The Missing (DVD) 27/03/2006

A gun-shooting Mother Teresa in the Wild West...

The Missing (DVD) I am known for liking to watch suspenseful thrillers although I do like other genres too. Whilst only having £1 and the desire to watch a film, at my local DVD rental store I had to go for something that wasn't a 'Top Title.' This caused me to have to rummage the shelves for something half-decent. I came across 'The Missing' the title suggested to me that it might fit the genre I was looking for and so I embarked to read its description on the blurb. It was here that I decided to give it ago, also seeing the notable star cast. I had briefly skimmed the back and when preceding to watch I was pleasantly surprised that the film was different to my expectations. Brief Overview --------------- ----------- This film is set in the 19th century (1800s). The beginning starts with a family of a woman and her two daughters who live in New Mexico. Maggie Gilkeson is the mother who is also a 'healer' this is someone we would know today as a doctor. She leads a relatively humble life and tries to do the best for her children. However, due to her upbringing where her father abandoned her family and having her mother and brother dying whilst she was relatively young, she finds it hard to trust people and to show her love for others (particularly men). This is proved by the fact that she does have a lover but she refuses to show this relationship in front of the children and insists on their relationship being anonymous. It is her 'lover' known as Brake Baldwin who suddenly spots a ...

The Breaker - Minette Walters 23/03/2006

Drowned In Dorset? But It's such a quiet town...

The Breaker - Minette Walters I must admit that I absolutely love reading and there's nothing more I love reading then a scenario where someone gets murdered and you have to find out who done it. If you like this like me then Minette Walters is the author for you. I have started to get addicted to her books but here I shall be reviewing 'The Breaker.' Whilst browsing my local library (well I'm a student and can't afford to buy books!) I tumbled across Minette Walters' book 'The Breaker' this wasn't the only book by her there so I decided to get a handful out. However, this was the first one that I decided to read. As you can see from the picture it's quite a bland cover all you can see is the ebbing sea and I am reviewing the paper-back version. What drew me into deciding to get the book out was the blurb and how I instantly got drawn into the case… General Overview --------------- ---- A woman's naked body is found washed up on shore by a couple of pervey youths -who originally thought she was a nude bather!!! At first this woman is unidentifiable until she is discovered to be Kate Sumner whose 3 year old daughter Hannah had been found wandering the streets of Poole twenty miles away. The Question is why was Kate killed and why was her daughter allowed to live? Why had the daughter been drugged? And just why does the three year old Hannah still look like a baby? What is more troubling is the fact that Kate Sumner was pregnant; did someone want her murdered because of this baby? Who had ...

The Descent 23/01/2006

As they descended so did my opinion....

The Descent *** This is not a DVD review but a FILM review, hence why it s written under the film category and not the DVD one*** I am someone who loves films, but not only that, I love films that contain gore and horror. 'The Descent' had been one that I wanted to watch for a while but hadn't got round too. After reading Jeremy Clarkson's page in my Saturday Newspaper (this Saturday) he had ranked 'The Descent' as his THIRD favourite film of ALL time, beating 'The Long Good Friday' to the post, but below 'Local Hero' and 'Butch Cassidy.' After reading this and realising that the Saturday TV was rubbish I decided to rent out 'The Descent.' ~~~~Basic Plot~~~~ --------------- --------------- ---------- After a tragic freak accident where Sarah's daughter had been accidentally killed by a rod spearing through her head (there was a car crash and the opposite car had rods on top which smashed through the windscreen- I must add I feel this is the most gory and disturbing image of the film. Sarah' is admitted into hospital where she tries to overcome the tragic death of her daughter. It is for a year that she leaves her friendship group where they do exciting things such as kayaking and pot-holing. One year on from the tragic death of her daughter a group of 6 friends decide to go pot-holing. Sarah has returned to the group of Beth, Juno and her (Sarah) where they are joined by Rebecca, Sam and Holly. Holly being the least experienced of the bunch. They all think that they are ...

