Id - Paul Craig 02/07/2012

Read Forwards to go Back...

Id - Paul Craig Id - Kindle Edition ID by Paul Craig is not the sort of book I would usually go for. Had it not been for the author following me on Twitter I probably would never have known about it. The day I downloaded it, it happened to be free but now it will cost 77p to download from Amazon. Once I had finished reading it I was straight on Twitter asking the author for more, I needed the story to continue because there was so much more I wanted to know. I did have some reservations about reading this book and to be honest I wasn’t expecting much from it, however I feel the author has been very clever in the way he has chosen to write this book because the story is written backwards and at first I couldn’t figure out what was what but I found as I got to each new chapter everything fell into place from the beginning of the previous chapter and so on. It does sound confusing but once I was reading I knew exactly where I was with the story and I decided I really liked the way it which it was written, for some reason it made me want to read more to find out what happened that led up to the part I had already read. It made a change from wanting to know what would happen next in a story because instead it left me wanting to know what had happened before. ID is about a man who wants to remember who he is, he has lost his memory, but obviously doesn’t know why or how, he knows nothing about himself or his life he can’t even remember his own name. All he knows is the here and now and that ...

Guitar Rack - 5 Guitar Stand. 30/06/2012

Saving Space by Keeping them Together...

Guitar Rack - 5 Guitar Stand. Guitar Rack: 5 Guitar Stand Due to my son’s bedroom looking more like a guitar warehouse, I decided to buy this Guitar rack that holds up to five guitars, acoustic or electric or a mixture of both. My son currently has two acoustic and two electric guitars all of which fit nicely on this rack with enough room for another guitar, so they are correct in saying the stand is for five guitars. I mentioned this because you can never be too sure on the actual size of something until you have it built up in front of you, to be tested by yourself. However I personally think that five acoustics would struggle to fit on this rack, but a mixture of both works just fine. The guitar rack arrived in lots of bits that had to be assembled; these bits were lightweight steel tubes, sprayed black. instructions were included and all the bits I’d need to put it together, well I say all the bits when really it was missing a couple of the screws that were needed but I managed to compromise on the screws because some were not really needed in other places on the rack, which was lucky because some of the holes for the screws didn’t quite match up anyway. I could angle the rack to suit the guitars that it would be holding, both the base and the back could be tilted and the back raised if necessary to accommodate all the guitars. The base is foam padded protecting the bottom of the guitars as are the individual parts at the top of the rack which protects the top of the neck and headstocks of the ...

Paladone Guitar Novelty Pen 29/06/2012

Novelty Idea for a Guitar Fan

Paladone Guitar Novelty Pen Paladone Guitar Novelty Pen with Sound Effect Button With my son being guitar mad I decided to get this novelty pen for him as a stocking filler at Christmas. I actually found it by chance on EBay and it didn’t cost a lot. I have since seen them on Amazon for £4.15. This funky little pen is 24cm in length and at its widest point 9cm it is a ballpoint pen with a little button on the side which plays guitar sound effects. It is a plastic pen which resembles that of a Fender electric guitar. It isn’t the sort of pen you would use if you were intending on doing a lot of writing. I bought it as a bit of fun as I knew my son would love it. It’s not the best made pen in the world, but it does work and the sound effects are quite good too, although the button to switch on the sound effects is a little awkward to switch on at first, unless that was just us doing something wrong. What we think of the pen My son loved the pen as soon as he opened it, I could tell he was impressed with it by the look on his face. He insisted on getting the sound effects working and had a mess around with it for a while. When he started to use the pen to write with he said it was okay but a little awkward to keep hold of comfortably. I realise he wouldn’t be using it for any lengthy piece of work that he may have to write down, so I wasn’t too bothered that he wouldn’t be able to use it religiously. It was only bought as a bit of fun anyway. I myself find it very difficult to write with, but it just ...

Brabantia Cotton Ironing Board Cover 28/06/2012

If the Cover Fits...

Brabantia Cotton Ironing Board Cover “Brabantia Cotton Ironing Board Cover with 2mm Foam back, Size B, 124 x 38cm, Metallized Silver” I’d never heard of this company before I started looking for ironing board covers, but apparently their ironing board covers are supposed to be the “Bees Knees” so I decided to order a metallized silver. Size B which is 124cm by 38cm with 2mm foam back, ironing board cover. When I read the product title of the ironing board cover I was ordering, I couldn’t help but wonder why they couldn’t just call it what it so obviously was, “a Silver ironing board cover”, some companies make me laugh with the fancy words they use in a product title. Anyway I’ll get back to my super snazzy 100% cotton, metallized ironing board cover. These particular ironing board covers come in various different sizes, ranging from A being the smallest to E which is the largest. Now when it comes to having to measure something before I can order something it’s going to be connected to, you can guarantee I will get the measurements wrong, somehow I always manage it. On this occasion however I didn’t have much of a choice other than to order the one I did which was size B because the A size would have been way too small and the C far too big. But when the ironing board cover arrived I really had no idea how I was supposed to fit it on my ironing board. Now I know I’m making myself look stupid here but the thing was huge, I had to double check I’d ordered the right size. It was apparently right so I proceeded ...

