Off the Wall - Michael Jackson 29/08/2006

Happy Birthday Michael Jackson! - Off the Wall

Off the Wall - Michael Jackson So far I have reviewed every other Michael Jackson album out there including, Thriller, Bad and Dangerous. Well today (29th August 2006) is a very special day, it is Michael Jackson's 48th Birthday! For this reason I would like to take the liberty to write my final review on one of the greatest albums of all time - Michael Jackson's first solo album away from Motown, "Off the Wall". A little history about the production of "Off the Wall": Released in August 1979 "Off The Wall" was Michaels first solo album as an adult artist. He wanted this album to be the best it could be. He needed someone with great experience and had met Quincey Jones on the set on the movie "The Wiz" and Quincey produced the album. Michael wanted the sound of the album to be different from that of the Jacksons who had just had there biggest album success with "Destiny". Michael wanted songs that were good for him to sing and that he could move to. In came Rod Temperton who penned "Rock With You" a big hit, "Burn This Disco Out" and the title track. During the sessions Quincey approached Michael with "Girlfriend" saying how well suited that song would be for him. "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" was the first song Michael had written himself as a whole and became US No1 hit single. Each track is very different from the last but they blend together in such a way that makes you want to groove the whole way through the album! 1. Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough - If you listen to it carefully, ...

Coca-Cola Zero 29/08/2006

Coke Zero - The New Kid on the Block

Coca-Cola Zero I will split this review into sections so everyone can understand each aspect clearly and broadly. I will cover, Aroma, Design, Price and Taste. Infront of me I have a 330ml Can of CocaCola Zero; Design: It looks great, bold red logo in the normal font with a silver shadow. Underneath is the "Zero" logo which is in bold silver/grey lettering with the "O" being partial to a little extra design. The tagline underneath this states; "Great Coke taste, Zero Sugar" have we heard this before? I think so.."Maximum taste, no sugar" being the tagline of Pepsi's long running beverage "Pepsi Max". It seems to me that the originality of this slogan isnt very well thought out, something better could have surely been made up with all the money put into the CocaCola company! As i turn the can anti-clockwise I am presented with a modern, lively, silver paint splattered, cityscape design which travels upwards on the can which then evolves into cubes and cuboids which then dissapear into the top of the can. Some red spots are also visible on this design. I turn the can again a little more to find the usual nutition information writeen in silver and red, but nothing is unusual here so i will leave that part. The same as the top and bottom of the can apply here. Nothing unusual here! Ok, after my examination, my can is warm so I will go and get another can fresh from the fridge............... .........Ok got one! Aroma: I open the can to the fimilar "PSSHHHT" sound that we ...

Everything that starts with M ... 24/08/2006

Michael Jackson: Because you read it in a magazine

Everything that starts with M ... I would like to take the oppurtunity to write a review of someone who is not a member of my family or a friend by knowing him. But he is someone i consider to be a close friend and even closer family member whenever i think about or listen to or watch him perform or speak. This man is someone who you may call, "freak" or "pedophile", I just like to call him Michael Jackson. He is someone who has always been there for me, good or bad in his music and his lyrics and his passion for life and his love of animals and children. He is someone who has managed to deal with things for the past thirteen years and still produce music to a high level. He is an inspiration for me not only for his musical genious but because he is one of the only artists today who cares about other people, especially children. His love for children is something which has been misunderstood. You can all believe the stories about his relationship for children but I would like to supply you all with some facts about his relationship and charity work he has done to help children and others; Michael Jackson is a true humanitarian, an example to us all. He has devoted much time and money to a wide range of charities. He loves children and takes time out when touring secretly visting sick children. He was listed in the 2000 edition of the Guiness Book Of World Records for breaking the world record for the "Most Charities Supported By a Pop Star". It states that Michael Jackson has supported 39 ...

Oh No - OK Go 23/08/2006

Oh No! Finally a decent UK rock album!