Vaseline Lip Therapy with Aloe Vera 09/05/2005

Lisa's Lips Lifesaver!

Vaseline Lip Therapy with Aloe Vera Usually I am someone that purchases lip balm or lip-gloss to make my lips shiny and to protect them and up until now have been entirely faithful to these ranges. But I am someone who always has to buy anything, because it is on 'offer.' Which is how Lisa's Lip therapy lesson begins! ~~~What made me purchase Vaseline's Lip Therapy with Aloe Vera?~~~ --------------- --------------- --------------- --------------- --------------- --------------- ----- I am a stickler for offers and on my family's weekly routine visit to Asda I decided that for once I would pop along too. After spending an hour looking at the marvellous clothes aisles, I decided to venture elsewhere- none other then the make-up aisle! *Tsk that's not very surprising of me really, I know*. It was here that I saw there was a '3 for 2' offer on the Vaseline's Lip Therapy selection. There wasn't an extensive range, simply a choice between the Vaseline Lip Therapy with Aloe Vera or simply the Vaseline Lip Therapy on it's own. I personally decided to purchase the Aloe Vera version solely because I cannot stand the smell of Vaseline on its own (to me it smells like rotting animal guts). And I found that the Aloe Vera version masked this smell significantly, also the green packaging swayed me (how superficial!). So that's the tale of Lisa's purchase! ~~~Describe the packaging for me, so I can easily find it.~~~ --------------- --------------- --------------- --------------- --------------- ...

Altoids 22/05/2004

Your Weakness Caused My Bleakness!!!

Altoids Normally, I never use mints simply because I like to chew gum. I mean gum is so handy for everything and its much more pleasant I think, then sucking on or crunching a mint. They are also more widely available (chewing gum that is) as you can just pop in a shop and pick up a packet. Also, it is a lot cheaper these days then buying mints. However, on a visit to my local newsagents ‘Helens’ I was swayed to buy these cute little mints. Purely because of the fact its packaging is unique. ~~THE PACKAGING~~~ --------------- --------------- ------- As you can see in the picture below, this packaging is pretty unique to other mint brands packaging around. Firstly, as you can see it is in a tin. This tin instantly reminded me of one of the old tobacco tins that were around in the 1940s. This I also found would be handy in the sense that no longer do mints just fall out the paper packaging and that you can also re-use the tin to store anything in. A disadvantage to the tin is the fact that it is a lot bulkier then most mints packaging and you can’t just slip it into a pocket. The tin is a hinged one, and as you can see from the picture, the product is designed to be reminiscent of the 1940s. On the front it has the name of the mints ‘ALTOIDS’ in a big black font with a gold lining. The edges of the tin are also rimmed in red. There is also a picture of the peppermint plant that they use to make their mints which it states can be found at the ‘entrance to Stationer’s hall.’ ...

Kill Bill, Vol. 1 [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack] (Parental Advisory/Original Soundtrack) [PA] - Soundtrack 14/05/2004

The Kill Bill Trailer Trilogy!!!

Kill Bill, Vol. 1 [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack] (Parental Advisory/Original Soundtrack) [PA] - Soundtrack Ever since I saw Kill Bill at the cinema back in November, I have become obsessed with the film, its actors/actresses. I am IN Love with it; in fact my life is meaningless without it. This is no joke either; my life is Kill Bill orientated. The night that I came back from seeing Kill Bill at the cinema in Bluewater I even pretended that I was a character in the film and was pretending to fight with an imaginary Samurai sword! Immediately on my Christmas list I put ‘any Kill Bill merchandise’, therefore it came as no surprise that seeing as the film was not available to buy on DVD or Video that somebody would buy me the Soundtrack. Which thankfully, I got. ~~~What Does The Soundtrack Look Like?~~~ --------------- --------------- --------------- --------------- --------- As you can see from the above picture it takes a similar stance to that of the film. The casing is yellow with a black stripe also showing a splash of blood. The yellow and black is to remind us of ‘Black Mamba’s’ also known as ‘The Bride’ (Uma Thurman’s) yellow tracksuit that she wears when she goes on her revenge attack against Oren Ishii. There are also in a big print the words, ‘A Quentin Tarantino Film, KILL BILL Vol.1, Original Soundtrack.’ The inside cover leaflet contains pictures of clips from the film, displaying most of the main characters such as Oren Ishii (Cotton Mouth), ‘The Bride’ (Black Mamba), Go-Go. Sofia etc. It also has the track listing of the soundtrack with details about each ...

