And Justice For All - Metallica 07/08/2005

Metallica's last thrash record

And Justice For All - Metallica GENERAL INFO And Justice for all or AJFA as it often known was metallica's 4th album and their last thrash album before the commercial metal self entitled album metallica. This album is the first metallica studio record (not including the garage days E.P) with Jason Newsted who joined the band after bands ex bassist Cliff Burton (R.I.P) died in an tragic bus accident in 1986 while the band was on tour in sweden. FIRST IMPRESSIONS My first impression was the cover art which i thought was a really cool concept and portrayed the material on the album really well. When i first listened to this album my favourite songs were Blackened, One, Dyers Eve and To live is to die. On a negative note the sound quality wasnt great. TRACK BY TRACK REVIEW 1. Blackened This song was a great intro to the album and is one of metallica's fastest tunes. Its been used to open up concerts on several tours including the latest tour "Madly in in Anger with the World" I love the drumming in this song which like many other songs on this album has some of the best double kick lars ulrich can cook up. The song is about the world being destroyed by Nuclear weapons and has some very emotional lyrics. 2. ......And Justice For All AJFA is (if im not mistaken, correct me if i am) Metallica's longest song. It is one of the most emotional and angry metallica songs (excluding stuff from the new album). The song is about how theres no justice and its all about money (well duh). The only disadvantage ...

Master Of Puppets - Metallica 07/08/2005

Metallica at its best

Master Of Puppets - Metallica This album was the third album metallica released and is considered to be the record that really "put metallica on the map" as one of americas best metal band. Master was my first metallica album and the one that got me addicted. From then on metallica pulled my strings (mind the cheesy pun:D). Before i got this album i wasnt a fan of thrash metal but this album really kicked me in the ass and showed me that theres more than Linkin Park and Slipknot out there to listen to. The first track Battery is one of metallica's fastest and aggressive songs and is still a key part of the bands live set almost 20 years on! It begins with a melodic Spanish Guitar intro, which is if im not mistaken the first time metallica used acoustic guitars on a record and then launches into what is now known as one of metals most famous riffs. The song goes half time in the middle before launching into a mental solo from Kirk "the ripper" Hammet. The next track (and the title track) master of puppets is one of the most famous metallica songs ever, the opening duh.....duh duh duh" is probably one of the most recognised riffs today and this song has been played live nearly every night since. The song can be read on 2 levels, either from a drug addicts point of view and how the drug has become its "master" or as an anti-war song about how governments are leading soldiers to their deaths (hence the cover art). The next track The Thing That Should Not Be is based on the H.P Lovecraft book ...

Rust in Peace - Megadeth 07/08/2005

A must have for ANY metal fan

Rust in Peace - Megadeth This album is probably the best album Megadeth have ever released, if not one of the best metal albums ever released. The title track "Rust in Peace.....polaris" is about nuclear weapons but the album material ranges Holy Wars to military cover-ups of the roswell conspiracies. When i first brought the album the first song that stood out to me was take no prisoners, mainly because of the impressive drumming and the aggressive lyrics. The re-issue also includes 3 demos and previously un-released "My Creation" which is well worth a listen. My favourite tracks on the album are Holy Wars, Rust in Peace.......Polaris and Hangar 18 prequel to the song Return to hangar. I would recommend this album to anyone who is a fan of other rock and metal music who is interested in getting into some Megadeth. Also if you enjoy this album i reccomend "Peace Sells....But Whos Buying" or "So Far, So Good...........So What??"

Metallica - S And M (DVD) 28/06/2005

S&M first of its kind

Metallica - S And M (DVD) S&M is a groundbreaking album, no band has ever tried working with an orchestra on this scale before and the results are incredible. As shown on the DVD documentary it was an experiment and nobody was sure how it would go till the night of the performance. The album has a good variety of songs from ride the lightning through to re-load, from old classics such as master of puppets and One through to newer songs like Hero of the day and memory remains. Whatever aspect of metallica you enjoy there is something for everyone on this album, tunes like "the thing that should not be" and "for whom the bell tolls" for the old school fans, "enter sandman" and "fuel" for the more commercial fans or epic ballads like "outlaw torn" and "bleeding me" for the fans of metallicas slower side. The album also includes two amazing previously unreleased songs - "no leaf clover" and "minus human". On the more negative hand i think the album is lacking a song from the first album kill em all. It is also rather expensive for an album even though it is a double disc. It would also have been interesting to hear Fade to Black and Orion. I would reccomend this album to any metal fan looking for something new and different.