Oh No - OK Go Ok for a start I am not into rock and roll and your alternative rock genre of music. From my other CD reviews you will be able to see that I am into more funky sounding music such as Stevie Wonder and especially Michael Jackson. So to some of you this review will be good because i will be looking at it with an entirely different viewpoint on UK rock music maybe to others who will review it. The album cover is very interesting yet simple. A large "OK GO" logo on the front of a black background. The lettering made up from a cross between Japanese red artwork and tudor elegant England Rugs. Strange it may seem but check it out for yourself you will see what I mean and this strange yet simple relates to the material you will hear. There are thirteen tracks on this album with not one lasting over 4 minutes even if you don't like a track you won't have to stick with it long until it is over. For the songs themselves i will review each song simply for you to get a taste of what you will hear once you buy the album; Invincible - With an opening of the band asking weather they are ready, it is a fantastic into to an album, as if the whole thing is being performed to us live. The song itself breaks brilliantly with a great drum solo which escalates into fantastic heavy guitarwork which is also quite funky. This continues throughout and gets even more predominant with the chorus. Do What You Want - A heavier intro which then calms down into well sung pacey lyrics along ...

A Level Film Studies - My Fortè

Film Studies As you all may have noticed from reading my profile I have recently just finished taking my A Level exams. Over the two year course i studied History, English, ICT, Drama and my fortè which is Film Studies. I would like to take this oppurtunity to explain to you all about this subject and how and why it had changed my career path over the past 2 years. Before i started my A Levels, i had many differnt aspirations, first of becoming a lawyer, then of being a chef. However, once i started my A Level course in Film Studies 2 years ago i have my heart set on working in the film industry. This is so true that i am awaiting to start my BA course at BCUC University to major in film production and minor in film studes with a sandwich year to work in calilfornia and visit the Cannes Film Festival. This all may sound ambitious to you all, but after the film studies course you will have gained enough knowledge about the art of making a film to carry on and take a degree in a field of film, such as production or editing. To take the course you are usually required to have at least 5 GCSE's of grades A-C. You are also advised to have at least a grade B at English GCSE because the course is very theoretical with essays and coursework which make your fingers bleed! These essays and coursework assignments are so great though that it doesnt matter how much your hands hurt you can still go on and write more. "The Course Structure" The Advanced Subsidiary is studied in the first ...

Virgin Atlantic Airways - VIR 21/07/2006

As bad as the company name

Virgin Atlantic Airways - VIR Having just returned from a weeks holiday in the hustle and bustle of Manhattan, New York City i would like to take the time to review the one thing i regret about the seven day experience. At the beginning of the year i decided along with my mother to book a holiday to New York City. This was mainly to celebrate my 18th birtthday, but was also to see the sights as one would and scope out future living accomodation for when i move there to study film. This being a very special trip for myself and probably a one off for my mother, we decided our best bet was to fly with a reputible company not only for their reputation in general but for their frequent transfers to New York. This was probably our biggest mistake of the trip. Arriving happily and excited at London Heathrow we were immediately confronted with the unmistakeable check-in desks of Virgin Atlantic. As we walked our way past "Upper Class" and "Premium Economy" class check in desks we began to feel almost outcast as we walked towards our (very expensive i would like to add) "Economy" check in desk. As we arrived we were approached by a seemingly dull figure dressed in a scruffy virgin atlantic uniform. After using only using small words in the fashion of the voice of Stephen Hawking we managed to work out for ourself where we had to carry on to check in. We arrived next to the baggage loading system where again another 2-D character simply pointed to the "DIY Check-in Desk". At this point we moved still ...

