Breast is best! So you're told almost from the minute you get pregnant so as a new mum who was returning to work quicker than most I thought I should buy myself a breast pump. There are dozens available to you and the decision can be tricky. Do you opt for a Manual or Electric pump? A Single or Double pump. After doing some research I quickly realised that a manual pump only really works if you plan to pump occasionally so I started looking for an electric one.

What do you get? Swing pump with built in belt clip One size fits all breast shield. (Other shields are available to order) One (5oz/150ml) bottle with cap Bottle stand Plug for mains power Neck strap Tubing Valve and 2 membranes Handy drawstring bag to keep it all in.
Not included are 4 AA batteries to allow you to use the pump when mains power isn't available.
How do you use it? I was surprised at how easy it was to put together. Before first use all all the parts that can come into contact with your breast milk should be washed and sterilised. To get the pump ready for action you connect the valve, membrane and breast shield together then screw it onto the bottle. Attach one end of the tube to the pump and the other end to the breast shield, place the breast shield over your nipple, press the power button and away you go. Medela use a two phase pumping action to enable to you get more out in less time. The first phase is the stimulation mode which mimics your baby's initial quick sucking to get your milk flowing. The second phase is the expression phase which is similar to the slower sucks your baby takes once their thirst is quenched. Both phases have an adjustable speed option to enable you to find the most comfortable speed for expressing. The stimulation phase lasts for two minutes before automatically switching to the expression phase, you can also manually switch to the expression phase when you're ready. The neck strap allows you to hang the pump around your neck or shoulder and the clip allows you to attach it to a belt which leaves you with at least one hand free.
How long does it take? Results vary but I find it takes me around 7-10 minutes to express one side.
Who's it best for? I'd recommend this pump to anyone who plans to express at least twice a day. It's comfortable, easy to use and very portable. .
Would I buy it again? Absolutely. The one drawback I've found is the noise. It's not the loudest pump on the market but you will be aware of it
Thanks for reading my review I hope you found it helpful. :)
