Nestlé Kit Kat White Chocolate 16/09/2009

White Choco-lust satisfied

Nestlé Kit Kat White Chocolate As a big fan of the original Kit Kat and of white chocolate, this is a match made in heaven. There is enough thick white chocolate to satisfy that chocolate urge and the mix of wafer fingers in the middle, satisfies the Kit Kat requierment! A delightful mix of flavours and textures that sets off the taste buds and gives you that sugar high your body was craving after the mid afternoon lull. Some confectioners have produced some very unusual pairings in the past in terms of your favourite treat, coupled with a new flavour or some extra nuts, caramel or even peanut butter. Some have worked, others have disappeared from the shelves as quickly as they arrived. In my opinion, the White Chocolate Kit Kat is a definitely works.

The Kala Hotel, Koh Samui 16/09/2009

The Kala - the undiscovered gem of a hotel on Ko Samui

The Kala Hotel, Koh Samui We stayed at the Kala hotel on a recent trip to Ko Samui, we found it through a hotel website and we got an exceptional deal for a 5 night stay. It is situated on the coast just between Lamai and Chaweng - so it is easy to get to the nightlife, but during the day you are far enough away to enjoy the serenity of the lush greenery and infinity pool. There are a variety of rooms - some come with their own private infinity pool and private massage area. There is a Spa on the grounds and there are a variety of treatments to keep any frequent spa goer happy. Make sure you book though as it can get quite busy towards the end of the day when everyone is looking for that de-stress! The hotel itself is built into the rock face and offers excellent views out over the sea, you can also take a kayak out for a paddle and I recommend that highly and take your camera as you will get some excellent pictures of the Kala as well as the island shoreline. Breakfast is a buffet affair at the open air restaurant and is a great way to get fuel on board for a full day of site seeing, or lazing by the pool. The food was always excellent and the home made, coconut jam was a favourite of ours. Kala is the the thai word for coconut shell and they have an individual way to indicate whether or not to be disturbed or have your room cleaned. Outside your room is a small stand with a complimentary bamboo umbrella and 1 black coconut shell and 1 white coconut shell. They are explained in more detail when ...

HTC Touch Diamond2 15/09/2009

Great looking Win Mo touch flo phone

HTC Touch Diamond2 I have this phone as a work phone and it substituted the i-mate I was initially given and subsquently broke. I am an avid Windows Mobile user and have been since the first iterations of the smart phone hit the consumer market. My have they come along way. The Touch Diamond 2 looks great and works as it is supposed to. Turning on and setting up the phone's functions is easy to do, especially syncing with your outlook mail. The touch flo screen makes it a pleasure to use, although the absence of a QWERTY keyboard is a down side, especially if you have big fingers because you will always have to take the stylus out to hit the keys you want. As HTC make a lot of the innards of other smart phones, they are usually a good bet and with the latest iterations of their phones they have finally come up to speed - literaly - by putting in decent processors, rather than having a perfectly good phone in every other aspect and then putting a 200mhz processor in it. The Diamond 2 doesn't have any problems with multi tasking, there can sometimes be a slight delay but only if you are trying to do about 4 things at once online. The way it stores your SMS's and e-mails as conversations takes some getting used to, but it's a life saver when you want to quickly look back over emails/sms's from clients or friends, especially when you need evidence to prove that your argument is correct! HTC phones are in my opintion unbreakable. I have an HTC S710 as my sturdy back up phone as this particular ...

ASUS Eee PC 1000H 15/09/2009

The value for money netbook of choice

ASUS Eee PC 1000H Having recently set up a new business, I invested in a sturdy laptop to be my main business machine. However, I had an old work laptop sitting around and a dealer was doing an offer to part exchange your old laptop in for a new one. I had been investigating netbooks as a viable travel companion and the Asus came out as a winner. It was between this and the Acer alternative - however the Asus was cheaper and I am reliable informed that Asus actually make a lot of the insides to all the other netbooks. What really sealed the deal for me though was the battery life. As the Asus is operating Windows XP, it doesn't require a huge memory and lots of power to chug through the tiresome engaging of all the relevant services. I bought the Asus just before a trip to the UK for a conference and this conference was a true test of the claimed 9 hour battery life. I have to say I was very impressed - claiming 9 hours meant really only 7 hours max, which was still way more than any other netbook. I fired it up at 9am and on one charge it lasted me until 6pm, the entire first day of the conference - very impressed. Second day, it only lasted until 4pm, but nevertheless, we are talking between 7-9 hours of battery life and that is constantly hibernating and coming back on etc. Battery life is monumental. It's size is perfect as well, I am a big guy with big hands and fingers and I can quite comfortably type away on the key board with no issues. The tracking pad is easy to use, although ...

Movenpick Resort, Petra 15/09/2009

Great Location - bad timing

Movenpick Resort, Petra This hotel has got to be the hotel of choice in Petra, literally within 2 minutes walk is the entrance to the Petra ruins site. You couldn't ask for a better location when you are in Petra, especially as you are going to be doing a lot of walking! The location is what saved the hotel for us really. We arrived in Jordan in July, which is off season for them as it is too hot. However, for us coming from Dubai, the 35 degree heat and low humidity was a real pleasure. For people not coming from the Middle East though it can be warm and as such qualifies as their off season. This explains why, when we arrived we were then advised of the renovations going on and that one of the main restaurants would also be out of order. We were advised that the renovation noise would only be between 9-5pm! So we figured this would be ok as we would be out for most of the day anyway. However, when we arrived in the room they had allocated to us, we couldn't even hear the concierge talking to us over the pneumatic drill that sounded like it was about to come through the ceiling. We called reception to advise that this was unacceptable but couldn't actually hear them at the other end due to the noise! To the hotel's credit, they moved us and even upgraded us, which was lovely, but the room they initially showed us to, shouldn't even have been in operation with that kind of noise going on. What was perhaps more annoying was that they renovations had been going on for a while and there was no ...

Ford F150 15/09/2009

Ford F-150, most endurable, reliable truck out there

Ford F150 I bought a 2004 FX4, Supercab with a Flareside 6.5ft bed 4 years ago and have been using it every day out in the desert heat of Dubai. As the best selling truck in the States for over 30 years, it's credentials speak for itself. As a daily trooper it has been completely reliable, with the only things needed to be changed on it being a new battery and a new drivers side electric window unit and I am now at 130,000km. Otherwise it has been faultless. My truck sits on 20inch alloys with some low profile Hankook 315/50/20R's all round as well as a cat back quad pipe sports exhaust system. The modifications allow the truck to corner a lot quicker than anything of that size should do and the exhaust system gives it a sound appropriate to it's size. The 5.4 litre 24 valve triton engine is a solid block which on my truck kicks out around 315hp through the back wheels, with the option of the on the fly 4x4 electronic shift. There is more than enough power to light up the back wheels and cause some consternation at the lights to those drivers of much lighter so called sports cars. Pick up from the engine is excellent, with only a slight delay sometimes when the 4 speed automatic gear box confuses itself. The Supercab layout has two huge captains seats up front with a 3 seat bench behind accessible through the suicide half doors. Kitted out in black leather, there is more than enough space for 5 adults to travel relatively long distances in comfort. The ride is always going to be ...