Archers Schnapps Aqua Exotic Passion Cocktail 05/05/2004

Archers Abysmal Alcohol!!!

Archers Schnapps Aqua Exotic Passion Cocktail Is it just me or as soon as something new comes out, you instantly have to buy it to try it?! Well I do, it doesn’t matter what it is, if it’s ‘new’ then I want to know if it’s at all improved from the previous variety. Sometimes I go on the weekly shopping trip, but this week I didn’t and my mother being the considerate soul that she is (this was honestly not sarcasm) decided to buy me the limited edition Archers Aqua drink available! This was a kind act, shame she wasn’t to know that she could have saved her money instead of buying this disgustingly putrid ‘drink’ and bought me something that I’d appreciate more e.g. used underwear. Quote marks used, as I do not think it should even be classed as drinkable or for that matter sellable! ~~~What Does The Bottle Look Like~~~ --------------- --------------- --------------- --------------- ----- I suppose this is one of the positive aspects of ‘Archers Schnapps Aqua Exotic Passion Cocktail’ the packaging is quite new and revolutionary and is appealing to the eye. I have included a picture of the bottle in the photo section; please excuse the poorness of my web-cam! The bottle contains 275 ml of the ‘drink.’ The bottle is silver in colour majorly but it has intersperses of the colours red, orange, yellow and green. I know some people these days collect the caps off of alcoholic beverages, so just encase you are a collector, the cap is silver and has red writing of ‘Archers Aqua’ written on it. Thankfully, on the front ...

SAGEM myX-6 30/04/2004

Small, Stylish, Silver, Sagem Shocker!

SAGEM myX-6 AHH! I have a new phone, well it isn’t that new, I have had it since September 24th! However, I decided to write this review a good few months after having the phone so I can explain the full range of its uses! Why did I get a new phone? As my trusty Phillips C12 charger broke and nowhere sells the charger for that phone, and well nobody sells that phone anymore! I had that phone for five wonderful years. I am not one of these people who feel that it is a necessity to have a new and up-to-date phone. So when I was left with the issue of buying a new phone I was left not knowing what I wanted! My first decision was to look about the Internet for what designs were about! I only looked on www.o2.co.uk as I am aware of the other tariffs available: Virgin, 3, Vodafone, Orange, T Mobile etc But I found them from what I have seen and heard from very reliable sources these are all a complete rip off. Now, normally I go for the pay as you go option BUT I wanted a contract phone as I was paying approximately £20.00 a month on pay as you go whereas this amount on contract could gain me more. Looking about the website I could see that ‘camera phones’ were all the rage and the idea of this appealed to me. So that I could catch my drunken mates antics on a night out and embarrass them at a later date with it! Hehe mwahahhahahaha Me evil?! Never! However, the website said that it could take a while for delivery and I did need a phone pretty much instantly as I have to remain in ...

TIGI Bed Head Control Freak Shampoo 16/04/2004

The ONLY Control Freak That You Want To Be With!

