Just Dance (Wii) 11/02/2010

Just Dance your way to fitness!

Just Dance (Wii) We bought a Wii in November 2009 about six months after I said it would be a great thing to have as we'd only got a PS2 and were getting a bit bored with those games. My boyfriend brought the subject up again and has since taken credit for having the idea to get one - well he's not about to admit it was someone else's idea, is he? Anyway, I bought Just Dance from Amazon for about £18 and think it was well worth the money. You don't need a dance mat, just a Wii Remote in your right hand and off you go. Now, it's not terribly accurate. You can be doing exactly the same as the character on the screen and it doesn't register but for me it's more about the exercise. It takes some practise to learn how to hold the remote for the different songs, just try tilting you hand a bit and you should find you get a better score. Experts say you can burn around 400 calories per hour by using this game which I think is brilliant. Obviously the more effort you put into it the better. The 30-plus songs are fantastic, there's something for everyone. There's probably only a couple that I don't like, one of them being Mashed Potato Time. My favourites are Pump Up the Jam and Jin Go La Ba. To play you just follow the character on the screen and you get rated by how well you're doing. You score bar goes up as you go, the more correct combos you get the more score you get. There are various game modes and you can play with up to three other people. You can choose each song as you go or opt ...

Tesco Couscous 11/02/2010

Delicious alternative to potatoes

Tesco Couscous Tesco Whole Wheat Couscous can be found in the pasta isle of Tesco with the pulses. It comes in a see-though plastic packet weighing 500g and costs around 90p. On the front of the packet you can clearly see the nutritional values and on the back tells you how to prepare it. It is extremely easy to prepare, all you have to do is weigh out 50g per person and add some boiling water, (250ml for four servings) then cover it and wait for 5-10 minutes before fluffing it up with a fork and serving straight away. You can also prepare it by warming some water in a saucepan, adding the couscous and leaving to stand for 3 minutes. Then return to the heat and simmering for 3-4 minutes. I would say this is the better method doing it the other way the couscous tends to cool down quite a bit (which is fine when having it with salad) Being wholewheat this couscous is much more filling than the plain, white couscous and healthier for you, much like white versus wholemeal bread. A 50g serving give you just 180 calories and 1g of fat so it can be part of a healthy lifestyle just like rice or pasta. You have the choice of adding a little butter or oil if you prefer but I like it just made with boiling water. As couscous has a very light taste it can be served with a variety of food. Chicken and fish are my favourite, you may want to have some kind of marinade or sauce to give it flavour or add herbs. A favourite lunch of mine is couscous, half a can of tuna chunks and some salad. This ...

Kelloggs Nutri Grain 09/02/2010

Nutrigrain Bars

Kelloggs Nutri Grain These soft bake bars from Kelloggs are extremely tasty and filling, either for breakfast or as a snack in between meals. They come as a pack of eight in a recycleable cardboard box which has a shaped perforation along the front for easy opening. The boxes are quite eye-catching with a large picture of the bars themselves. The bars are individually wrapped in plastic (like a multibag of crisps) with the flavour clearly labelled. The calorie content is also clearly displayed on the front of the box and bars. There are 130 calories and 3g of fat per bar which is quite good for something like this. All the fruit fillings are very tasty indeed, this is wrapped inside a crust which holds it all together. The crust is sweet but not over powering. The sweetness comes from the filling. You get probably four bites from a bar and it doesn't crumble at all so is easy to eat. I highly recommend these bars as a snack, even for anyone trying to lose weight. They are tasty, filling and easy to carry around with you. There are many delicious Nutrigrain Bar flavours to descover. They can be found in the cereal isle at Tesco and usually cost around £2.00 for a box of eight, sometimes they are on offer at £1.50 per box. (Also reviewed on dooyoo)

Muller Light Smooth Banana and Custard yoghurt 07/02/2010

Mullerlight Banana & Custard Yoghurts

Muller Light Smooth Banana and Custard yoghurt With only 103 calories and 0.1g of fat in this HUGE 190g pot this low fat yoghurt really is worth a try! If you're watching your weight you can easily fit this yoghurt into your diet on a daily basis. The foil lid peels back easily to reveal a light yellow coloured yoghurt which is smooth in consistency, I was expecting lumps of banana for some reason but glad there weren't any! The banana taste really comes through, however, the custard is a little more vague. But still, I love banana flavoured yoghurt so that's not so bad. If you really want banana and custard it's best to have the real thing. Muller seem to be trying to make the impossbile at the moment with all the different "dessert" styles they're trying to concoct. All in all it's a very nice, smooth yoghurt which is kind to dieters and is very filling. Great to have as an afternoon snack or with your lunch. (Also reviewed on dooyoo)

Rosemary Conley's Five Day Fat Burner (DVD) 07/02/2010

Great for busy people!

