Nuxe Creme Prodigieuse Anti-Fatigue Moisturizing Cream 26/11/2017

Another great product from my favourite brand

Nuxe Creme Prodigieuse Anti-Fatigue Moisturizing Cream What They Claim Nuxe are one of my favourite skincare brands (which you will know if you’ve seen my reviews before!) I love how the brand utilise both nature and science to create innovative products that just work. The Crème Prodigieuse range is marketing as being anti-stress which translates to mean that this range contains ingredients designed to combat oxidative stress and protect from the signs of ageing. This moisturising cream contains Blue Everlasting Flower extract which is packed with anti-oxidants. This non-greasy cream is designed to moisturise, revive and protect as well as mattify the skin. My Opinion Packaging The entire Nuxe range has a nice consistency to the packaging designs. All the products are similarly packaged but with different accent colours depending on the range, I like how sleek and considered this makes the range seem. It certainly gives the products a high-end feel. The crème prodigieuse range is accented in a purple colour which I am guessing reflects the key ingredient of Blue Everlasting Flower. As Nuxe is a French pharmacy brand the packaging contains information in both French and English. The product is supplied in a matte white tube with a screw top lid. To dispense the product you simply squeeze the tube. I like this design as it’s hygienic, however I would prefer a flip top lid rather than a screw top (11 week old baby means I prefer things to be easy to do with one hand!). I really like the matte tube as it gives it a premium ...

Peter Thomas Roth Mega Rich Conditioner 04/10/2017

Mega effective conditioner for the Mega Rich!

Peter Thomas Roth Mega Rich Conditioner What They Claim Peter Thomas Roth created this company to combat his own personal skincare issues. The company make over 100 products but are primarily a skincare company. The company aim to provide ‘Breakthrough formulas. Astonishing results’ and Peter himself is responsible for developing the formulas in his own laboratory. This Mega Rich Conditioner aims to leave hair soft, smooth and smelling great. The vitamin infused formula includes ‘Biotin B-7 Complex’ alongside vitamin C, E and Pro Vitamin B5. My Opinion Packaging The conditioner is supplied in a dark green tube that stands on a flip top lid. The product is from a premium brand and yet the packaging doesn’t seem to reflect this. Although the packaging is nice- it doesn’t scream premium, it’s quite basic looking. I like the flip top choice of packaging as it means the product is always sliding down towards the dispensing hole. This makes the product easier to get out, especially towards the end. As the tube is opaque you can’t easily see how much product you have left but I’ve found that by holding the tube towards the light you can see a vague outline of where the product is. As with all flexible plastic tubes I cut it open when finished as there is usually 2-3 applications clinging to the side of the bottle. Product The conditioner is a standard white colour and again appears basic. The area where the product does seem premium is the scent. It’s heavy fragrance is evident as soon as you flip the lid. It ...

Soap & Glory Thick and Fast Mascara Superjet Black 07/08/2017

It dries out 'Thick and Fast'!

Soap & Glory Thick and Fast Mascara Superjet Black What They Claim Soap and Glory began as a company that primarily produced bath and body products. The UK based company has expanded over recent years to include high quality skincare and a wide range of cosmetics. Their ‘Thick & Fast Super Volume Mascara’ features a whole host of unique formulas such as SUPERFILL to aid volume and length, SHINE AMPLIFIERS for shine and NOFLAKE24 to prevent flaking. My Opinion Packaging The product is supplied in quite a thick and chunky black tube. It has the standard screw opening and the mascara wand is attached to this. The branding and product name is printed in pink onto the tube. Further information such as use by, contact details etc. are on a sticker attached to the lid. I don’t like the use of stickers on cosmetic products as I find they get grubby really easily. I received this product in a gift set and so it wasn’t in any external packaging but when bought separately it is supplied in the signature Soap and Glory retro style packaging. The mascara is only supplied in one colour, Superjet Black. Product My first impression is that the wand is quite clunky and it drags as it exits the tube, this works well to remove excess product but as time goes on it gets harder to remove the wand as the scraped product collects around the rim and hardens. This makes the tube look grubby. The wand is quite clumsy to handle. It’s thickness makes it hard to apply neatly and I find it impossible to apply to lower lashes. The mascara ...

