Shameless - Series 1 - Complete (DVD) 31/10/2005

Shameless - Series 1

Shameless - Series 1 - Complete (DVD) SHAMELESS - SERIES 1 ON DVD When I first started watching Shameless I was in hysterics. I love the show, it's very realistic. The family are a great bunch and in one way or another, I can relate to the whole cast. I think Paul Abbott did a fantastic job with this! The show is based round a family from Manchester, Stretford. Dad Frank is head of the family, having 6 kids and his wife left him 3 years ago. Chatsworth Estate is where the family live. They have their ups and downs, but they always pull through. ~~~Introduction to Shameless~~~ If you've watched Shameless, you will understand that the only way to introduce this comedy show is to use Franks words. "Now, nobody's saying the Chatsworth Estate is the Garden of Eden, at least, I don't think they are, but it's been a good home to us, to me, Frank Gallagher, and me kids, who I'm proud of, cus every single one of 'em reminds me a little of me. They can all think for themselves, which they've me to thanks for. Fiona, who's a big help, a massive help. Lip, who's a bit of a gobshite, which is why nobody calls him 'Philip' anymore. Ian, a lot like his mam, which is handy for the others cus she's disappeared into thin air. Carl, we daren't let him grow his hair for two reasons, one, it stands on end and makes him look like Toyah, and two, nits love him. Debbie, sent by God, total angel. You gotta check your change but she'll go miles out of her way to do you a favour. Plus Liam! Gonna be a star! Once we've got the ...

My 10 Favourite Body Parts 18/10/2005

Top 10 Body Parts

My 10 Favourite Body Parts I was wondering around the ciao cafe, wondering what to do a review on, when I thought about writing about my top ten favourite body parts on a man, 10 being the least and 1 being my fav. This review is what I would want me dream man to look like. Its only a small review, but my hands are still aching from my last one :o( Hope you enjoy :o) 10. ~~~FEET~~~ Why do feet have to be so damn ugly? Everyone has ugly feet. They're not nice to look at, and the majority of them smell. Women try to make their feet look nicer by painting their toenails, but what can the men do?! Naff all, thats what! They have ugly weird shaped toes, and their little one isn't that little! One word sums up feet - URGH!! My dream man has got to have nice shape feet, not small, smelly and stumpy, with normal size toes. :oD 9. ~~~EARS~~~ Going for a man with big ears isn't something I would do. I had slightly big ears when I was younger, thankfully I've grown into mine now ;o), but whenever I see a man with big ears, I always get reminded of prince charles :o( My dream man's ears have to be normal size, with a piercing. 8. ~~~NOSE~~~ A man has definately got to have a nice shape nose. If its all crooked and bent, whenever we spoke I'd be looking at his nose instead of listening to what he has to say. I like men with cute little button noses, like a baby nose they haven't really grown out of. A nose like Ronan Keatings would be perfect for my dream man. 7. ~~~BACK~~~ If a man has a hairy ...

Charmed - Series 1 (Box Set) (DVD) 05/10/2005

Charmed - Season 1

Charmed - Series 1 (Box Set) (DVD) CHARMED: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON: DVD BOX SET (6 discs) Ever Since I watched one of the episodes of Charmed, which wasn't actually the first one, but about series 3, I was hooked. I loved it. I started watching it on Living TV during the day, which were repeats. But on a Thursday night at 9pm, it was new episodes, and I was constantly getting confused because I had no idea how the sisters came about. I had the general idea about things because Id seen so many episodes, just not in the right order. For a long time I was searching for the Charmed Box Set but it wasn't available. I was gutted. Then I heard they were making a series one box set and I had to have it. My little boy's dad got it me for my birthday and I now understand exactly what's what. The price wasn't exactly right though, pretty expensive at £45. In this review I have put into detail what happened on the very first episode, and with the rest of the episodes I have summarised the best I could. The only downside to this DVD is there are no extras to watch. I'd have liked to have watched some interviews with the cast. If you haven't watched Charmed, I highly recommend you do so. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~The Packaging~~~ Outer box - This has a purple background with a picture of a chandelier lighting up (see episode one), with the word 'Charmed' in the trademark text, written in white. Below that says 'The Complete First season' in capital white letters. Just about the title is ...

