Know what you have been prescribed
Advantages: Easy to read, not a lot of medical terminology Disadvantages: a lot of separate sections could become confusing
I bought this book not so long ago because in September im starting my nursing course and I though it would be a good book to have on hand. It is a very informative read and it isnt too technical, which being a medical book surprised me. It goes through all the body's systems and different drugs for each system. It states the different types of drugs also (for example antibiotics, contraceptives, lipid lowering drugs etc). It also has an a-z of drugs ... ...is.
It then goes onto show you pictures of drugs and that section is in different parts, which are white drugs, coloured drugs, capsules and there are more. It shows you a picture of the drug and then underneath gives you the name and size of each (for example Temazepam 30mg). Then we go onto see the section where each drug has a page of its own and it gives you the name and brand names of each one. It gives you a description of what it is used ...

An interesting book of case studies
Advantages: Interesting, thought-provoking case studies Disadvantages: Author doesn't really make any conclusions clear; more for the specialist
Oliver Sacks is a physician and neurologist by profession, but has an extremely keen ear for music. He is supremely, if not almost uniquely, qualified to tell us in the opening pages of this book that the power of music occupies more areas of our brain than language does. This is by way of a prelude to a book consisting largely of case histories of people struggling to adapt to different neurological conditions. Among the cases he discusses is that ... ...surgeon, who was struck by lightning while making a telephone call, developed a passion for music within a few weeks, started teaching himself the piano, and became a compulsive composer; Silvia N., who suffered from epilepsy, who was normally sent into convulsions by a CD of Neapolitan songs; and Rachael Y., a composer and performer, who suffered a head injury in a car crash, and has retained her sense of melody but lost her sense of harmony, so ...

Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes
Advantages: Easy to use, excellent for revision Disadvantages: Quite basic and sometimes doesn't give actual muscle attachments
...always buying new books with the latest information in that was all highly complicated and made very little sense to me. And so I found myself scouring through a number of online websites and bookstores attempting to find books to aid with my studies but not confuse me to boredom!
This is what I found! The Concise Book of Muscles by Chris Jarmey. It gives you a little bit more than a basic guide to the anatomy of the body but is easy to read and ... ...anatomical movement and explanations about the "core stability" of the body i.e. the vertebral column and thoracic/pelvic region. It then goes on to give an explanation regarding muscle attachment and isometric/isotonic contractions which is very beneficial when studying anything medical.
The book then moves on in sections working from the head downwards with pictures of the muscles and a statement of: origin, insertion, action and nerve supply. ...

A brilliant book for pre-registration nurses!
Advantages: The first text on the NMC Essential Skills Clusters Disadvantages: None!
...NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) Essential Skills Clusters, and tells nurses how to implement these skills into everyday practice. It's now compulsory for these essential skills clusters to be incorporated into all pre-registration nursing programmes, and this is the first book in the market to actually explain how to do so in a step by step fashion. Divided into five sections that discuss a particular area of the Essential Skills Clusters, this ...
