Member Advice on Body Piercing

After 3 years of umming and arring I finally took the plunge to get my belly button pierced. Now why? was i asked its not generally an area you walk around showing off all the time (in the cold english weather its not anyway!! ) but I thought it looked good and lots of celebritties had it done at the time not the best reason I know. I went to a local beauty salon that employed professional body piercer once a week. I had been the salon before and it was very clean and had a great reputation. When I arrived i spoke to the person carrying it out spoke at length about what it involved, after care and just incase what could go wrong such as infection. I then chose my jewlery which was a gold bar with a blue stone. After cleaning the area she applied a clamp and then put the needle through,, the clamp actually hurt more than the needle!! It was quite painless and didnt bleed much. afterwards i was told to rest for a bit as its a shock to the body. I kept it covered as advised for a few days and used a savlon antiseptic spray on it and was told not to change the bar for 6 months more if possible.

My belly button did stay red for a while after but i cleaned it alot and salt water is a good tip to use on it. It was almost painless after i got it done which i didnt expect. I changed the bar after 8 months with no trouble and at that point it was completly fine. However it does say it can take up to 7 years for it to heal completley so you cant keep leaving the bar out.

I love my belly ring now and cant really see me taking it out for a good while,, its great on holiday and i like matching it to my bikini!!

Before you get it done ensure you know what your getting yourself in for, get a reputable salon / qualified person to do it and make sure your willing to look after it afterwards or it could end up nasty!
