...I had this laptop for a while and it was the perfect machine i could ask for whilst it was mine. Before you ask, NO, i did not throw it away! i gave it to my sister and brought another desktop pc for myself.
The Design
Acer always seem to make nice looking machines in my opinion and this is no exception. The Travelmate 5520G-5A1G12 is a stylish laptop in full black casing apart from the mouse scrolling interface. I love the shiny finish and the toolbar of crystal blue quick launch buttons below the screen. It comes with a superb 15.4 inch widescreen TFT screen that is large enough for your working requirements and provides fantastic images in its 1280 by 800 resolution.
It weighs 2.9 kg which is not very much, justifying its designation as a 'travelmate' laptop for on the move people.
The Processor
It's an Athlon64 X2 TK-53 Mobile...

Advantages: Uses Athlon 64 processor Disadvantages: heavy to carry
...This machine comes from the same stable as the other R3000 series machines.
Cosmetically, it looks very similar in design. Where it differs, is the specification.
I chose this machine since it is the only one in the series that sports the Athlon64 processor.
As the name sugests, it is a 64bit processsor which makes the machine very "future proof".
The present OS supplied is XP home, so very little is gained at the moment. However there is a beta version of the 64bit XP Prof available for download and this ran on the machine without any problems. There is also 64bit Linux available. If your an enthusiast like me, this is a good laptop for the future.
Like all HP products, it is well built allthough a bit on the heavy side weighing in at about 3.7Kg.
It has a bright 15" TFT display with a max resolution of 1760 by 768, powered...

Advantages: Fast CPU Disadvantages: On current standards dated graphics.
...I bought one of these laptops, it must be nearly 3 years ago now, and in short i am very impressed with its performance and value.
I went for the best at the time, Athlon64 3400+ if i remember correctly, 512MB RAM and 80GB hard drive.
Although the 64MB GeForce FX 5700 is not the fastest it does a reasonable job at most of the games i have thrown at it.
For example it will run Colin McRae Rally 4/Call of Duty 2 in 1024x768 on standard detail setting, smoothly.
The 80GB hard drive was top end when new, but is now starting to look inadequate compared to new models on the market, but it is easily upgradeable.
The 512MB RAM as standard consisted of 2 x 256MB sticks, i replaced one of these with a 1GB stick and it was well worth it.
After less than a year the graphics board went belly up and was quickly replaced under warranty. This has...

I bought mine on ebay for £360, I needed it for university study and it's working really well for small documents like word and excel and it will also play some games well, mainly Unreal Tournament online :-)
The disk space of 60GB is plenty for me.... more
Please bow your heads and stand a moment in silence to mark the passing of my old laptop, an Acer travelmate 230, which, after four years and one too many blows to the head, finally gave up the ghost and went to laptop heaven with some of my holiday... more
I was given this laptop a few days ago...with Windows vista. I have had experience with vista so it was not that hard to get used to. However this was vista business so it did not come with the windows games which you are used to. With a dual core 1.9Ghz more
