Advantages Very effective cold and flu childrens aid.
Disadvantages Can cause sedation, more so in some than others.
As an undegraduate Pharmacy student and fully trained pharmacy counter assistant, i am no stranger to dealing with enquiries about Medised.
Medised is a fairly nice tasting liquid based medicine which contains two active ingredients, Paracetamol and diphenylhydramine.Paracetamol is helpful in the reduction of pain and fever as it reduces temperature and is able to reduce general headaches, aches and pains.
Diphenylhydramine is an antihistamine which helps to dry the lining of the nasal passages, particularly useful when your child has a runny nose. The antishistamine is sedative, which means it can cause drowsiness. This may also be useful when the child finds it difficult to sleep with his/her cold.Medised is classed as a (P) medicine, which means it can only be purchased under the supervision of a Pharmacist. You cannot therefore buy it in just any shop.
Medised is often proven to be more useful when treating a cold than suspensions containing just paracetamol alone like Calpol. However as with all medicines, you should seek advice from the Pharmacist on duty if your child takes any other medicines or has any medical conditions as they will be able to advise you on the most appropriate action to take.
Medised SHOULD NOT be taken with any other paracetmol containing product.