Member Advice on Pregnancy 20/06/2005

My pregnancy

Member Advice on Pregnancy My pregnancy wasn't planned. I wish it was, but no. A lot of women I have spoke to, have told me the best thing about having a baby is becoming a family. Mother, baby, and father. I didn't want that. I had always wanted to be a mother, but the family I craved consisted of Mother and baby. Remember when you were younger and you used to dream of your wedding day? I never did that. I only ever dreamed of being a mum, and not once was a man involved. If I was ever going to become a mum, I wanted to do it alone. I was told I was pregnant on 1st April 2004. That's right, April Fools Day. So, obviously, not everyone believed me. When the doctor revealed the news, I was the happiest person alive. But one thing niggled me. The father. I had been with him just over 2 months. He knew from the start I didn't want anything serious. I enjoyed my freedom, liked my independence. The last thing I wanted was a baby with him. Now don't get me wrong. Not once did the thought of abortion enter my mind. But the thought of not telling the father did. I felt selfish. Being independent, I wanted to do this alone, prove to everyone that I can be a great single mum. My mum's first question, after beaming like a Cheshire cat was, what would the father think. My mum knew him, was his boss. I didn't want him to know. But, of course, I had to tell him. After all, he had the right to know, didn't he? I took the cowards way out and sent him a text message with the simple words… "You're gonna be a dad". ...

Christening Keepsake for A Special Boy

Everything that starts with C ... When my son was christened earlier this year, he received a lot of keepsakes, mainly clothes, money and silver things. It was the day after, when I was going through his presents, that I came across a little keepsake book. I hadn't seen one before, or if I had, I hadn't remembered. It caught my eye, so I started flicking through it. Here is my review on 'A Christening Keepsake for a Special Boy'. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~ THE FRONT To feel and touch, the front cover is kind of like a cushion. It is light metallic blue with gold writing which says 'A Christening Keepsake for a Special Boy.' There is a white ribbon effect border, which looks like it has been weaved through the cover, tied in a bow at the top. Outside of this border is another faint border which looks like a normal, straight sewing line, in gold. The main picture is an oval, of a little boy asleep in a Moses basket. There is white and blue ribbon wrapped around the basket and a white and blue blanket. The basket is on grass which is covered in blue flowers, and up the side of the picture are climbing branches with blue and white flowers in them, with two birds sat on top. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~ THE BACK The back of this 12 page book is the same light blue as the front. There is an oval a lot smaller than the front with a picture of a baby, smiling. The baby is dressed in white, led on a white cushion. Above the oval ...

John Lewis Bath Chair 23/05/2005

John Lewis Baby Bath Seat.

John Lewis Bath Chair John Lewis Baby Bath Seat. I had been looking for a decent bath seat for my son when he was a new born. Being a first time mum I was extremely nervous about bathing him on my own. I coped for a while with the help of my mum, but I was in desperate need of a baby bath. I needed something light, easy to use and stable. After trying two bath seats which were a complete disaster, I found the answer to my prayers. I came across the John Lewis bath seat on the internet, but wasn't sure about it as it didn't look very good. But, after reading the benefits, I changed my mind and bought it. I thought £11.99 was pretty good for a bath seat. I wish I had found the seat earlier because Kane loves it. He likes the freedom of splashing with his hands and legs. He was in the seat at 6 weeks old, as I was going through a variety of seats before I found this one. Otherwise I'd have had him in it to begin with. I recommend it highly to anyone who is looking for a bath seat suitable from birth. ~~~~THE PRODUCT~~~~ The seat is very plain so there's not much to explain except that it's white, plastic and has two suckers on the bottom that apply the seat to the 'big bath'. It is suitable from birth, is set in a semi reclined position and baby fits into the moulded shape. The seat is non slip so baby can't fall out, and it gives you the benefit of having two hands free to play and bath baby. Because the seat is plastic, it is very easy to clean. ~~~PACKAGING~~~ As I ordered this ...

Graco Baby Walker 17/05/2005

The Graco Walker with Play Tray

Graco Baby Walker Ever since my little boy has been about 4 months old, I could tell that he is strong on his legs. He wasn't even sitting up but I decided to buy a walker. After purchasing the Graco Travel System, which was a great buy (£130 from ToysRus), I decided on buying the Graco Deluxe Walker, complete with play tray. Although I knew he wouldn't be using it straight away, I figured at least its there for when he is a little bigger. PACKAGING I bought the walker from ToysRus for £30. It comes flat pack so knew there would be some assembly required. I needn't have worried though. After checking that everything was there, my mum (brains in the family) began reading the leaflet. Almost immediately she was at work. The instructions leaflet was very easy to follow. It was mainly pictures that showed what goes where. It took her less than 10 minutes to put together. THE WALKER The walker itself is blue, but could be used by both boys and girls. The base is made of strong sturdy plastic, with eight swivel wheels attached; three down either side and one at the front, one at the back. It's quite a big base really which could make it difficult to get through many doorways. The best part about the base of the walker, is that if baby bumps into anything, it wouldn't do any damage to the walker or to the furniture. There is four white bars which attached the top and play tray to the base. These are made of metal but covered in plastic, making it safer. These bars allow the walker to fold ...

