Have you ever gone through a phase where you find yourself munching biscuits everyday? Or maybe you find you cannot go through a day without that pack of crisps? I am going through that phase right now. Not with crisps, mind you, but my weakness is for that pack of McVities digestives. "Why, of all failures, does it have to be those biscuits? They look so plain and wholesome?" You ask?
"Well," I replied, "I just love them." The packaging, I admit, is not your fancy all colourful and all dancing shining wrapper that cries out to you while you walk past it in the shopping aisle. Bright, yes, in reddish orange with the words "McV" for McVities, The Original Digestive in large bold words. While unwrapping them, a couple will fall out, in their eager to leave their neighbours in the tightly rolled packed of biscuits. They do not look all that appetizing. Round and brown, with the words "McVitie's, the original" branded on the surface of it, not as scrumptious looking as say, George Clooney.
Take a bite, and be prepared to be assaulted in that first mouthful. The crunch, while not as hard as a plain Jacob's cracker, is not as soft as soggy toast. Somewhat in between the two extremes, McVities have found that ultimate crunch that is not too hard nor too soft, but just nice to let you know that, you have taken your first bite. The biscuit, falls apart slowly in your mouth and that hunger that you have been feeling suddenly dissolves into ... nothing. All is forgotten while the rest of your senses catches up with you while you ready yourself for the next bite. To fix an afternoon tea break hunger, I need only have two of these. I have also found these are great for long drives, on train rides and even picnics. My experiment (yes, not experience) with these have shown too, that if stored properly, they still retain their taste. These travel well too, I have taken them on trips overseas, but sadly, a pack will not last the entire trip. On trips, I tie a bag around the pack and at home, I house them in a box. The only downside of these biscuits is that they crumble easier if knocked around a bit. This usually happens on my travel and I end up losing a couple of biscuits into crumbs.
Calories-wise, a ration of 2 per day is not going to make me balloon. Each biscuit will give me 73 calories or 3.2 grams of fat. I can handle that. Available everywhere in the UK and in Ireland, but sadly, not in the USA. On my last trip, I had a bagful of McVitie's for friends of mine who are missing them desperately. They come in a variety of package sizes, I tend to buy the big value pack containing 2 400 grams packs of biscuits. From Tesco, that will set me back 85p while a 250 gram pack costs 44 p and a 500 gram pack will costs 54p.
Verdict ======= They starve off my hunger in the afternoons, a couple to accompany my cup of tea. Although I am strong enough to resist eating the entire pack at one go, I still need my daily dosage. Personally, I consider these a healthier option to a pack of crisps.

They're only healthier than a packet of crisps if you only have 1..which face it, isn't likely. Yum xx
