COMET AUCTION SITE

comet.co.uk Fed up of scouring around the January sales for your electrical bargains? Tired of looking for so called bargains in electrical stores? I don't know about you guys but I always am too late and don't really find the "Manger's Specials" to be that special, by the time I get there all that is left are out of date, destroyed and overpriced products. This year I found myself searching the January sales for a washing machine.....the absolute cheapest possible to go into a house I have just let out to a new tenant. I spent two days undecided and baffled at which to get and wandering from shop to shop trying to find that illusive absolute bargain.....all I could find was a full priced Servis machine at £179.00 plus delivery.....you may think "what a cheapskate" but to me at the moment every penny counts....I decided to leave it and hunt around online. Well I had success by finding a lower spin service model at £149.00 on the Comet website and was about to place my order when I spotted "AUCTION" tab on their website and started to investigate further. WHAT A GREAT SITE. I surfed around finding top brand named machines, some were returns, some with minor damage, a few with a minor part missing. There were end of line items, display items and many boxed with no damage at all. All goods are new and carry a full 12 months manufacturer's gaurantee. GETTING GOING All items start at £1.00 and are on for seven days. You have to register your name, address, credit or debit ...

McCoy's Crisps 17/04/2002

FULL METAL JACKET PACKET

McCoy's Crisps I am the worst offender in the world for midnight snacking. Every week I go shopping for food to put in my lunchbox at work as my wife says she is fed up of putting the same things in my sarnies day in day out.....I like doing this as in addition I can now choose what to load the fridge with for my midnight feasts! Whoops there goes my diet! I am supposed to be buying myself "healthy foods" that I like as I am trying to slim down a bit having ballooned after giving up smoking 2 years ago.....big mistake sending me to the shops! All started well as I love salad and crisp bread etc...then oneday I bypassed to the crisp section, accidentally of course, and could not help seeing the real McCoy's multi~pack on special offer at £1.29. Getting fed up with the missing "solid" food in my daily lunchbox I bought two multi~packs. Each multi~pack contained twelve 35g packets, 4 salt & malt vinegar, 4 cheddar & onion and 4 flame grilled steak. Now, my intentions were good, but I no longer have a nicotine addiction as it has been replaced by a snack addiction, so as you may have guessed only two packets from the first multi~pack actually made it to my sandwich box! I used to be a Hula Hoop person but got bored of the same thing and actually managed to stop snacking at night as I am fed up of them. It is not all bad, I used to munch through about 4 packets of them in an evening of Ciao and Ebay surfing, but now, with The Real McCoy's one packet and a glass of cranberry juice ...

WD-40 Lubrication Spray 10/04/2002

Life begins at WD-40

WD-40 Lubrication Spray Ever had a siezed bolt or an annoying squeaky door hinge? WD-40 is by far the best fast solution to a multitude of mechanical related problems. The smell from the product has a kind of sweet aroma which athough I cannot say it is a smell I would crave for(like Bisto!) it is definately not unpleasant. Most other penetrative sprays smell of parafin or other oil based substances. Unfortunately there are a few diasadvantages as usually WD-40 is often only a temporary solution and further action is required to make a permanent repair. SQUEAKS ````````` This product is ideal for locating and stopping or diagnosing squeaks in all kinds of locations and uses. Examples: household doorhinges, window handles, computer seat swivels, clutch, brake or throttle pedal squeaks, drive belts etc. Being a motor engineer I find it to be an excellent diagnotic tool in this area. On many an occasion a vehicle has been presented to me with a squeak from a particular area, pointing the straw attatchment on the nozzle directly at the area components can be eliminated as the offending article by a quick squirt. As the aroma is not offensive it does not matter too much if the WD40 is splashed or sprayed onto youself by the ations of usage. Unfortunately as this pruduct does tend to dry out, the squeak will usually return quite rapidly. A permanent non drying grease should be applied or repair/replacement of bush/belt is usually neccessary. PENETRATION ````````````` This is probably the ...

Ocean Spray Cranberry Select 30/03/2002

Nice box... nasty taste. Orange and Cranberry

Ocean Spray Cranberry Select As you may have noticed I am trying variants of "Ocean Spray's" Cranberry drinks. I love cranberry Juice, drinking it regular to keep me regular. I swear by it as a healthy daily natural dose of vitamin C.....but this one ...I swore at it! I usually drink their cranberry and rasberry drink which is a little on the sickly sweet side or straight cranberry drink and was impressed by the Lime and cranberry even though the lime masked it a bit, but this.....ttttthpyuck! Just go out and buy a couple of dozen packets of refreshers, empty them into a glass and top up with water and you will have a very similar drink! Anyway now that you have a mild inclination that I didn't like it much I will get down to the details and nutritional content of it. CONTENTS Orange juice 32% Cranberry juice 10% It is free from artificial flavouring, colouring, sweetners or preservatives. The rest is water with added sugar, vitamin C, citric acid, pectin(stabiliser), natural colour (Beta carotene)and added natural flavourings. So as you can see there are flavour enhancers which they claim to be natural. Nutritional info per 100ml Energy..........202 kj/48kcal Protein.........trace Carbohydrate....11.5g Fat.............0g Vitamin C.......30mg I was suprised to read that this can be frozen but must be consumed within a week. The top is a twist top concealing a plastic ring pull which can easilly break leaving the carton usable only if you attack it with a knife or pair of ...