Rosemary Conley's Five Day Fat Burner (DVD) I owe a lot of my eight stone weight loss to Rosemary Conley. No, I didn't join one of her classes, instead I bought some of her exercise dvds, Five Day Fat Burner being one of them. This exercise dvd is great for busy people as the whole 60 minute workout can be easily split into five 10 minute sections. The sections are as follows: 1. Workout 1 - Warm Up Fat Burner 2. Workout 2 - Fat Burner 3. Workout 3 - Fat Burner Cool Down 4. Workout 4 - Toning Hips, Thighs and More 5. Workout 5 - Toning Abdominals and More 6. Workout 6 - Relaxation Stretch 7. Menu Planner Workouts 1 to 3 can easily be combined together and take around 30 minutes to complete. Rosemary tells you what is going to happen next, giving you time to prepare yourself, unlike some other dvds! She also has a group of people with her who have actually lost weight by doing her diet and exercise program, I like how she tells you who they are and how much they have lost. There's also a man in this workout which should encourage the guys to have a go. The toning sections are comphrensive, targeting lots of problem areas. You will need a sturdy dining chair, some weights (water bottles will do) and a mat if you have a hard floor. The stretching section is nice to do at the end of your workout and only takes around five minutes. The menu planner is a lovely addition to the dvd. This is a 20 minute section in which Rosemary explains how our bodies uses and burns calories and how to cook ...

Caxton Pink & White Jammies 07/02/2010

Yes, you can eat these on a diet!

Caxton Pink & White Jammies Whenyou're trying to lose weight you have to look around for those little treats that keep you going. I came across these wafers in Home Bargains, and it really was a bargain, only 55p for a packet of 9. I bought just the one pack but have since been back to stock up! You'll also find them in Tesco. The packaging is very eye catching, it's just a plastic wrapper, like a multibag of crisps but the colour is what makes you look twice - bright pink! On opening the packet you have a clear plastic tray containing the scrumptious wafers. They're pretty big about 5-6 inches long by about 3 inches wide so you don't feel like you're eating a diet-wise product. There are two crunchy wafers which are a little bit sweet with pink and white strips of marshmallow inbetween. There's also a bit of raspberry jam in the middle of the marshmallow. The marshmallow is very sweet and is covered in fine sugar which gives it a bit of crunch. They feel really nice to eat, for me it's like having that crunch and sweetness of a biscuit without the calories or fat. There's just 55 calories and hardly any fat in eat peice which is unbelievable. Brilliant if you are trying to lose weight. (Also reviewed on Dooyoo)

Kellogg's Special K Bars 07/02/2010

Special K Bars

Kellogg's Special K Bars Being on a diet I decided to have a good look around Tesco for anything low in calories and fat. I came across these Special K bars in a box of 12 for around £2.50 so decided to give them a go. The bars are individually wrapped and are 23g each. At just 88 calories and 1g of fat per bar they're perfect as a snack between meals. Also they are very handy for slipping in your lunchbox or pocket when out and about. The bars themselves are attractive looking with their puffed rice, wheat flakes and cranberries but it's the yoghurt-drizzled coating along the top that makes them special, this provides that little extra sweetness that we crave. I love the way these bars are crunchy yet chewy, the texture just feels right in your mouth. I'm not going to say these bars are filling because they're not. But they do ease a sugar craving and keep you going between meals, or are nice to have after a meal. (Also reviewed on DooYoo)

Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance Leave in Conditioner 30/05/2008

Does exactly as you would hope

Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance Leave in Conditioner Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance Leave-In Condition has a lovely bubblegum like smell. It is a conditioner that you just spray all over your hair after washing and it instantly detangles and softens your hair without leaving it feeling sticky. It is great if you don't have the time to rinse ordinary conditioner out of your hair. It is very easy to use with a pump spray action and the size of the bottle is very generous for the price, I have had mine about a year now and use it probably five times a week - and it is still about half full, even though I have quite long hair and use it quite liberally. I would recommend this leave in conditioner to anyone who doesn't have the time to use ordinary condition every time they wash their hair. ...

HP Compaq Business Notebook 6715b 29/05/2008

Great Laptop

HP Compaq Business Notebook 6715b I've had this laptop for about six months now and have had no problems at all, it handles my eBay business with ease. It is quick, easy to use and looks great. The keyboard and touchpad are very good quality, the fingerprint sensor is an ingenious touch and the screen is very clear. The battery lasts a good 2-2.5 hours on full charge with some tweaks to the settings and charges up quickly. The only thing I would say I don't like is the position of the four USB ports on the sides, it would be much easier to have the two on the right at the back as it does hamper using a traditional mouse somewhat. I love the addition of an SD card reader as it makes life much easier for uploading photographs. The processor lives up to expectations and the hard disk is big enough for most people's needs. I recommend it whole-heartedly.