Everything About My Dad 16/05/2005

The Biological Father

Everything About My Dad This is my story which was inspired to me by ejb2004. Although our stories are different, her review appealed to me a lot. This is the first time I've opened up properly about all this. I may be off on a few points during this review though, as it all started when I was a baby, and I don't really like asking my mum about things that happened. My mum bought the house I am now living in when she was 19. She was working at a huge well known factory in our town named Horrockses, with my Nan and my aunties. One night my mum went out with my granddad down to his local and was introduced to a young man, whose name I won't reveal. That night he took her to the chip shop then walked her home. From then on they were a couple. They married in 1980. I came long in 1982, my mum was 22. Things for rosy for a while. Mum has told me stories of how my dad would freak at the sight of spiders and how they were on a little boat somewhere and they were chilling in the sun. Mum started telling him there was a boat behind him heading for them, but he thought she was messing so he ignored it. Until, he finally turned round and a big boat really was heading for them. She was laughing when she was telling how his arms were flapping and his legs were everywhere trying to row away from this boat. But then, things turned sour. My dad started staying out longer. My mum tells me stories now as I can't remember them. I was only a baby. She told me how she was going out with her mates for her ...

10 Things a Person Needs to Do/Not to Do to Have a Successful Date With Me 09/05/2005

Perfect Date?

10 Things a Person Needs to Do/Not to Do to Have a Successful Date With Me ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A lot of people who know me would probably tell you that I'm a picky kinda girl… maybe I am, I dunno! I know for a fact that I get bored easily, so the best think for any man to do, is always keep me entertained, keep me guessing whats going to happen next… DO… ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1 …make me laugh. I like men to tell me jokes that are funny. There's nothing worse than going on a date with a lad that tells a joke that isn't funny, and there's only him that laughs at it. The bloke has gotta be entertaining in his own right. Not too much over the top, but to keep me listening. They can tell me stories of their childhood, old flames (I don't really mind that, to an extent), things he did while he was drunk. There's allsorts. 2 …talk!! A bad date is when a couple are out and they find they've nothing to talk about. If that happened to me, I'd say I'm off to the loo, ring a friend and get her to ring me in the next 5 minutes. Then I can make my excuses and leave. I'd never just walk out on a date. It wouldn't be nice and I wouldn't like it if someone did it to me. I feel sorry for those couples who are sat bored. Why do it? It's a waste of a night if you ask me. 3 …compliment me. Come on, every girl likes to be complimented. Imagine me sitting in front of the mirror for hours before the date, ...

The Secret Dreamworld of a Shoppaholic - Sophie Kinsella 04/05/2005

The Secret Dreamworld Of A Shopaholic

The Secret Dreamworld of a Shoppaholic - Sophie Kinsella THE SECRET DREAMWORLD OF A SHOPAHOLIC By Sophie Kinsella Price: £6.99 Front Cover: The book is pale pink in colour, and has the words "The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic" in bright pink letters. The author's name, Sophie Kinsella, is written below in capital in a blue/grey colour. Below that are the words, "When the going gets tough - the tough go shopping…" At the top of the cover is a cartoon type drawing of shopping bags all different bright colours. This cover is very eye catching. When I saw it in Asda I didn't even read the back. The back of the book is the same pale pink with the same brightly coloured bags at the top. The blurb doesn't give too much of the book away but enough for you to want to read it. At the bottom there is the barcode and the UK price which was £6.99. Also it says that the cover was illustrated by Felicity Smith. I could tell that by the cover it was intentionally for girls in their late teens or even young women in the 20's. My mum even read this and she thoroughly enjoyed it. It is the type of book you just can't put down. This is the first book of four up to date. Once I found out there were more books in the sequence I had to buy them all. And up to now, as far as I know, there hasn't been a shopaholic book that I haven't bought. I hope you really enjoy reading this review. The book is fantastic, Sophie uses the best form of humour. You end up giggling whilst reading. I will do another review for the second shopaholic book, then ...

