I am a floor manager in a Coventry Store. I had never done work like this before I started at McDonalds 3 years ago. I had a small child who had just started school and I wanted a job that was flexible enough to fit in around him.
There are not many jobs like this around. I applied to McDonalds and was subsequently employed. I worked to fit in with his school hours at first, taking all the school holidays off. You just write in the request book when you want time off.In time, I realised that I could work a few hours in the evenings or at weekends if I wanted some extra cash, the hours are just about limitless at McDonalds.
I became training squad and a few weeks later started my managers course. It seemed strange after all this time and studying again. It was worth it though as I passed. The pay is not the best at McDonalds but it is one of the few places that gives students the flexibility to fit around their studies and also for Mothers like me. We have some employees that just work in the university holidays and the odd weekend shift.
When you go up a grade the money is not briliant for the levels of responsibility that you are given.McDonalds is one of those places that is useful if you just want some extra cash but not a career, but if you want a career then you will find one.
One of the hardest things I find in the job sometimes is the attitude of some of the young school leavers. You have to keep reminding yourself that they are young and this is their first job since leaving school, they are on a steep learning curve.

It sounds like the job i have been looking for sinse school and its been 3 years. Alot of people talk down about the people at Mcdonalds but i dont see why, you are ALL hard working people and just trying to earn a living, plus like you say it can be easy to move up the ladder, a couple of years in managment there, is a step towards the £52k a year we all want. Great review!!! p.s if there are any jobs going give me a bell please, i am in Coventry myself! lol