Wilkinsons (Shop) 16/06/2006

A Review from an Employee: Insider

Wilkinsons (Shop) I would like to take the oppurtunity to review my place of work. Being a recently fulltime A level student i have been employed part-time on Saturdays and Sundays at the store and have worked during the holidays as a shift coverer. As i plan to leave the company soon for a fulltime job during my Gapyear for another company, namely a shop that deals with electricals for help with my Filmmaking Ambitions, i would like to shed some light on the comany that maybe customers have not realised. I would like to start off with Staff friendlyness and customer service. Personally i strive to keep the customer happy as long as they are kind and courtious to me in the first instance. However, it is difficult to keep the customer happy at Wilkinsons stores. This, however, is through no fault of the customer. Wilkinsons is a very disorganised store, it seems that it is not only the customers who cannot find products they have come into buy but as an employee i find it difficlt to find certain "smaller" products for them. Products are constantly moved around by staff and customers alike and promotions are constantly shifted for a "lager sale". It seems however that this "efficient" scheme of moving products around the store to capture the customer's eye is a downfall because customers miss the product and go to the place they expect the product to be located. This means the customer comes to ask a member of staff about where the product is. As a Customer Service Assistant my main job ...

Michael Jackson - Number Ones (DVD) 12/06/2006

A Timline of a Genious

Michael Jackson - Number Ones (DVD) This DVD for me is a triumph in music history as it captures the greatest hits (not necessarily his greatest songs) in one musical DVD. This makes me happy as people can watch the DVD and understand the legend that is MIchael Jackson throughout his ongoing career for what he is and not for what he has been accused of in recent years. The DVD for me captures the sensational music videos, musical stories, musical performance and the musical genious that is Michael Jackson. The DVD opens cleanly onto a simple yet nice looking menu with a video select where you can choose between the 15 tracks on the DVD disc or you can just watch the whole lot! (Which is my personal preference). The songs are in the order that they were released by Michael, here is the list with the duration of each video and which album they are taken from; 1) Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough (Off The Wall) 4:07 2) Rock With You (Off The Wall) 3:36 3) Billie Jean (Thriller) 4:55 4) Beat It (Thriller) 4:56 5) Thriller (Thriller) 13:40 6) Bad (Bad) 4:20 7) The Way You Make Me Feel (Bad) 9:29 8) Man In The Mirror (Bad) 5:00 9) Smooth Criminal (Bad) 9:25 10) Dirty Diana (Bad) 5:08 11) Black Or White (Dangerous) 6:22 12) You Are Not Alone (History) 5:37 13) Earth Song (History) 6:45 14) Blood On The Dancefloor (Blood on The Dancefloor) 4:15 15) You Rock My World (Invincible) 10:26 "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" features Jackson floating over a background of disco lights dancing and smiling ...

Stomp Out Loud / Brooms (DVD) 11/06/2006

Stomps you for a short while

Stomp Out Loud / Brooms (DVD) I am very glad to report that Stomp Out Loud presents percussionists of a very different stripe, a unified, intricately synchronized group of inventive artists who turn everything they touch into rhythmic magic. Founded by Luke Cresswell in the U.K. as an act for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the original act known as Stomp grew to encompass stage, screen and television, with five active companies touring the world. This HBO special blends the original U.K. company with members of the New York cast, filmed over a two week period in New York City, utilizing classic numbers from the stage show and new material created for the film. It must be said that the energy of a live Stomp performance can't ever be captured on film; I'm sure the experience of being there, seeing this amazing work done in real time, would be head-and-shoulders above any recorded presentation. And words can't really do justice to Stomp either, though I'm going to try anyway. Stomp Out Loud is like Riverdance with an industrial bent and far less pretense, though the physical prowess on display is easily as impressive as any act you'll ever see. The TV special reimagines the stage show nicely, alternating concert performance segments with opened-up vignettes set in kitchens and alleyways, turning basketballs, playing cards, and junkyard finds into marvelous percussive instrumentation. Also on this subject, the Audio/video synchronization and editing are clever and sharp, though your eye will never be ...

Dangerous - Michael Jackson 10/06/2006

Certainly Not "Dangerous" to buy!