Soap & Glory Heel Genius 20/07/2017

Better than a pedicure?

Soap & Glory Heel Genius What They Claim Soap and Glory are a quirky UK based company that aim to inject a bit of fun and frivolity into your daily beauty routine. Initially a predominately bath and body company the brand has expanded to include a wide variety of cosmetics and skincare alongside their now iconic bath and body range. Heel Genius is a foot care product aimed at ‘renovating’ rough feet and cuticles. The product contains various nourishing ingredients such as glycerine and macadamia oil alongside smoothing and revitalising ingredients like menthol and citrus fruit acids. The brand invite you to put the question ‘better than a pedicure?’ to the test. My Opinion I got bitten by the Soap & Glory bug many Christmases ago when Boots launched their annual ‘offer of the week’ which is essentially a giant box of Soap & Glory goodies at an exceptionally low price. This was around 6 years ago and involved getting up at the crack of dawn to wait outside my local Boots so I could get my mitts on a box before they inevitably sold out. In recent years I have been less enthused by the contents and the price has been less and less enticing. I think this is reflected in the fact that they are usually still in stock several days after launch. That said I do still like the brand and some of their products remain my favourites. Packaging It’s pink! If you’re familiar with the brand you will know that their bath and body range tend to be very pink and with a quirky vintage feel. This product is no ...

Lush Snow Fairy 04/07/2017

It's a snow from me!

Lush Snow Fairy What They Claim Lush are a UK based company that has grown from it’s small origins in Poole to become a global brand that has reached cult status. Fans of the brand tend to ‘collect’ products and there is a culture of ‘got to try them all’. I myself took part in this phenomenon in the early days but due to the companies rising prices and ever expanding product range I’ve had to take a step back from my Lush obsession but I allow myself to indulge in the odd treat and often receive Lush products as gifts. Snow Fairy is a regular annual release that arrives in time for the festive season. Lush often do limited editions at special times of the year but Snow Fairy is the one that keeps coming back again and again. It’s an iconic product that Lush describe as their ‘candy floss scented favourite’. It contains nourishing carrageenan seaweed extract for moisture and a sprinkle of glitter to get you in the festive spirit. My Opinion Packaging This is one of Lush’s rare packaged products and is supplied in a standard bottle with a flip top lid. It is noted on the packaging that you may return the lids instore. Aesthetically, the packaging is unmistakeably ‘Lush’. It has the signature chalkboard style writing but on a pink background rather than the black that is usually used for Lush shower gels. The bottle contains all the necessary information such as ingredients and directions for use. It also has a sticker telling you who made the product and when it needs to be used by. As ...

Elemis Skin Solutions Hydra-Boost Day Cream 21/06/2017

A lovely product but not impressive enough to warrant the cost.

Elemis Skin Solutions Hydra-Boost Day Cream What They Claim Elemis are a British company that specialise in premium salon quality products. Their range of products has been designed to combine nature, science and aromatics with the ultimate aim of creating highly effective products. Many of the Elemis range are beauty award winners and the brand is highly rated, particularly when it comes to skincare. This Hydra-boost day cream aims to nourish skin and provide continuous hydration and moisture for normal to dry skin types. Organic Myrtle and Vitamin E provide protection from free radicals, Hyaluronic Acid is included to lock in moisture and Marsh Samphire and Starflower Oil are used to strengthen the skins natural moisture barrier. Elemis claim continued use of this product will leave skin nourished, smooth and supple. My Opinion Please Note: I am reviewing the travel size product. Packaging The moisturiser comes in a squeezy tube that stands on a screw top lid. This is my favourite method of packaging for moisturisers as it is the most hygienic and allows the product to fall towards the opening, meaning you can get most out by squeezing the tube. I would advise you to cut open the tube when you think you have no product left as I found at least 2-3 applications around the walls of the tube. The packaging is clean and clear and fits with Elemis’ being a salon brand. The design is simple and effective and all the information is clearly presented and easy to read. The choice to keep the tube white, all of the ...