Street shopping vs Online shopping, which is better? 27/06/2012

Easy Option for me....On-Line all the Way....

Street shopping vs Online shopping, which is better? Street shopping vs. Online shopping, which is better? Shopping is something we all have to do, some love it and some loathe it. If we chose not to shop at all, we would all most probably die out. In the days before the internet we had no choice but get up and go out in order to do our shopping, but technology has made it all so easy for us these days. We no longer have to leave the house in order to buy the things we want, these days we can buy whatever we like with the click of a button, we don’t even have to get dressed or wait for the shops to open. I think we have come a long way to be able to use a service such as this. But is it all good, shopping on-line? For the most part, yes it’s fantastic, for me personally anyway. I am so very lazy so if the opportunity for me to get what I want by means of clicking a button any time of the day or night is there, then I am not going to let that opportunity pass me by. I can honestly say that anytime we need or want something, the first thing I will say is… “I’ll look on Amazon” in fact anyone could bet money on me saying that because I always do. Then if by some slim chance I can’t find what I’m looking for, I will move onto the next on-line retailer and so it continues until I find whatever it is I’m looking for at the price I’m prepared to pay. I really can’t think of anything I’ve not been able to find on-line, okay so something things may prove trickier than others to find but I usually find what I’m looking for in the ...

Apple iPhone 3GS 32GB 19/06/2012

A Phone You've Just Got to Fiddle With...

Apple iPhone 3GS 32GB IPhone 3GS 32G When I got my iPod I was over the moon with it and still am. I never in a million years thought I’d ever get an iPhone, for a start the price of them is ridiculous to say the least, yes they may well be the best thing since sliced bread but really, the price of iPhones amazes me and what amazes me even more is that people actually fork out all that money just to get their hands on one. Now the only reason I have one is because my old phone (not a smartphone) lost the will to live, I guess I didn’t help it any by throwing it across the room because it never responded to me. So, I needed a new phone. There was no way I could afford a top of the range iPhone, in fact there was no way I could really afford an iPhone full stop. However I didn’t want just a normal phone again, I ended up hating my previous one. So I did what I always do when I can’t afford what I really want brand new and went to visit EBay. Where I got mine and what I got with it I bought my unlocked iPhone 3GS 32g used from EBay and it cost me £150.00 I was a little apprehensive about paying out a fair bit of money for something that could have ended up being a piece of junk. All I got with the phone was a black leather case, which I choose not to use. The things I would have got if I’d have bought new would have been a charger, a USB cable, earphones, possibly a few pretty stickers and a box. I didn’t need a charger, I have loads of USB cables, the earphones are useless anyway and why would I ...

Amazon Mobile UK (iPhone Application) 18/06/2012

Website in my Pocket :-)

Amazon Mobile UK (iPhone Application) Amazon iPhone App For me, Amazon and EBay come hand in hand so it goes without saying that if I downloaded the EBay App then I also downloaded this Amazon App as well. Having previously reviewed the EBay App, today I’ll tell you about the Amazon App. I downloaded this App from the App store in iTunes, it was free so I didn’t hesitate to get it downloaded and installed quickly, really simple process it’s just a case of clicking the mouse a few times and I’m away. As there are different Amazon stores Amazon.com etc. The one I have downloaded is of course Amazon.co.uk. At first I was invited to enter my account details so I would be able to access all my own information within the App, on doing this I was able to move freely around the App. I’m first greeted with the name Amazon.co.uk when I open the App. The welcome page has a search bar across the top and also recommendations for me. I also have the option to sign out if I choose. Along the bottom are five static things I can press these include: Home: This is the first page I arrive on when I open the App. Search: This opens up the keyboard along with a search bar at the top so I can type in anything I am looking for on Amazon.co.uk Basket: This I think is self-explanatory, I just bung all my shopping here as I go along. Wish List: This is where I can put all the things I’d like and will maybe buy at some time or other. More: This takes me to a page that has a list of things I may want to use whilst using the Amazon ...

eBay Mobile (iPhone Application) 17/06/2012

Never Miss Out on an Auction Again...