DEATH.....COPING WITH IT...

Everything that starts with D ... Have any of you ever lost a best friend through sudden death? I am 38 years old. Several years ago I lost my stepfather who had suffered illness for several years and although sudden it was not entirly unexpected. I was very close to him as he had brought me up since the age of three. Old age, natural causes call it what you like, he just slipped away in his sleep. I was extremely upset, but able to accept and cope with his death. I arranged his funeral with my Mum visited him in the chapel of rest and handled the situation very well. I still miss him and have good memories of him looking back with great fondness. At school three of us were best mates and did everthing and went everywhere together. When we left school we all went to the same college although we studied different things. We used to ride our mopeds in everyday through wind and rain regularly falling off in the ice! Adrian(Adge) left college joining the Navy as a radar technician, myself, also Adrian(Manty) trained as a motor engineer and Nick(Cappo) was a top class bricky.(Bricklayer) Adge was in the medditeranean on HMS Coventry when war broke out in the Falklands and we spent many nights with his Dad chatting and praying that all would be O.K. Imagine our horror when we heard the news that the Coventry had been hit....Even worse when there was no word for days....then the news missing and finally, lost at sea. 19 years old, asleep off duty at the time I was told, one of only around 10 as I ...

Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice 19/03/2002

THIN RED LIME

Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice I have been a fan of Ocean Spray juice drinks for a long time and decided to try their new "Pure Juice" drink range. CRANBERRY AND LIME ``````````````` ````` This drink is pure cranberry and lime juices "naturally sweetened" with grape and apple juices. They use American cranberries and the drink has no added sugar, artificial colouring, flavouring or sweetners. Despite it's name the the lowest ingredient content percentages are the lime and cranberry, being 2% and 15% respectively. Grape juice is 55% and apple 28%. Even though it is the lowest amount the lime juice is the most predominant flavour almost completely over powering the other flavours making it almost a weak lime juice with the dryness of cranberry and sweetness of apple and grape. This is however a very thirst quenching and refreshing drink.....but very moreish. On the carton it states that you should drink it all within 4 days of opening....unfortunately after opening the 1 litre carton lasted about 4 minutes! NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION ``````````````` `````````` It does contain added vitamin C and states that a 200ml serving contains your recommended daily allowance of 60mg. Each 100ml has: Energy value:237kj/56kcal Protein:0.1g Carbohydrate:13.3g Fat:trace g Vitamin C:30mg The packaging states "The paper used in this pack comes from northern European forests where tree growth is greater than tree felling" Now we have all tried opening the standard tear corner 1 litre value cartons ...

Easy CD Creator Platinum 5.0 Complete package 16/03/2002

EASY PEAZY PC CD

Easy CD Creator Platinum 5.0 Complete package I was very annoyed when I built my new pc and installed xp to find Easy CD creator would no longer work, so annoyed I wrote a damning opinion on ciao, slating Roxio. Eventually, after three months of calming down and desperately trying to get around the fact that Easy cd creator 3, 4 or Direct cd 2.5 will never work on XP and being fed up with microsofts limited and slow cdwriting package(no re-writing) I decided it was time to buy the Platinum 5 software. I searched the net.....how much? still 50 quid? Tried everything even bidding on an illegal copy on ebay to get this packet writing software at a sensible price. So out I went into sunny Bournemouth....PC World, nill stock £50....Staples, nill stock £45, Commet, nil stock, Dixons????? "what is that?" and "does it work on Playstaion2?" I gave up and went home with a webcam instead! Back to plan 1....online, but no-one holding stock, then Amazon books saved the day....£22.50 and in stock, so I hurridly ordered my goods. Days went by....no Roxio software, so I used Amazon order tracking....nil stock available 6~8 weeks aaaaaggggghhhhhh! Checked again by search....the price had gone up too now £37.50. "Never mind", I hoped, as I had paid by credit card, then the next day out of the blue it arrived, Whoopee. All loaded up fine, downloaded the driver patch for XP and it is all now in business with absolutely no hitches. WHAT IT DOES -------------- Basically it has all of the functions of the old Adaptec packet ...

