I debated whether to spend a bit more on a local solicitor for conveyancing or go for one of the cheaper on line conveyancing firms. After reading reviews I decided to go with Beaumont Legal... more

Advantages Advantages A much nicer home

Disadvantages Disadvantages The stress and expense of moving

I was recently reading one of those lists that appear in the media from time to time rating the most stressful life events. This particular one listed moving house as the fifth most stressful thing a person can experience, behind the death of a child, death of a partner, death of a close family member and being sent to prison; it outranked the death of a close friend, getting divorced, being fired or having your business fail. Clearly this was a Western-orientated list that didn't include such stressful life events as "being accidentally bombed by American aircraft after being misidentified by ... more

Advantages Advantages A New Carthartic exciting begining. Getting rid of junk . De-cluttering your life.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive. Another of life's challenge.. (and the rest!)

Moving house. It was inevitable one day. With a bi-polar husband 3 kids and 15 yrs later; we finally received 'that 'phone call that changes your life for ever.. We were moving. I knew we were only a number...a dot on the Borough Council's ever bursting increasing workload..and just about how many homes can one family refuse without being thrown off the course? Three times, apparently, and we had passed that 6 years ago! :)other homes years later we'd been offered were, in our mind barely suitable...though we gave the council the benefit of the doubt and always looked around we drew the same ... more

Advantages Advantages New life experiences and change of scenery brings great satisfaction

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can cost a lot of money

Well I thought I would give you all interesting insight into what I have been doing over the past few days. Yes, I said DAYS not WEEKS! If you've ever lived in a rented property, you will know that whenever it comes to moving everything moves very quickly and the shock of it all can often be a little over powering. Thus, here is my version of what you should do and what not to do when you are moving! REASON FOR MOVING This is an easy one in most cases, the majority of us move for one of the following reasons: a) We need a big (or even a smaller) property to live in. b) We need to move closer ... more

Advantages Advantages The excitement of living somewhere new

Disadvantages Disadvantages Stress and packing - are they the same thing?

I have lived in five countries and have moved house nearly 20 times. In the last 15 years, I've only hired a removals firm once; the rest of the time I've done it myself with the help of a few friends. While it is very stressful, I've come up with a few ways to cut down on the hassle - and I'd like to share these with you. 1. Upstairs, downstairs Everything you move has to go through your front door, so it makes sense to have your belongings as close to the exit as possible. Make sure you get everything down from the loft (or up from the cellar) before moving day. After all, if it's in the ... more

Advantages Advantages you can move on to a bigger, better, quieter house!

Disadvantages Disadvantages it is very very stressful and lots of hard work

They sure got it right when they said that moving house is in the top 5 of most stressful things in life! I am not just talking about the selling/buying of a house, but all the packing and unpacking that goes with it! Having moved 20 plus times in my relatively short life, I feel fairly well qualified to give some advice on packing and moving house. The time frames given here are not set in stone, the earlier you can start then the better…. Two months before you move  Sort through all your wardrobes/cupboards/sheds/loft and remove anything that hasn’t seen the light of day ... more
