(+) cool and quite robust trackpad, good display,64-bit windows 7 (-) few connectors, dell drivers only, not realy for gameing (most models), finger print prone!
Advantages: Sylish looking. Easy to use. Powerful. Reasonably priced (I think). Disadvantages: A little heavier than I expected. Not a brand name.

I have decided to rate this laptop five stars as I really am pleased with it. I like it more than the main PC we have and we paid a lot more money for that than I did for this!
After buying a second hand notebook that stopped working a week after I bought it, I was really annoyed! I only paid a couple of hundred pound for it and so it wasn’t the fact that it was a lot of money that annoyed me, it was the fact that the system was buggered! The person who sold me it knew it was running an operating system it shouldn’t have been and yet sold me it in full confidence. I have emailed the seller but it didn’t surprise me when I received no reply.
I have always wanted a laptop and so decided that if I were going to buy one, then it would now be a brand new one, from a shop, with a guarantee. This is what I did! I saw an offer in Dixon’s and decided to check it out. Unfortunately I didn’t like the terms of the deal and so instead of paying for my new laptop on weekly terms I bought it out right, with my credit card. The interest on my credit card worked out cheaper than the interest Dixon’s were going to charge me and so on my credit card it went!

Intel Pentium 4 processor with 2.4 GHz VGA with up to 64MB shared memory 14,1”TFT XGA colour display DVD-CDRW combo drive
Internal 56K V.90 modem 10/100Mbit fast Ethernet LAN 256MB DDR-RAM (expandable up to 1024 MB) 20 GB hard disk drive 16 bit sound chip onboard
2 internal loudspeakers Touchpad with two mouse buttons UK keyboard Li-ion battery and external power supply
Like I said, I am not technically minded. This information is what I was told when I bought the laptop and this information is on a file on the laptop, so that is how I am able to list it for you.
1 x parallel (epp/ecp) 1 x microphone-in 3 x USB 2.0 1 x Line-out 1 x external monitor 1 x RJ-11 (modem) 1 x RJ-45 Ethernet 1 x FIR 1 x serial port 1 x TV-Out 1 x IEEE 1394 Fire Wire
Now that I have got all of that out of the way, on with the op!
This laptop is blue and silver in colour. When the screen is in the closed position the whole laptop appears to be blue. Once the screen is opened up the interior is blue and silver.
The screen is encased in silver and the keyboard is the same. The actual keyboard is blue in colour and the touchpad mouse can be located under the space bar, in it’s own little panel. The buttons for the mouse are silver in colour and shaped in an arch.
The on/off button, Internet explorer shortcut button and email buttons are located above the keyboard and they are small and round. Either side of these are the two speakers.
Next to the buttons and in-between the speakers are four little light symbols, which reflect the hard drive, caps lock, power supply and email. When any of these are in use, the lights light up to let you know.
The DVD-CDRW drive can be located on the front of the laptop to the left. This works with a simple push action. To release the drive you push it in and it then pops out. To close the drive you simply push it in.
The keyboard is of UK layout and is smaller than you would find on a normal computer. It has all the keys you would normally find, but there is no separate number pad. The numbers run along the top of the keys.
All of the interfaces that I have listed earlier can be found on the back of the laptop and they are nicely grouped together. Next to each one there is a small symbol engraved in the casing, which indicates which is for what! The volume control can be found on the left hand side, next to the fan. For a laptop it has a good level of volume, which can be achieved without any distortion. Next to the volume control is the infrared sensor. This allows you to connect anything that has infrared capabilities.
As well as having a power supply the battery can be found on the underneath of the laptop and it simply clicks into place. When the battery is fully charged you can get 2 hours worth of use out of the laptop, before it will shut down.
The screen is a 14,1” TFT XGA colour display. I have personally found the screen to be clear and clean cut, when it is in use. There are no blurred areas and it provides a good clean picture.
If you touch the screen lightly, you will notice that it can be pushed in slightly. I don’t really recommend that you do this, as this is how you will damage it, but me being me, I had to.