eBay Mobile (iPhone Application) EBay iPhone App Being a huge fan of both EBay and Amazon, I decided I would have to download both Apps. Today I'm going to tell you a little bit about the EBay App. I personally downloaded this App from the App store on iTunes, I'm not sure whether it is available on Android, but I would have thought it would be available for all. The App was free which is always a plus as far as I'm concerned. As with all Apps downloaded from the App store the installation is instantaneous, so no waiting around for long and because it's downloaded and installed in next to no time I was ready to open it up and enter my personal account details to enable me to get into my account, This is a really easy process and as soon as my details were entered I was on my way to finding my way around this handy little App. The first page I am greeted with is clearly marked with the three main things I want to see which are watching, buying and selling, these are set out at the top of the screen so at first glance I can see what's going on with them. Underneath these is a list of reminders, messages, saved and browse categories. Below this as I scroll down further is some further information which shows deals, recent items I've been browsing and finally at the bottom of the screen is my username, touching this takes me to my feedback scores. The App is really simple to navigate around and in my opinion works really well. Along the very bottom of the screen, which incidentally are always there no ...

Draw Something Application (Iphone, Android) 14/06/2012

Absolutely Drawsome...

Draw Something Application (Iphone, Android) Draw something I’ll apologise before I start because if you have read any of my iPhone App reviews you’ll know I can sometimes get a little carried away. I am after all somewhat addicted to these game Apps. This particular App I decided to download because it was free, however after playing for a short time I decided I had to upgrade to the paid for version, this meant no ads and more words so for 69p I freed myself from those annoying ads. The game itself is pretty basic and straight to the point, so much so that any age group would be comfortable playing it. The basic idea is to choose a word from a list of three, draw the word then send it off to your opponent for them to guess it correctly, win some coins and send you a drawing back and that’s it. All about Draw Something… When you begin the game you are invited to make an account which includes your username and email address. You can also connect to Facebook through this game but I don’t know much about that because I don’t use Facebook myself. I connected with my email address and that works well enough for me. I then was given the option to find players, I could look for players in several different ways which are, Email, Facebook friends or random. If I knew of anyone else with the game and knew their username I could also connect with them that way. Playing the game… Once connected with another player I was able to choose a word from the list of three, the easiest with word on the list is worth one coin, ...

Squier Affinity Strat RW 13/06/2012

A Decent Guitar...

Squier Affinity Strat RW Squire Affinity Series Stratocaster Following the disaster with the LP style electric guitar I had purchased for my son at Christmas, he really needed another one to continue with his playing, but money doesn’t grow on trees and I was finding it difficult to get the money together to buy yet another guitar. If it wasn’t for the fact he was doing so well with his playing, I would have made him wait. But as it happens we came to an agreement where he would pay for the guitar in instalments, he really wanted this new guitar and to be fair I wanted him to have it too, so I went ahead and bought him this Squire Affinity Series Stratocaster. This guitar did not come with any extras at all, I thought this was a good sign as the whole price of the guitar was purely for the guitar itself and not for little extras they throw in for the price, which in my opinion devalues the guitar itself. We found this particular guitar on the Nevada website it cost £155.00 reduced from £204 I think it was. My son had decided to stay clear of the LP style and instead opted for a Fender style. Which means I have to buy a case for it to fit into as the one he has is the wrong shape. The Squire Affinity Series Stratocaster my son chose really does look the part, although I personally still favour the LP style guitar, this one does look really nice. The one he chose has a black high gloss finish, with a glossy white scratch board, the maple neck and fret board look quite stunning complete with a ...

Stagg Basic Case for Les Paul Style Electric Guitar 12/06/2012

Basic on the outside, luxurious on the inside...

Stagg Basic Case for Les Paul Style Electric Guitar Basic Case for Les Paul Style Electric Guitar You may or may not have read my review of the Rock burn LP Style Electric Guitar Pack that I wrote but the product I am about to review is the hard case I bought especially for that guitar. When my son got his electric guitar at Christmas, although problems did occur with the guitar, it was still useable when I decided to purchase this case for him to transport it from one place to another. This case is solid, extremely tough and durable. It is black in colour with silver clips on one side which hold the case closed, there are four big clips one of which has a little lock, to ensure the case isn't going to just fly open. 2 keys are provided so if you lose one you have a spare. The handle is quite tough plastic and very sturdy, and at the bottom of the case are four big silver studs on which to stand the case upright, and three silver studs on the bottom of the base so it can be laid down with-out getting damaged. Inside the case is lovely, it's black fur fabric, it feels and looks really nice, both the inside of the base of the case and the lid are lined with this fabric giving it a very luxurious feel and look. Three little hinges hold the lid to the base and at the bottom of the case, the widest part, there is a piece of webbing holding the lid to the base so that the lid doesn't open all the way back, it just opens to a standing straight up position. The case is specifically shaped for a Les Paul style guitar so a Fender ...

Rockburn LP Style Electric Guitar Pack 11/06/2012

Beauty was only skin deep...

