HMO Debt Collectors gave me 48 hours of HELL
Review of Member Advice on Debt Issues by MAllen400

Advantages: none at all
Disadvantages: these people should be closed down and shame on 3 for using them.Get a law for it please

Because of the Credit Crunch a lot of firms are looking up old debts and getting debt collectors to get the money. This has happened to me and it has been a really really really bad 48 hours. It began when I had a card sent to me saying that there was a parcel waiting my collection as it could not be delivered. Would I please telephone them so they could deliver it. I thought that this although not the post office but some kind of delivery firm and ...
...having done a few competitions that I had won something. I rang the number. Before they could tell me anything they wanted my home and mobile telephone and my full address. Like a fool I told them. I was to bitterly regret this. I then asked them what the parcel was and when would it be delivered. "It is a pack" where from "London" can you tell me who from "mutter mutter" pardon? and after trying to get her to repeat it and spell it I finally got ... Read review

Beaumont legal - cheap but in my opinion a very poor service
Review of Member Advice on Moving House by Mothafunka

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: poor communication.

I debated whether to spend a bit more on a local solicitor for conveyancing or go for one of the cheaper on line conveyancing firms. After reading reviews I decided to go with Beaumont Legal because they were £400 cheaper than local solicitor quoted, how I wish I had spent a bit more and used a local firm. I have found that my emails have gone unanswered and my attempts to speak with the partner that is dealing with my file are blocked with a 'he ...
...will call you back' - he doesn't! I am now in a position where the lower chain say they are ready to go and so is the upper chain, however things are being held up because my conveyancing isn't complete due to a number of issues that have been sat on for (in my opinion) an unacceotable amount of time by Beaumont Legal. In my case the Service Level Agreement as laid out in initial contract for response to emails and phone calls and dealing with correspondence ... Read review

Take the bank to your house (KBC, Belgium)
Review of Member Advice on Internet Banking by Ibeke

Advantages: Far less visits to the bank
Disadvantages: Fear of hackers?

When I started with internet banking it was actually just out of curiosity. At first I was a bit scared because after all: it is on the net and there are a lot of other people on the net as well, and many of them often not of good will. But I thought: the bank ain't no stupidos. They've thought of this way before I did and of course they have extensive security on their website. I also thought asking for the key would be very bureaucratic with all ...
...and that I would have to wait for weeks before activation, but it was far easier than that. It cost me one (!) tiny visit to the bank. They explained everything to me, including security and possibilities and after signing a confirmation I got a package with instructions. I had to load some files on a floppy in order to have that floppy serve as a sort of bank card. Everytime I want to log into my bank account I have to insert the floppy. So, actually ... Read review

Some advice on the usage of credit cards.
Review of Member Advice on Credit Cards & Loans by iamasadlittleboy

Advantages: Can be worth while...
Disadvantages: ...but usually isn't

...from collections, but the collections member will usually be willing to point you to making a payment through a means other than over the phone. If they call don't talk down to them as if they have just shot your first born, they are doing a job intended to stop bailiffs from coming around. In short stay on top of payments and make sure you pay them at the right time other wise charges can become a bane of your financial existence, also make sure ...
...If your experiencing problems get in touch with the bank, they want to keep you as a customer if you owe them money as oppose to you going bankrupt, so tell them if you're unable to make full payments as soon as possible so they can help you out. Don't treat collections staff with contempt they are there for your support, and are looking at trying to help you, not try to take the meal off your plate. ... Read review