10 Best Actresses 22/03/2005

Top Ten Actresses

10 Best Actresses OK, before I begin, I made a mistake with my ‘TopTen Actors’ review. A few people wanted to know why I hadn’t put in the likes of Robert DeNiro and the other hot shots. Well, I’m not a huge fan of those kind of actors. I’m not a fan of gangster films, or anything like that. So, with this review, please take into account that I am only 22, and I do not know any of the fantastic actresses like Audrey Hepburn etc. It's my unique opinion, so, here are MY top ten favourite actresses. Hope you enjoy! 10. DAME JULIE ANDREWS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ Dame Julie Andrews was born on 1st October in 1935, in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, England. She was born ‘Julia Elizabeth Wells’, and made her debut on Broadway in 1954, aged 19. Before this, she performed in music halls until her teens, with her beautiful 4 octave singing voice. Julie worked mainly in television until the 60’s when her career took at turn for the better when she appeared her first successful film, Mary Poppins in 1964, for which she won an Oscar. Later, she went onto star in ‘The Sound of Music’ in 1965. I like Julie Andrews a lot, although I haven’t seen many of her films, but I watched recently a documentary on her life. I think she is amazing, and looks so good for her age!! I hope I look that good. I watched her in the film ‘The Princess Diaries’ and I couldn’t believe how well she looked. 9. SANDRA BULLOCK ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Sandra Annette Bullock was born on 26th July in 1964, in Arlington, ...

10 Best Actors 22/02/2005

Top Ten Actors

10 Best Actors I was looking through ‘Ciao Café’ when I came cross reviews to write on my top ten actors. Hope you enjoy. At Number 10… ~~~STEVE MARTIN~~~ Steve Martin was born on 14th August in 1945 and grew up in Texas, USA. He studied philosophy at California State University at Long Beach, and for a while, considered becoming a philosophy professor instead of an actor-comedian. He is an accomplished banjo player and appears playing the instrument in Earl Scruggs and Friends video for "Foggy Mountain Breakdown", for which he won a Grammy for Best Country Instrumental Performance. He was liked for his work in ‘The Jerk’ (1979), and was considered for the role in ‘Eyes Wide Shut’, which was later given to Tom Cruise. My favourite Steve Martin films are ‘Cheaper by the Dozen’, ‘Bringing Down the House’, ‘Bowfinger’, ‘Father of the Bride 1 & 2’and ‘Little Shop of Horrors’. In ‘Cheaper by the Dozen’ he plays Tom Baker, along side Hilary Duff as daughter Lorraine Baker. I found this film really funny, it’s full of mishap and mayhem. A real fun one for the kids! At Number 9… ~~~TOM HANKS~~~ Thomas J Hanks was born on 9th July in 1956 in California, USA, although he moved around a lot in his childhood staying will different step-families. His acting career started when he went downtown for an audition. He had no acting experience under his belt at all. The director of that certain play he auditioned for invited him to Cleveland where his career kick-started. He has four ...

Everything that starts with E ... 12/02/2005

A - Z of HeartOfGold

Everything that starts with E ... A is for ACNE. Unfortunately, like many others, I have terrible acne when I was at school. The worst thing I did, which I didn’t know I was doing at the time, was covering myself with foundation to cover the spots. Little did I know that was the worst thing to do! I tried every. Spot creams the lot. Nothing worked, but thankfully as my teens came to an end, the bad acne finally disappeared and I haven’t been bothered with it since. Yay! B is for BED. I love my bed. I could stay in it for a lifetime. It’s got a soft mattress, but I’m fussy so I put a quilt under my sheet as well for extra comfort. I’m extremely fussy about who enters my bed too. C is for CANCER. I don’t really like talking about this, but it effects me so much. In 1998 my uncle was diagnosed with throat cancer. He died in 1999, in his early 40’s. We thought that was the end of it until 2003 when my cousin (his son) was diagnosed with testicular cancer. It spread to his lungs in the space of a month. In November 2004 he died aged just 22. We were very close, there was just 5weeks between and it feels strange him not being around. Then earlier this year, my other cousin had a cancer scare when he found a lump in his neck. Thankfully, specialists discovered it was just a build up of tissue. Cancer has affected my family and I really wish that one day soon, they’d find a cure. D is for DUMB. This song by The 411 is one of my favourites, although it took me ages to learn the words! E is for EGGS. I like ...