Dangerous - Michael Jackson Yet another album by Michael Jackson to hit number one, 'Dangerous' is Michael Jackson's fourth solo album and a huge step in a different direction from his earlier titles such as 'Thriller' and 'Bad'. It is such a shame that the album that was produced in 1991 is only encircled in bad publicity - the beginning of his child molestation accusations. I would like to at this point remind everyone, that we do not buy this geniouses life, we buy his music, and that is what i would like to focus this review on. The musical phenominan that is Michael Jackson. Michael's album 'Dangerous' tries to move on to something new. It achieves this well, but with encircing accusations it was not the most popular of his albums, i like to call it his "lost" album. The music on the album is also refreshinly different to the tracks he had produced before but still had the elements to a perfect Michael Jackson track. The album although moving into a different direction, doesn't necessarily move in any specific direction, the styles of song are quite varied, from the rock style of 'Give in to me' to the harmonious sound of 'Will you be there' As you can see below it is so far the longest of Michael's albums with tracks that not only produced to talk about women or cars like todays generic musical styles but talks about issues that need to be dealt with, for example both "Heal the World" and "Keep the Faith" are very moving. 1. Jam 2. Why you wanna trip on me 3. In the closet 4. She ...

Michael Jackson - Live In Bucharest - The Dangerous Tour (DVD) 06/06/2006

You will not Blink...

Michael Jackson - Live In Bucharest - The Dangerous Tour (DVD) In the fall of 1992, Michael Jackson was in the midst of a world concert tour in support of his album Dangerous when he appeared in Bucharest for a show that was videotaped for broadcast on the premium cable network HBO. The show garnered HBO's biggest ratings to date, and became one of the biggest cable music events of the year. The "Michael Jackson: Live in Bucharest" DVD brings this legendary show to home video, with Jackson performing a career-spanning selection of his greatest hits. I have always wanted to own at least one Michael Jackson concert on DVD and i was so glad that an issue of the Dangerous tour would be available to buy. The reason for this was because of the stunning reviews and statistics of the show and of course the songs Michael performs to an extremely high level with emotion, finesse and above all...Dance. 1. Main Title 2. Jam 3. Wanna Be Startin' Something 4. Human Nature 5. Smooth Criminal 6. I Just Can't Stop Loving You 7. She's Out Of My Life 8. I Want You Back / The Love You Save 9. I'll Be There 10. Thriller 11. Billie Jean 12. Working Day And Night 13. Beat It 14. Will You Be There 15. Black Or White 16. Heal The World 17. Man In The Mirror 18. Credits The selection is among the best of his hits with Smooth Criminal being one of my favourite of the show with him alonside 5 other backing dancers execute the "anti-gravity" lean infront of thousands upon thousands of screaming fans. The finale of the show was the ...

Power in Numbers (Parental Advisory) [PA] - Jurassic 5 05/06/2006

An Alternative to "Gangsta" Rap

Power in Numbers (Parental Advisory) [PA] - Jurassic 5 I would like to take the oppurtunity to review the album that has not yet been studied on Ciao. I am unsure why because it is my favourite of the 3 Jurassic 5 albums because of it's new mellow, soulful and funky approach to Hip Hop. Before i begin i would like to point out that as i have aged i have grown out of so called "Gangsta" rap from artists such as 50 cent and Eminem, don't get me wrong i enjoy a listen now and again, but my tastes have developed and i can appreciate music rather than commercial mechanisms. It would take far to much of mine and your time to outline each of the 17 tracks on this album so i will point out my top three and why i enjoy these tracks so much. I will also talk about my least favourite and why. Top 5: "If you only knew" - Heavy backbeat with light technical hi-hats keep the rythm moving to a sweet flute played harmoniously throughout. A lovely piano vibe is heard also throughout th track, a signature of Jurassic 5. The lyrics are tight and are passed frequently between the band members before each chorus. All in all a great track. "Hey" - Such a beautiful piece of music. A delightful intro of synthesized mellow fading sounds that start the song carry on throughout and are just bliss to shut your eyes to. The beat shuffles with a simple one, two beat and shaker heard for the grinding effect. Again the lyrics are fantastic with rap almost becoming song. "What's Golden" - The fastest paced song on the album which is dirty, ...

Armani Emporio Armani White Eau de Toilette for Him 05/06/2006

The sexiest male fragrance...