Scrapbook Inspirations Magazine 29/05/2008

Scrapbook Inspirations Magazine

Scrapbook Inspirations Magazine Wonderful magazine with lots of ideas and inspiration. The resident crafters are very skilful, helping readers to try new things all the time and offering advice. The magazine is very good quality with lovely colourful photographs throughout and good advertisments. They also give lists of helpful websites worth visiting and real shops in order of county. Readers can send in their creations to be displayed on the "Reader's Gallery" in the magazine The letters page is entertaining and informative, I alway like reading what other crafters are getting up to. There could be more freebies given away with the magazine though. For £3.99 - most craft magazines of this price range give great gifts every month. I still recommend this book to anyone starting off or experienced scrapbookers - it is a very addictive hobby! ...

Sam Sparro - Sam Sparro 28/05/2008

Sam Sparro Album

Sam Sparro - Sam Sparro Fantastic album, I've listened to it so many times! I hadn't heard of Sam Sparro until Black and Gold was on the radio a couple of weeks ago and I decided to find out more about him. All the tracks on the album are brilliant. His voice and style seems to be a mixture of the Scissor Sisters, Prince and the Bee Gees. It's very easy to sing along to as he sings clearly (not like some singers where you can't understand a word they are singing!). I will definately be looking out for more albums by Sam Sparro in the future, his voice is very smooth and sexy. Plus he doesn't take himself seriously at all - watch the video for Cottonmouth - it's hilarious. I recommend this album to everyone (although beware of a few swear words here and there).

Daphne Du Maurier 28/05/2008

Daphne du Maurier

Daphne Du Maurier Daphne du Maurier was a true when it comes to novelists. She had written some of the best books of her time which continues to be a source of enjoyment for readers all over the world. Perhaps her most well known books are Rebecca, Jamaica Inn and Frenchman's Creek but there are so many more novels and short stories to enjoy. Her first novel was The Loving Spirit, a story about one Cornish family through many generations and their fight to survive while making a living from building boats. In contrast, her last book, The House on the Strand is about a man who begins taking some kind of drug which enables him to go into the past where he learns about Cornwall from many years ago. Both of these books would make excellent films - I have no idea why they haven't been snatched up. Everyone should read at least one du Maurier book!

Jamaica Inn (DVD) 28/05/2008

Jamaica Inn

Jamaica Inn (DVD) To start, Jamaica Inn is my all time favourite book, however, the film is very disappointing. Yes, I know it was made in 1939 but Rebecca was made just a few years after and is a world apart. The film is very dark, the acting is wooden and seems to stray far and wide from the main story. There is, however, good visual effects - a ship wreck on the Cornish coast for example - which does seem to lift the film a little. Mary Yellen is a young woman whos' mother has just died and she is sent to live with her aunt and uncle who own Jamaica Inn on windy and dangerous Bodmin Moor in Cornwall. There she discovers the hidden world of smuggling and falls in love with an unlikely fellow. I would love to see a remake.

Moulin Rouge (DVD) 28/05/2008

Moulin Rouge

Moulin Rouge (DVD) What a brilliant film! So bright and colourful with excellent music. Baz Lurman has produced this absolutely excellent film which will stay with you forever. Ewan McGregor plays a man trying to find work as a poet who is drawn into writing a play for the Moulin Rouge. It is arranged for him to meet the beautiful coutesan (Nicole Kidman) and, of course, they fall in love. It is not easy going though, a rich aristocrat has his evil eye on her and tries to split them up, even resorting to trying to kill McGregors character! The acting, singing and dancing are spectacular, there are both funny and sad parts, all of which is brilliantly acted. It will have you crying and laughing all the way through the film and you will feel like you have watched something special. ...

Behaving Badly - Isabel Wolff 28/05/2008

Behaving Badly

Behaving Badly - Isabel Wolff First off - I loved this book! I don't read 'chick-lit' very often so it was nice to read a light, easy, cosy book. The story is about a woman who has just split with her partner and has set up an animal psycho-therapy clinic in her home where she helps people and their animals overcome their problems - which are usually quite funny! Isabel Wolff doesn't waste time on lots of description which can get on my nerves, (who cares about the exact colour of the sky? I don't need a whole page telling me!) and put me off reading a book. The main character has a deep, dark secret and tries to make amends which lead to finding love in an unpredictable and lovely way. I recommend it to everyone and look forward to reading more by the same author.
