McVitie's Jamaica Ginger Cake

I popped into my local grocers at lunchtime with my daughter to get some bread for lunch and right alongside the bread I spied a McVities Jamaica Ginger Cake. I hadn't seen one of those for years. My mum used to buy these for us when we were kids. My daughter managed to persuade me to buy one, although she didn't exactly have to twist my arm very hard! The cake is baked in a paper case and sealed in a brown plastic bag. Jamaica Ginger Cake I thought that I would review this cake as we had it after tea and it was gorgeous. Surprise, surprise it was on offer when I bought it. ~~~What's it like?~~~ Well, like the picture above it comes in a brown packet and carries the logo that it has been the best for over 50 years. It states that it is 'Deliciously Moist Cake'. When you open the packet it smells gorgeous and it is is a loaf like shape placed in a paper liner. Being of West Indian descent, Sunday desserts during my childhood usually consisted of ginger cake and custard, and our brand of choice to this day is McVities Ginger Cake. Nowadays we don’t pick this product up as often as we could because it’s not particularly healthy. However whenever I do a cheeky Tesco shop I see this on the shelf buy it every now and again! Mcvites Jamaica ginger cake How I came by it Well I paid a visit to my local Co-operative to see if they had any bread in, plus they had a promontial offer on some food I wanted- mainly cheese (the husband is a mouse in disguise, he is planning a mouse invasion so don’t let him near your cheese). McVities Jamaica Ginger Cake..... McVities have been making and selling this Jamaica Ginger cake for as long as I can remember and it is something that I pretty much grew up with. Mum used to get it for the family to have as a treat with a nice cup of tea(or milkshake in my case) to have at elevenses. I still occasionally buy the cake and it is the same now as I remember it being when I was little although it does seem to have shrunk in size somewhat!
