I need food!

Advantages: Healthy eating, healthy happy child.
Disadvantages: Messy?

'''Weaning''' is a very exciting milestone for parents and babies, but some parents find this time to be a little daunting too.

Weaning is a gradual process that requires time and patience. The weaning experience is different with every child. It is always a good time to start when you and your baby are in good health, and are feeling relaxed. It is also best to delay the weaning process if your baby is adapting to anything else ...
...recommend that you wait until your baby has reached 6 months of age, to prevent your baby from getting allergies, and because a baby's digestive system is not ready until this age. However some parents wean their babies before this age.

I think as a parent you know when your baby is ready for food; some babies need extra nourishment when milk alone does not satisfy them so parents decide to introduce food at an earlier age. When ... more

INFORMATION ON BOTH HOME AND READYMADE BABY FOODS

Advantages: Homemade is best but readymade can be convienient
Disadvantages: Parents can feel under pressure

With 'Baby Food' being such a huge topic and with much advice being available from health visitors and reference books, I thought in this review I would just take a look at one of my favourite readymade products and then just give some brief advice on foods to concentrate on as you wean your baby over the first 12 months. It is important to remember that breast or formula milk still has a huge part to play in your baby's diet over the first 12 months ...
...drinks can be given as cooled boiled water up until the age of 6 months and after that fresh cool tap water is fine. Any bottles and accessories used in feeding milk or dairy products should be sterilised for the first 12 months to avoid the risk of illness or stomach upset. I don't usually purchase too much ready-made, pureed, baby food as it is fairly easy to make at home. For quick snacks, fruits like bananas, ripe peaches and ripe melon can ...

It can be a bit daunting

Advantages: Good wholesome cooking without the worry of whats in it.
Disadvantages: can take a long time to prepare but its worth it

Every new mum will know how daunting it is just thinking about feeding your baby nutritious meals that you have prepared yourself! Finding out what they like and what they don't,they always let you know in the end either by crying or turning there little noses up at it or plain old projectile vomiting(yuck)! When I first started to wean my son he was great, not to fussy and loved things like pureed carrots and parsnips. These are great as they are ...
...try not to add sugar to anything as this will lead to a sweet tooth. I used to give pureed banana and cooked and pureed apple at breakfast, then on too lunch which consisted of carrot and parsnips, yum!! You can puree any vegetable and should wait to introduce meat at about 5 or 6 months!!by which time you can make loads of different meals for baby! One of my son fav's is spagetti bolognese!! Here's the recipe ----------------- Fry 1 tablespoon of ...

Puree's R us

Advantages: Cheap and easy to do!
Disadvantages: None

I found it easier to feed my daughter and my son before her from ice cube trays, these are a god send, I think I read it in a baby magazine first then someone else suggested it, maybe the health visitor, but if it makes life easier then its worth trying. So what to put in the miraculous objects?? Answer is anything (apart from Bananas as they don't freeze once mashed). This also depends on your babies age and what they have tried already. So starting ...
...give solids before this age, you can give apple, pear Banana and Papaya and the trick is to make up loads and freeze the separate fruits in the ice cube trays then as your baby grows you can mix and match as necessary. The vegetables from 4 months are Carrot, cauliflower, potato, courgette, squash, green beans, swede and sweet potato. You must remember not to add any sugar or salt to these whilst cooking and the fruit and veg need to be cooked just ...

Fast food for babies

Advantages: easy and healthy
Disadvantages: really colourful nappies

I've been lucky with my baby - he will eat almost anythnig, likes texture and lumps, rarely throws up or spits anything out. I found much of this out because I resent the idea of spending 50p a meal for someone of his tiny size. Making baby food isn't as hard as it sounds. One way of doing it is to buy a food processor and process anything and everything that you eat. Fine in theory, however, you will rapidly find that your food has a good deal ...
...to have. Little one cannot have nuts, so there's no puree-ing honey nut cornflakes for breakfast, no bread products for the first few months so you can forget watching that sandwhich getting mashed, and if you cook your own tea from scratch, you may find that salt free baby cooking is more than you can bear to eat. You won't be able to offer him a portion of any tinned, pre packed food as there's always more salt and sugar than a baby should have. ...

How to rear a bottomless pit

Advantages: gets baby's taste buds working and is cheaper
Disadvantages: messy - very messy!!

Or Mel’s (rough) guide to weaning. I have to say before I start that I have been extremely lucky with charlotte. She is a human dustbin and will eat anything that’s put in front of her. The only complaints I get are: (10 minutes after eating): Mummy I haven’t had anything to eat for AGES, I’m very HUNGRY. I realise it is so easy to have a picky child – listening to some of the mums down at school: He’ll only ...
...the rest of the week it’s pot noodles and flat coke!! I really do thank me lucky stars that I have one good eater and another one in the making. I do think though that what you feed them in the early days helps them on the road to being good eaters. So for your perusal my guide. It’s worked for Charlie and is working (so far – fingers crossed - for Ciaran) Starting Off Babies shouldn’t start to be given solids until around ...