Pixi Flawless & Poreless Primer 07/06/2017

The primer that beats all primers!

Pixi Flawless & Poreless Primer What they Claim Pixi Beauty has been going strong for over 10 years. Created by busy entrepreneur, mother and makeup artist Petra Strand, the company aims to create products that ‘bring out the natural beauty in all women’. The company use ‘innovative formulations that are fused with botanicals and beneficial ingredients’ to create ‘pure, awakening and skin loving products’. The Flawless and Poreless Skin Primer has been created to provide ‘a seamless, silky canvas with a beautiful no-shine, cashmere finish’. It combines ingredients such as Willow Bark, Salicylic Acid and Enantia Chlorantha bark with Shea Butter and Titanium Dioxide to create skin that’s shine-free, clean and clear yet protected and nourished. It’s oil-free and hypoallergenic formula is suitable for all skin types. My Opinion Packaging I find that Pixi products tend to be supplied in simplistic packaging and this is no exception, it is supplied in a pale pastel green tube that stands on its screw top opening. This means the product is always tilted downwards and is therefore easy to get out, even when you get to the end. I like the use of the on-trend rose gold colouring for their branding. The Pixi range is easy to identify. The product I’m reviewing is the 12ml travel size version and the reverse of the packaging contains information such as ingredients, contact details and shelf life, all of which are easy to read despite the small tube size. A full size product is supplied in 30ml ...

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara 11/05/2017

Urban Decay have produced the perfect true BLACK mascara.

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara What They Claim Urban Decay are a make up brand ‘designed for makeup junkies by makeup junkies’. Founder, Wende Zomnir created the brand in the mid-90s to bring colour and self expression to a ‘beige’ cosmetics market. The brands tagline, ‘beauty with an edge’ has stood the test of time and the company are now synonymous with bold, bright colours and high performance products. Ironically the brand is now famous for their ‘naked’ product range which seems to directly contradict the company’s original ‘challenge beige’ ethos. Interesting. The perversion mascara has been one of the companies best selling products and has been awarded icon status by the brand. The mascara claims to ‘glide effortlessly through lashes to build, separate and define’. The ‘high tech’ brush can be used to build layers of intense black volume to create a ‘wide-eyed look’. My Opinion Packaging Urban Decay began as quite a grungy/punk style makeup brand and this products packaging fits within that ethos despite being included in the Naked On The Run Palette. The cylindrical tube is a metallic purple and feels cool to the touch and is distinctly heavier than most mascaras. It almost feels as if it’s metal and it’s bold shine further enhances that. The application is as with most mascaras and features the wand attached to the screw top lid. The lid is easy to open and the brush doesn’t need to be dragged out of the tube meaning it keeps it’s shape and you don’t lose too much product when removing the ...

Philips Visapure Facial Cleansing Brush 01/05/2017

A 5* product if you're shelling out for a cleansing brush.

Philips Visapure Facial Cleansing Brush Disclaimer: I received this product free of charge in order to test and review it. The fact that this product was free has not influenced my opinions on the products effectiveness and therefore this review is a true representation of my opinions on the Philips VisaPure The first thing that struck me about the Philips VisaPure was how well packaged it was. The product comes in a sturdy box that is easy to open and provides adequate protection for the product and all it's parts. The packaging definitely appeals to me as I do a lot of shopping online and I appreciate quality packaging as I hate items to arrive damaged. The product is nicely presented with each part securely and individually packaged, this keeps the parts such as the facial brush attachments clean and hygienic. The packaging represents clinical, clean professionalism alongside appealing images and plenty of information meaning it is appealing to the consumer and instantly made me feel that this is a good quality, well thought out product and I felt safe to use it. The product itself is very easy to use and the instructions provided are very clear. The user manual is very comprehensive and easily ensures correct use of the product. The pictorial quick start guide is very handy to look at if you need a gentle reminder on what to do, I liked this as it prevented me from having to read through the more in depth information again for just a snippet of information. The main parts to the device are the 'handle' and ...

Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser all skin types 09/04/2017

Lovely, effective product but too pricey unless on offer.

Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser all skin types What They Claim Clarins claim that this cream cleanser is as ‘effective as soap and as mild as cream’. This cleanser enriched with cottonseed aims to ‘respect and preserve the skin’s natural moisture balance’ meaning that normal/combination skin is left ‘perfectly cleansed, softened and radiant’. The product claims to ‘eliminate impurities, make-up and excess oil’. My first encounter with this product was as a free sample following a free skincare consultation. If you're interested in premium skincare and would like to try something before you buy Clarins are very good at offering advice and samples and in my experience I haven't found them to be too pushy to sell, but this very much depends on who you get. I tried this product as a sample and enjoyed it so much I bought a full size version online via My Opinion Packaging Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser is plainly packaged and has a clinical look that is common with premium skincare brands. The information on the product is limited and is written in the signature Clarins red colour. The product comes in a cardboard box that mirrors the design of the product. Clean looking with red accents, both the product and the tube are easily identifiable as belonging to the Clarins brand. Further information such as ingredients, safety notices and instructions for use can be found on a leaflet included in the product box. The squeezy tube sits on it's flip top lid for easy dispensing. The tube is an opaque white ...

Limitless(DVD) 15/01/2017

My adoration for this film is Limitless!

Limitless(DVD) Limitless [15] Released:2011, Run time:105 minutes, Genre: Sci-fi, Action, Thriller. Film only review. Plot Synopsis Eddie Morra (Bradley Cooper) is an apparently talented writer. If only his brain knew that. Faced with a looming deadline, an agitated publisher and a severe case of writers block the down and out Eddie roams the streets looking for inspiration and he finds the form of NZT, a new drug that promises the world but this isn't your average drug, this drug allows you to access the entirety of your own mind, remember every detail you ever subconsciously absorbed and recall it all at the right moment. It is everything you're ever wanted in pill form and it can clear writers block like paracetamol clears a headache. Fancy a go? The Review I sat down to watch this film rather reluctantly, a friend had recommended it to us and my partner had been really keen to watch it and as it was his turn to choose the film I had no choice what was on the television. I decided to do some work whilst the t.v was on in the background. I soon put the work down because this film had me interested from the opening scene. It is one of those films where you are thrown right into the action, the opening scene is actually one of the later scenes and it's a good one. Straight away I was upright and paying attention. The film then goes back to the beginning, revealing how the character of Eddie (Bradley Cooper) got into this predicament. The film is narrated by Eddie, he is telling ...

Elizabeth Arden Prevage Anti Ageing & Intensive Repair Daily Serum 07/01/2017

The worst yet most expensive skincare product I've ever tried!

Elizabeth Arden Prevage Anti Ageing & Intensive Repair Daily Serum What They Claim Elizabeth Arden created the Prevage anti-aging skincare line to ‘turn back the face of time’. The range is aimed at those wishing to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This daily serum uses a idebenone antioxidant formula that claims to ‘provide outstanding and long lasting results’. The product contains a whole host of unpronounceable ingredients including Arazine, BoNT-L Peptide and Organic Silicon Derivatives which collectively combine to create a product that improves skin texture and tone, boosts radiance and reduces inflammation. The serum aims to target wrinkles, scars, redness, sun damage and age spots. The company claim that the product has an intelligent formula that enables skin to release protective and corrective benefits where needed. My Opinion Packaging: I am reviewing a 5ml size product sample. This is supplied in a sleek silver bottle with a screw top lid that opens to reveal a pipette style dispenser. The product is easy to dispense and in this instance the product slowly drips from the pipette without needing any pressure. This maybe different to the full size product. I am not very impressed by the sample size packaging. It seems dull and doesn’t look very premium. Product: The physical appearance of this serum is unlike any I’ve seen before. It is golden and glittery and the texture is light and slippery. I would say that it has a fluid, greasy texture and the glitter is very off putting. It resembles a cheap body ...

Bourjois Cream Blush Rose Tender 29/11/2016

A perfectly pale pink for the palest of complexions.