Armani Emporio Armani White Eau de Toilette for Him I wont bore you with details of how Emporio Armani originated etc like other reviewers seem to have done. I intend to point out the practicalites, advantages, disadvantages and my own experience of the product. I will start with the bottle. Its simple design, nothing fantastic here, nice and elegant looking though, it's like the fragrance, not over the top but its nice. I always buy the 100ml bottle, it lasts longer! A 50ml and 30ml bottle is also available. The fragrance is stated to have vibrant notes of bergamot, lemon, mandarin are freshened by thyme and rosemary to create the masculine scent. To be frank, what the hell is "bergamot", i would say that the lemon is definately present and the rosemary and the fruity undertones. In a nutshell is smells fresh and funky. It suits my dress sense also, quite trendy. I'm sorry i had to add that part in. It does suit the more well dressed, trendy, well kept man. The advantages of the fragrance are obviously its divine smell. It also has other advantages, it seems to stay on clothes such as jackets for a couple of days, which may sound abit dirty but its nice as the smell matures and grows more attractive as the days go by on certain fabrics. To be quite honest i have been complimented everytime i have worn this fragrance out to dinner or to a club, its a magnet! The disadvantage is that although it stays on your jacket well it doesn't stay on skin for very long, 1-2 hours max. I always take a small refill bottle with ...

Thriller - Michael Jackson 05/06/2006

"Thriller" - 60,000,000 copies

Thriller - Michael Jackson A little bit of background to this classic Michael Jackson album: In 1982, Jackson released his second Epic album, "Thriller", which became the best-selling album in music history with more than 60 million copies sold worldwide. The album spawned seven hit singles, including "Billie Jean", which was the first music video by an black artist to receive regular airplay on MTV. "Thriller" spent 37 weeks at number one and remained on the Billboard album chart for 122 weeks. It was eventually certified 26x Platinum in the United States and is still the biggest selling album of all time...and guess what, I am not surprised! Here is a rundown of each track and why it appeals to me; "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin" - Fast paced, beat orientated, simple and funky. It is it's simple yet outlandish and original rythm along with Michael's vocals on the song which make it a huge hit for me on the album. "Baby Be Mine" - Although it is probably the song i listen to the least in the huge amount of time i dedicate to listening to and watching Michael Jackson songs, the song is not bad at all, its nice and smooth, R'n'B orientated with a nice 80's feel to it. "The Girl Is Mine" - Such a smooth classic, very laid back, funny in parts with a stand off between Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. Although i am not a fan of McCartney his vocal add another dimension to the song. "Beat It" - Probably one of Michael Jackson's most well known songs, with a very rocky feel to it. The ...

Bad - Michael Jackson 04/06/2006

"Bad" - The greatest album of all time

Bad - Michael Jackson Now, although this review may be considered biast as i am a huge fan of Michael Jackson and everything that encapsulates his performance, music, voice and producing. I would like to give a review that would help his reputation and for people to enjoy classic songs that outweigh some of today's music. Most of today's music is overplayed and will not be heard in 20 years time unlike the timeless classics on this album and other Michael Jackson albums. I recommend that you purchase all of Michael Jackson albums and not just bad as his musical style does alter through his long career, although every song has its generic elements of a fantastic Michael Jackson musical masterpiece: "Bad" - Well known Michael Jackson track, known for its choreography in the music video. The track is funky and smooth yet well paced and groovy "Way you make me feel" - Such a fantastic Michael Jackson song. Its use of electronic beats plus orchestral instruments such as the trumpet create a piece of music like no other! One of my favourites "Speed demon" - A highlight of Michael Jackson's feature film 'Moonwalker', a catchy rythm and trademark MJ sounds such as "Aaow"! This is another of my favourite tracks he has produced. "Liberian girl" - A tropical blend of carrabean beats and western lyrics give the song a fantastic edge. Michael's voice is fantastic in this tune. "Just good friends" - Well, a funky, fast ride with my two favourite artists of all time, Stevie Wonder and MJ. What ...
