After being restricted to only 4 Medical or Dental choices by UCAS, the need to choose the correct universities is vital to increase the chances of being granted an offer to read Medicine or Dentistry.
QMW is one of the 4 largest colleges of the University of London and has nearly 8000 students. Medicine at QMW may not seem as good as at other medical schools, however I assure you from experience, it surpasses others and is the place to be.
The medical school, St. Bartholomew's and the Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry, is one of the main faculties constituting QMW. The 2 hospitals are among the oldest and most prestigious in London and boast an unrivalled history in the development of medicine. They both serve a large area with students having access to a wide variety of patients from diverse backgrounds, due to the prime location in the East End of London.
In accordance with the recommendations of the GMC in its report “Tomorrows Doctors”, the new course has increased amounts of patient contact from an early stage, with emphasis on problem-based learning.
The social life is excellent both within the College and from what London has to offer.
Famous pioneers associated with the medical school include Percival Pott, Hughlings Jackson, Dr Barnardo, Sir Frederick Treves, James Paget, and William Harvey among many others. A famous patient includes John Merrick, the Elephant Man, who was treated at the Royal London Hospital and is exhibited there.