Bourjois Cream Blush Rose Tender What They Claim Bourjois are a high street make up brand that originated in France. The company began by making makeup for theatre but over time they refined their product lines and formulas to create many iconic products. Some of the cult make up products have included the unique double ended Coup de Theatre mascara (that I loved!) and the iconic little round pot collection. This Cream Blush uses Bourjois’ cream to powder technology to produce an ‘irresistibly blendable texture’. The addition of Poppy extract claims to make this ‘long lasting seamless colour’ comfortable to wear. This review specifically relates to 03 Rose Tender. My Opinion Packaging: The packaging for this product mimics the classic little round pot design that is synonymous with the Bourjois brand. The pink plastic pot clips open to reveal the product neatly presented in the pan. The colour of the packaging reflects the colour of the product, in this case that is a pale Rose pink with a slight shimmer. The flip open lid houses a mirror that fills the entire lid and is therefore quite a reasonable size. You can apply the product using the inbuilt mirror with ease. The lid is sturdy and survives many uses without losing it’s ability to close securely. It’s a perfectly made product for travel as the sturdy packaging and cream formula means it’s unlikely to break like a powder would. In Use: The blush is very soft and silky to the touch. It isn’t a hard cream texture, it is very delicate and easy to ...

This is the End (DVD/Blu-Ray) 16/11/2016

A star studded comedy on an apocalyptic scale.

This is the End (DVD/Blu-Ray) This is The End [15] Released: 2013, Run Time: 107 minutes, Genre: Comedy, Fantasy Film only review. Plot Synopsis There is a party going off in the Hollywood hills and all of America’s hottest comedy stars are invited. James Franco is hosting and anyone who’s anyone will be there. From the cool Seth Rogen to the genteel Jonah Hill (what do you mean you don’t know the difference?), from the eager Michael Cera to the reluctant Jay Baruchel. Even Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) is going. What’s the worst that could happen? I don’t know...maybe the Apocalypse perhaps? My Opinion First things first, you won’t have seen a film like this before. Yes, you’ve seen comedy actors making cameo appearances before. Yes, you’ve seen a ridiculous apocalypse movie and yes, you’ve seen James Franco acting like he’s stoned. But all in one film? I don’t think so. This film has been a true revelation for me. I expected it to irritate me but it has inadvertently become one of my favourite films and is the funniest thing I have seen in a LONG time. Just thinking about it now makes me chuckle. I genuinely loved it. The basic premise is that all of Hollywood’s finest are at James Franco’s house for a party when the apocalypse begins. Hell is raining fire on the whole of LA, craters open that swallow houses and homes and even the richest of celebrities can’t escape sudden and instant death. It’s a ridiculous plot line, the acting is exaggerated and it isn’t in the slightest bit believable but ...

L'Occitane Shea Butter Foot Cream 02/11/2016

Shea Butter?- A step in the right direction for footcare.

L'Occitane Shea Butter Foot Cream What They Claim L’occitane are a French company that pride themselves on creating high quality cosmetic products using the finest quality, sustainably sourced ingredients. Their Shea range is highly regarded as being one of the best. This award winning foot cream has been accredited by the highly regarded Beauty Bible and contains 15% Shea butter that is fairly traded from Burkina Faso. This incredibly rich foot cream aims to ‘moisturise and relieve irritated and tired feet’. My Opinion Packaging I love the packaging design of this product. The labelling is clear and understated with a hint of vintage apothecary about it. I like that the cream comes in a metal tube rather than a plastic one and that the product has a flat top lid meaning you can stand the product on the lid to enable the product to collect at the opening . The tube is easy to manipulate so the product is easy to get out. It is a really attractive product and looks great on any dressing table. Product The cream itself is a wonderfully rich, thick cream that is not only packed with incredibly moisturising Shea Butter but also includes purifying Lavender oil and calming arnica. The product has an authentic Lavender scent that is instantly relaxing. Think fresh from the fields, not grannies stale pot pourri. The lotion is off white in colour and rich and creamy in texture. Its viscosity provides an excellent massage medium. It is best left to absorb for a while and so it makes a wonderful overnight ...
