Review of Aerospace, Civil & Mechanical Engineering by
philltowns
Advantages: Excellent lecturers and facilities, good connections with industry
Disadvantages: Uni location quite far from London Air Squadron
...Having just started my degree in Aerospace Systems Engineering at the University of Hertfordshire, I am starting to realise how good a decision I made when choosing universities. Not only does the universty have a large selection of excellent lecturers, but is also world-renowned for producing some of the best graduates around. This is helped by the fantastic facilities available to students studying in this faculty as well as the very strong connections with industry.
Most students studying aeronauticl type degrees are advised to join the Royal Aeronautical Society, and many apply to join the University of London Air Squadron where they will be trained as RAF pilots are.
For those wishing to beome a pilot, I would stongly recommend the Arospace Systems Engineering degree as this contains both the avionics AND mechanical side...

A Great Grounding for your Chosen Career
Review of Leeds University by
lesinge2k
Advantages: Cheap student accomodation, good degree, excellent night-life, excellent day-life
Disadvantages: Crime levels?
...I started at the University of Leeds in 1994, at the age of 18. From the moment I was dropped off I knew it was something special. The University Experience in itself is a life-changing thing, fending for yourself, and being away from home... I'm just glad I chose Leeds to do it at.
The degree I chose to do was Mechanical Engineering. This was a good course providing a full curriculum, accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. I now have a good job, earning a nice salary.
On the social side of things, Leeds is a great place to meet new people. There are plenty of students in the same situation as yourself, and it is a big city with plenty of clubs and pubs to frequent. The Union has many Social Clubs, one of which I was Vice President of for a year. If you visit the city in the day, there are a great deal of shops...

Building Services
Review of Building Services Engineering by
luleaexile
Advantages: Can be a very rewarding career
Disadvantages: Nae money!
...I am a building services engineer, currently employed in Glasgow.
My advice before you do this degree is to think very carefully about whether you want to enter this industry.
The industry can be fantastically rewarding; if you appreciate great buildings, there is a buzz out of making them work.
Pay is relatively poor though for the long hours, so you really gotta know you’d like it.
Basically, if you are >20yrs old and familiar with the industry and want to be a part; this is a good course to do.
If you are a school leaver; you can still join the industry if you do a mechanical or electrical degree but this way you don’t limit your choices so much. And if you are doing one of these courses, Strathclyde will be preferable if you got the grades.......