TIGI Bed Head Control Freak Shampoo ~~~FIRSTLY, THE PRODUCT CATEGORY FOR THIS SHOULD SAY ‘TIGI BED HEAD CONTROL FREAK SHAMPOO’ CIAO HAS PUT THE WORD BEAD INSTEAD OF BED I DON’T KNOW WHY THEY HAVE DONE THIS AND I HAVE ASKED FOR IT TO BE CORRECTED~~~ Well I’ve always been known for liking change, and the way I express my creative flair is through the different ways in which I experiment with my hair. The first time I did my hair I turned it a tippex white colour! Which I must admit I loved greatly at the time, in fact it was a DIY (Do-It-Yourself) jobby-like most things I do in my life :-P- which made me love it even more so! I have experimented with my hair so much that I have had a variety of colours; to name a few I can remember: orange, white, green, pink grapefruit, varying stages of blonde, varying stages of brown etc. Yet one day I woke up, looked in the mirror and thought ‘OH MY GOD YOU LOOK A COMPLETE AND UTTER STATE’ this was the day I wised up and decided that my hair was best left in the hands of the professionals, the hairdressers! Still having my creative spark, the need to experiment remained and I ended up with the hair colours that you can see in my ciao picture (you can’t see it all, but my hair is A LOT longer and it has the stripes all the way round with the reddy-browny colour for the under-half of my hair. Now, due to the fact I dye my hair about every 4 months and that I straighten my hair daily I needed a shampoo that offered colour protection, protection from the use of heated ...

Boots No.7 Precision Eye Pen 16/03/2004

Bring On The Jack Sparrow Eyes!!!

Boots No.7 Precision Eye Pen As some people already know I am a Boots fanatic I am addicted to the place-probably as it’s a drug store :-P hehe jokes!!! Anyway, I am FOREVER in this shop be it the Bluewater Branch, Dartford Branch…. you name it I’m there :-) Now recently if you spend £10.00 in there you get a £5.00 voucher of No.7 products or FCUK vanity products or Ruby & Mille Products. Now I don’t usually buy No.7 products, as they always seem just a tad pricey. A little bit out of a student’s price range-although they are not drastically expensive lol!!! Normally I stick to brands such as Rimmel, Revlon, Astor although I do splash out on Clinique eye shadow that lasts an incredulously long time : -D However I am not one to waste things and seeing as I had this voucher I thought that I may as well use it. Now as I looked around the shop I didn’t see any Ruby & Mille or FCUK Vanity products that I liked- okay tell a lie I just thought that they were darned expensive!!! So I decided to hunt around the No.7 section. And now the tale of how I bought by Precision Eye Pen begins :-D What attracted me to the eyeliner? --------------- --------------- --------------- ------------ Okay, firstly the packaging isn’t wonderful; in all honesty it’s pretty standard!!! Its just black with a gold lid and has the gold and white No.7 logo on it. There are two kinds of eyeliner that they do a Precision Eye Pencil (which I did not purchase) and the ‘Precision Eye Pen’, which I did purchase, and I am going to ...

Guylian Belgian Chocolate Sea Shells 15/07/2003

CALLING ALL MALES: Buy this for your girl!

Guylian Belgian Chocolate Sea Shells I was first introduced to these around 3 years ago and I have been in love with them ever since! They are my FAVOURITE chocolates! To me, no other chocolates even compare to them, but I am also rather partial to Galaxy Chocolate, which also include Ripples! Hehe! I suppose that telling your boyfriend that these are your favourite chocolates is a bad idea as when the annoy you they know to buy these and it will make it all better! Oh dear, however they aren’t exactly cheap chocolates so it does put him out of pocket! And they don’t get off quite so easy! Also, eatig too many of these chocolates might turn you a bit podgy! ~~~How can I spot them?~~~ Well, there are a variety of styles that The Guylian Seashells come in, little boxes, medium boxes, large boxes and in a tin! I recommend buying the version that is in a tin as you can reuse the tin after use. All of these styles however come with the same standard pattern, a white background with Guylian plastered across the front in a gold font! All packets also have pictures of some of the chocolates that are inside on the front of the box, all of which are pictures of Sea Shells. The review I am writing on is the Guylian Chocolates that are bought in the tin, as this was my most recent purchase, well actually my boyfriend’s most recent purchase! ~~~Okay, so tell me more about the chocolate?~~~ Now you open the tin (which contains 44 chocolates and is 500g in weight), the first thing you see is a cover! It’s a ...