Rockburn LP Style Electric Guitar Pack Rock burn LP Style Electric Guitar Pack After buying my son the Martin Smith acoustic guitar (Previously reviewed) for his birthday last year, I had promised that I would buy him an electric guitar for Christmas if he had learnt to play 10 individual songs/tunes by then. I didn’t expect him to do it as he had never even attempted to play anything on a guitar until his birthday which incidentally was September, so I had given a complete novice, the task of learning to play all these different songs in four months. Well he really showed me. He was determined and low and behold he played me 10 different songs on his acoustic guitar by the time I’d said. I was amazed at how well he had picked the whole learning to play the guitar thing up. He had taught himself everything from tuning to actually playing the chords. As promised, I bought him his first electric guitar for Christmas. We had sat together at the computer looking at different style guitars. He wanted a Les Paul but sadly the nearest thing he was going to get was a cheap copy, I’m not made of money. Anyway, he decided on this Rock burn LP Style Electric Guitar Pack. It included a 10watt amp and cables, a guitar strap, a spare set of strings, a couple of picks/plectrums and a tutorial DVD with on screen guitar tuner. I bought it from Argos although it was an online deal only. It cost about £144.00 including postage. However I see it’s now going for £112.00 with free postage, typical. What the guitar looks like The ...

Forever Is Over - Calvin Wade 05/06/2012

Forever is not always as long as we'd like...

Forever Is Over - Calvin Wade Forever is over I’ve decided to review one of the books I’ve recently finished reading on my kindle, it is also available in paperback, written by Calvin Wade who I have since had the pleasure of speaking to via Twitter, so I could let him briefly know what I thought of his book. Have you ever been involved in a love triangle? Well this book invites you right in, to a sort of love triangle, but not only does it invite you into the lives of the three concerned but to a whole range of other people who have lots of involvement with the three central characters. What I particularly liked is how the book is set out. At first I thought I would lose track and become confused but Calvin Wade has written this book in a way that makes it easy for the reader to keep up every step of the way with what’s happening to all concerned. Each chapter is from a different characters point of view, which for me was enjoyable as I found it easy to pick up where one character had left off. It works perfectly well and it’s so easy to see the situation from each and every angle. The story begins on a rather sad note and on reading the first chapter, I thought I was going to need tissues throughout, but this quickly changed as when the book started properly I was whisked back in time to when the three main characters were children. I loved this, as the age and times fit perfectly with what I personally could remember as a child and I could relate to so much of what I was reading. In places for me ...

PlaqueOff Animal 04/06/2012

Green Stuff...

PlaqueOff Animal Plaque off-animal Earlier this year I was looking for something that was going to aid me in keeping my dogs teeth and gums in good health. I found various different products in all different forms, like tablets, liquids, liquids to put in their drinking water…..the list was endless but I was not convinced that any of these products were going to live up to what they claimed. I was about to give up but spotted this plaque off for animals. After reading endless reviews about the product I decided although somewhat expensive in my opinion at around £8.00 for a 60g tub from Amazon, I would still give it a go. I thought so many positive reviews must mean it was going to do what it claimed to do. Not everyone could be wrong. So what exactly is it? Well, plaque off is basically seaweed in powdered form. To be totally specific it is actually, “especially selected seaweed from the Ascophyllum nodosum family”. I only know that because I read it off the tub. It claims to be 100% natural with nothing at all added. The idea of the product is to aid in keeping an animal’s breath fresh and to help maintain good oral health. Apparently the results of using for 3 to 6 weeks include a reduction in in the amount of tartar and plaque in the teeth and therefore a reduction in dental decay. Clinically proven and recommended by vets. The tub is much smaller than I was expecting, when I opened the tub I was greeted with the tiniest plastic scoop I’d ever seen. After eventually checking the ...

Philips SHS 3200 02/06/2012

Over-ear ear phones...Just not mine...

Philips SHS 3200 Philips SHS3200 Whilst searching through my many sets of earphones I came across these Philips SHS3200 I’ve had them for a couple of years now, and I remember I tried to get on with them as best I could before I came across the in ear style earphones. What they look like… These particular earphones are designed to sit comfortably over the ear whilst still allowing the full effects of whatever it is you may be listening too. To look at these earphones, they look like little ears made from soft flexible plastic, they have the actual part you hear from which about 1cm round with a soft silver mesh like material in the middle. Attached to that is a bendy plastic piece which like I already said looks like an ear, this is the part that fits around your ear, it is extremely soft and flexible and wearing them is quite comfortable at first. The wire to connect the earphones to whichever device you’re using is about a metre long which then separates into two equal parts which are each about a foot long to each ear piece. The jack end of the earphone wire is different to other sets of earphones that I have because it isn’t straight, it’s bent into an L shape, which I hadn’t really noticed until I decided to review them. The colours of these earphones are black and silver. I was looking for comfort… I remember having a lot of trouble keeping normal earphones in my ears and I had looked for something that was comfortable but would stay in my ears at the same time. At this time I ...