It is bright and easy to see and the quality appears to be really good.
When I am using a computer or my laptop I like to have a space for my wrists to sit. I suffer with achy wrists if I type for too long, and have nowhere to rest them. I am pleased to say that on this laptop, either side of the touchpad mouse, there is enough room for you to rest your hands, while you type.
I have found though, that my fingers aren’t long enough to reach all of the keys, when my hands are resting on the laptop, but it is ideal to have the space there, for when your wrists start to ache.
The mouse, I have already said is a touchpad and can be located underneath the spacebar. The actual touchpad is grey in colour and is about 2 inches long and 3 inches wide.
This sits nicely in it’s own little area, encased in silver. Just underneath the touchpad are the two mouse buttons, which you would normally find on a mouse. They are slightly angled and are just slightly longer then the touchpad. They are silver in colour and easy to use.
The touchpad is very sensitive, but I feel that is because it is brand new. To use it all you have to do is simply slide you finger lightly over the grey surface and you will notice our cursor moving. It is advised that you only use your finger to operate the touchpad as an object like a pen could damage it.
Over time I feel it may become less sensitive, the more I use it. At the moment the slightest touch sends my cursor souring across the page.
The first couple of days that I used the touchpad I contemplated plugging in an external mouse, as I found it a little tricky to operate. I then decided against this, as I really wanted to use it the way it should be used. I am happy to say that with a little practice I have now mastered the art of using a touchpad mouse and I find it really strange to use an ordinary one!
I have already told you that this can be located at the front of the laptop, on the left hand side. It is really easy to use. I only have one small problem with it and that is that I am scared of breaking it!
It is made of plastic and once it has popped out, ready for you to put a CD in, it has no external support. It simply slides in and out and I feel that if it was knocked or caught, it would either shatter to pieces or fall off in my hands.
It works really well though and if treated properly should last for a long time, but it is built in, so if anything does go wrong, I can imagine it would be a bit of a pain to mend.
Once the drive is out and you are ready to insert a CD you can see that all the components are exposed. The laser and other mechanical features have no cover or guards over them and this is also a little bit of a worry. Personally, I would have liked to have seen it a little better protected.
I have not used this feature and I have no intention of using it either. I connect to the Internet through a network lead that plugs into the back of my laptop and runs through a router that is connected to my cable modem and the other computer.
I can tell you that it has a built in 56K modem and the socket for this can be located on the back of the laptop, next to the network socket.
If you buy this laptop outright, like I did, then you will pay £799 from Dixon’s. At the moment this is a saving of £150 from it’s original price.
Dixon’s do offer you the chance to buy this laptop on weekly terms. When I asked them to work out the weekly terms they informed me that it would cost me £6.50 a week, for four years, with no extra insurance.
I decided to buy the laptop on my credit card, as the interest worked out better for me and I could pay it off quicker than four years. Dixon’s would not reduce the four years or raise the amount per week, and I did not want to be paying for this for four years.
With this laptop comes a standard years insurance. If you break it, damage it, lose it or have it stolen you can inform the company and they will mend it, replace what is broken or issue you a new one.
You can if you want to, purchase further insurance. You can either purchase an extra 2, 3 or 4 years. I chose the extra 2 years, which gives me three years in total. It cost me £195 for the extra 2 years but you can either pay for this outright or through your bank. I chose to pay for it monthly, from my bank account. The terms for this are over ten months.
If I ever have any problems I simply phone the company ell them hat is wrong with it and they will come and pick it up, take it away, mend it or replace it and bring it back to me. I though £195 was a fair price to pay for an extra 2 years, as I don’t really know what I am doing half of the time and the chances of me messing it up are high!
I personally love the look of this laptop. I know it is not looks that count, it is it’s ease of use most of all but I really didn’t want a boring black one! I find that this looks really stylish and it looks like it cost a lot more than it did!
