seem to charge really high prices for everything. In a local stationary shop a tip ex is 49p per bottle but here In Mc'Colls they have to go and sell it for £1.29. The ready meals and lunches like sandwiches are sometimes cheap but you have to grab 'em the day before they go out of date as they are reduced to 49p or around that. I really think these prices are unjust because no other shop like it sells the products for these really bad prices. The most expensive thing I bought is a bottle of Milk for 99p which I can tell you is not below the average price.
Generally though, the range of products is quite terrific and it is a handy shop for locals, yet I believe that a lack of customers is imminent due to the really high prices of the products.
The shop and the staff are really well presented and the manager knows everyone who visits. Each time I walk in its Hiya Mark which I believe is a great way to maintain customer confidence.
