Jaffa Cakes, however, are light, soft and spongey. The base consists of a light sponge cake and the top is an orangey jelly covered in a thin layer of plain chocolate.
Jaffa Cakes are made by McVities. In standard packs there are 12 individual 'cakes', and in smaller packs, 6.
PRODUCT PACKAGE
Boxes of Mcvities Jaffa Cakes are bright and appealing. The lettering of 'Jaffa Cakes' is like orange peel and stands out against a dark blue background. The box is very easy to open thanks to a tear away strip at one end of the box. Inside, the biscuits are wrapped to ensure lasting freshness.
SMELL AND TASTE
On opening the wrapper, you are greeted by the smell of dark chocolate. As you take a bite, you can taste the chocolate and the sponge immediately. The sponge melts in your mouth and gives way to a fruity aftertaste provided by the orange centre. The sweetness of the orange jelly contrasts well with the dark chocolate - a very good combination, in my opinion.
The nutritional information per cake is as follows:
Energy 201kJ (48 kcal) Protein 0.5g Carbohydrate 9.2g Fat 1.0g Fibre 0.2g Sodium (trace)
Jaffa Cakes are also suitable for vegetarians. I'm not sure if they're suitable for sufferers of nut allergies, however.
VALUE FOR MONEY
You can expect to pay about £0.65 for a pack of 12 Jaffa Cakes. This works out at about 5p per 'cake'. Personally, I find this a little pricey, but given that Jaffa Cakes are no ordinary biscuit, it is perhaps partly justified.
CONCLUSION
Overall, Jaffa Cakes definitely get the thumbs up from me. They are a 'biscuit' of contrasts: the soft sponge against the sweet, orange filling and thin layer of plain chocolate makes for an unusual, yet delicious snack. I would highly recommend them with a nice cup of tea or coffee, but BEWARE: they are HIGHLY ADDICTIVE, and you may find yourself finishing off the whole packet in a very short amount of time!
Advantages: great for kids Disadvantages: mom's like me might steal them
My youngest daughter is 3 years old and whenever I take her food shopping she always asks for McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes. The ones I buy her are the mini variety. These come in packs of 6 lunch pods and cost around £1.35.
Mini Jaffa Cakes are ideal for my daughter as each pod contains 6 mini Jaffa cakes. These plastic orange pods are joined together and folded into an oblong shape and held together by a outer cover of cardboard. When the cardboard ... ...they are easy to separate along the serrated edges. Once one pod has been pulled off there is a thin plastic lid which can be lifted up at one end and easily pulled off revealing 6 small dark chocolate, sponge cakes that are more like biscuits than cakes. The packaging has the McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes logo in orange writing on it with a blue background, but it also clearly states that these are the mini variety.
Each Jaffa cake has a thin layer ...

Advantages: Portion control for the kids Disadvantages: None
We love Jaffa Cakes in our family. All of us. My hubby and I enjoyed them but then my little girl tried them somewhere when she was about 2 years old and we all ended up addicted. Having recently visited my sister who adores her niece she of course stocked up on her fav's. And she bought the little mini ones because she knows I like the idea of portion control.
***Packaging***
McVities Jaffa Cakes are all the same colour and this one is no exception. ... ...lid and orange writing. Six pods are sold together and wrapped in similar coloured cardboard. The little pods are sturdy and i feel this is important so that the lovely little cakes inside are not damaged. One problem for little ones though is that they can be difficult to open. But then again this can also be an advantage.
***The Smell and Taste Test***
When you pop open the little pod there is a nice smell of dark chocolate, not too strong though. ...

Advantages: Handy snack size, great for packed lunches Disadvantages: Moreish,
Recently I started giving my daughter packed lunches for school, mainly as a way of keeping tabs on what she was eating. Normally she has a biscuit of some sort in her lunchbox so when I came across McVities Mini Jaffa cakes last week, I had to buy them. Found alongside the biscuit display in most supermarkets and not among cakes as it's name would suggest, Mini Jaffa Cakes come in a pack of 6 orange pod containers. Like the original Jaffa Cakes the mini variety have a soft sponge bottom wtth a delicious orange jelly filling topped with dark chocolate. The sweet, tangy orange and bitter dark chocolate compliment each other making these cakes very moreish indeed.
Widely available in most supermarkets, Mini Jaffa Cakes are quite reasonably priced. ...

Advantages: handy size for packed lunches Disadvantages: not enough for adults
Made by McVities Jaffa cakes have always been a firm favourite in our house. Since the standard boxes of jaffas which we always used to have McVities have progressed to make the wonderful Mini Jaffa Cakes. They are exactly the same as standard jaffas but are wrapped in little individual orange cartons, individually sealed meaning they are ideal for lunch boxes, snacks and picnics. These are easily recognisable and are located with other jaffa cakes ... ...find that most smaller shops only stock normal boxes of jaffas rather than the mini packs. If you don't know what the packaging is like, it is mainly orange with a blue lid with 'mini jaffa cakes' written in big orange letters across the front.
Each little carton has a blue peel back lid and contains six mini jaffas.
On opening the carton the smell is there and smells of delicious orange. This really is the main smell, you can't really smell the ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "McVitie's Mini Jaffa Cakes"
I read and rated about 4-5 reviews on Jaffacakes here and on another site. I went to Sainsbury?s another day and I saw thatMcVitie?s JaffaCakes were on offer. A box (containing 6 mini rolls) was for 1 pound. I decided that I will try too, so I put it in my basket.
On the blue package it is said that it is more orangey. The letters of JaffaCakes looks like they were cut out of an orange peel. You can also see a picture of a mini roll on the wrapper. I waited for the moment we arrive home to open it.
There is a transparent tray and the mini rolls are packed individually. I opened one. It was covered with thick dark chocolate. Inside the chocolate is a sponge cake topped with orange jelly and then rolled up. For me the chocolate wasn?t delicious enough. Although I am a milk chocolate and white chocolate fan, I eat sometimes fine dark ...
Advantages: If you love swiss rolls, then this is a twist on normal ones Disadvantages: Not substantial enough, doesn't compare to Jaffa Cakes themselves
At lunchtime I needed something to eat before I could get to some real food, so I stopped off at a newsagents and a McVitie?s JaffaCakesMini Roll caught my eye, mainly because I?ve never seen them before and because I love JaffaCakes.
I took it to the counter and then nearly choked when the shopkeeper said ?60p please?. I nearly put it back and walked out, but thought I might as well try it this once. Apparently I was robbed, as I?ve looked online and you can get a 6-pack for just under £1 at Tescos, working out at about 17p each (hence my rating is based on this).
The bar comes in metallic shiny blue plastic wrapping with orange writing, and at the moment has a big yellow strip with ?NEW? emblazoned on it. It?s about 6 inches long. The mini roll is vegetarian (approved by the Vegetarian Society no less, as many McVities ...

cake orange gel like stuff. This tastes orangey and sweet. This cake did not last long enough for 3 or 4 bites. A bit unsubstantial .They are not really filling
These mini rolls are fine if you are a Jaffacake lover. They would be good as a treat in the lunch pack, or at a children's party.
Mcvities have really just found another way to package their jaffacake really. The cake part softer, not as crispy as in a jaffacake, this ones defiantly a cake not a biscuit.
Nutritionally well 119kcal per cake /383 per 100 g 3.6 g fat per cake 16 g of sugar per cake. (I really should not have eaten this cake too fattening for me.)
I noted these on sale at Tesco a packet for £1.25, 21 each roll, on offer at the moment 2 packs for £2.00
To be honest I am not a eat lover of jaffacakes so I will not go out of my way to but or eat ...