The blue casing is a royal blue, rich and deep. The silver interior is speckled very eye catching. Very nice to look at.
Ease of use 5/5
I struggle with electrical things and gadgets most of the time, but I seem to have taken to this like a duck to water! Everything is clearly laid out, easy to use and easily accessible. Everything is within reach and there is no need to be moving the laptop all over the place to be able to access the parts that you need.
It works on a plug and play installation method and I have successfully been able to connect an external floppy drive, digital camera, scanner, printer and network lead without any difficulties. Once something has been plugged into its serial ports or usb ports an icon sits in the task bar saying new hardware has been detected. Once you have clicked on the icon it takes you through the set up in an easy to follow format.
Price 4/5
I really wanted a laptop for less than a thousand pound but I could have done with something a little cheaper than £800 as well. Although I am pleased with the price, as I feel I got a lot for my money, maybe some of you technically computer minded people out there could tell me if I got a good deal?
Call me a silly woman if you wish, but did I get my monies worth?
Software 5/5
I was really happy when I realised it was running windows XP and that it had Nero 5.5 installed on it. On our other computer we are running windows 2000 and easy CD creator. I know someone who has XP and Nero and I really liked the look and layout of them. To get my laptop with them already installed for me was great. This is my personal preference though and I understand everyone has their own favourite tastes when it comes to operating systems and software.
Weight/Dimensions 4/5
I am pleased with the size of this laptop, although it was slightly bigger than expected when it first arrived. For some reason I expected it o be smaller than it was, but I am pleased with it now I have it. It is not too big and it is not too small.
I find it heavier than I thought as well, but it is not that heavy that you cannot carry it about. I must say though, that if you are carrying it for a while, you will notice that you are. Invest in a good bag, with a padded shoulder strap and you will be fine.
Height: 330mm Width: 280 mm Depth: 42 mm Weight: 3.5Kg
Battery Life 3/5
I think that 2 hours battery life, is good, but I would have liked a bit more. It is amazing where the time goes when you are on the computer and 2 hours can fly by, before you realise it.
For the size of this laptop, I guess 2 hours is excellent for it. Personally I think I am just being a little picky!
Manual 5/5
The manual that comes with this laptop is printed on glossy paper and it is clearly laid out into sections. It is very easy to follow and it is written in plain, easy to understand English! It covers everything from turning the laptop on to using all of its features.
I personally found it very helpful for explaining all of the ports on the back of the laptop as I got a little confused with what was what!
On the whole, I am very pleased that I decided to go with this one as it does everything I want it too and more. I have found everything easy to operate and although it has a lot of features I do not feel that it is too much for me.
It looks good, works well and is incredibly easy to operate. If you are looking for a laptop that has a good processor, hard drive and is capable of playing DVDs and CD copying, then this is one that I think you should consider.
It is more than capable of handling games, and the graphics, in my opinion look great! I have installed and played roller coaster tycoon 2, Sim City 4 and zoo tycoon and have no problems running them, with high detail. In my eyes, this laptop works as well, if not better, than our main computer.
If you are interested in this laptop and want to know more and see a picture of it, then go to the Dixon’s online store and type Medion 2592 into the search box on there. It will bring up a picture and a short description for this laptop.

Advantages: Really fast and easy to use Disadvantages: Not as light as I'd like
Before we got this laptop we had a desktop PC with Windows 98, so I don't know whether it's that which influences my opinion or just the plain fact that this laptop is great! It comes with Windows XP home edition and its really easy to use. Its set up for wirelss internet too which is great. It has 4 different USB ports so you can have different things plugged in like modem, scanner etc. The only thing I don't like about this laptop is that it has ... ...it just annoys me a bit, cos i'm weird like that! But it has CDRW so you can make your own CDs for your own pleasure. Great stuff! There is one other thing, which is that I think this is quite heavy for a laptop. I don't know whether thats just me with my high expectations, but hey. Good thing about this is that we bought it from Woolworths in the Sale for £399! Bargain! ...