Easy CD Creator Deluxe 4.0 Complete package 14/03/2002

RIPPED OFF BY ROXIO AND ADAPTEC

Easy CD Creator Deluxe 4.0 Complete package About 10 months ago I purchased a Memorex CD-RW complete with adaptec Easy CD Creator v4 and Direct CD v3 how happy I was burning CD's and re-writing, erasing and saving all sorts to cd instead of clogging up my hard drive with rubbish....I could drag drop and delete pictures direct from my camera just like using windows explorer taking my work with me so that I could add to it any where. I am so impressed by every aspect of this programe , the speed and ease of use, extra program for jewel case labels, data copying, music CD copying is ideal so that I can have a perfect copy of my cd's in my car. It was dead easy to intall, with absolutely no hicups and for several months my Memorex CD-RW has had lots of use....UNTIL NOW GRRRRRR IT WILL NOT AND WILL NEVER WORK IN WINDOWS XP Adaptec software has been handed to Roxio and this version has been replaced by a new version for XP and there is not going to be an update for this unless you purchase the new V5 platinum edition and then download a patch....I am so angry as I have purchased XP and installed it and with Easy cd or Direct cd installed hardly any of my hardware works...not even a CD rom. I have surfed and scanned updated and used the XP wizard but I have to face facts....it will never work as long as the Adaptec and Roxio software Writers have a hole in their a**e. They are offering the V5 platinum version....which by all accounts is very good for £50ish...BUT WHAT ABOUT US SUCKERS THAT HAVE RECENTLY ...

Indesit R45 Fridge Freezer 28/01/2002

The Tardis

Indesit R45 Fridge Freezer This Fridge freezer is LARGE on the outside...but even BIGGER on the inside. This is the most practical fridge freezer I have ever seen with excellent styling and colour externally and perfect layout inside. SEARCH FOR A FRIDGE. We had been toying with the idea of buying a new fridge freezer for months...in fact ever since our last visit to Florida where our villa had a huge almost walk-in fridge complete with ice-making machine. When we are not working,(which is a very rare occasion, as Angus will verify)we like to go SHOPPING and spend our hard earned cash on anything that will enhance our humble domain....we had looked on numerous occasions at fridge freezers with ice machines but could not find one that met our budget. The January sales came and my wife dragged me out on boxing day and we headed for Comet/Curries/Dixon-land. We spotted several battered objects in the humungus-fridge-with-icemaker range that were reduced to about £700, I was immediately put off by the efficiency rating being C and lower. Getting ready to despair and go home I spotted this superb looking larder fridge with a small freezer compartment all in silver tucked away in the corner. Not one of your common square white 50/50 fridge freezers but rounded 75/25 and metallic silver paintwork. Alas no ice machine...but something was rapidly drawing me closer for a further investigation....SALE PRICE £239.00!!! The label on the front rated it at "B" for economy...I had seen Zanusi and Smeg worse ...

AMD K7 (Athlon) 14/01/2002

AMD Athlon THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO

AMD K7 (Athlon) AMD do it again. A few years ago I remember planning my upgrade for my next PC and waiting for the Pentium processor to drop to an affordable price....it didn't so my supplier recommended AMD's near top of the range K6 450 as a reliable budget cpu. I could not knock it in any way and it handled almost anything thrown at it, way out performing my old pentium 266. I had to take it in for repair as the mother board developed a problem and had to be replaced under it's gaurantee and when repaired the engineer commented on it being a nice quick little machine. Three years on....upgrade time again...time to build a new one. Now that processors were running at over 1 gig I decided an upgrade was due and had a look around. I had my eye on a 1gig Athlon and saw that they were now available as 1.4gig with 266fsb....but too pricey for me....but they were dropping price on a day to day basis. Waiting patiently and watching prices the Pentium 4 arrived with a staggering 2gig. My friend had bought an Athlon 1.4 and overclocked it to 1.6 and said he had heard a report that a standard 1.4 was quicker and more stable than the fastest Pentium, I was impressed. Prices still falling eventually the bargain came up at the price I could not turn down...less than £100 with heatsink fan and compound!!! (prices appear to have gone back up now) Checkout STAK TRADING and Scan international TODAY ONLY section for whacky bargains. So I now have a processor better than I wanted and decided to ...

Olympus Camedia C-830L Digital Camera 12/01/2002

STILL GOING STRONG

Olympus Camedia C-830L Digital Camera Two years have passed since I purchased my Olympus Camedia C-830L and it is still flawless and takes abfab pics. I paid nealy £400 for it and it has been well worth the investment. I was looking for a camera to take digital photographs for building my own website to sell antiques collectables and curios. Also I required pictures to post to ebay auction site. At first I was just going to buy a cheapy at around £150 but was talked out of it by a good salesman...I am sure glad I listened to him. The quality of the pictures at 1.3 million pixels is excellent even at todays standards and the camera has paid for itself over and over with superb shots of items for sale on the web. The camera is robust and extremely well built and has sustained some real punishment from me, I was dubius obout the strength of the flimsy looking plastic flip-lid cover over the video out ports but this was unfounded. It came with Camedia imaging software and Camedia photoalbum software and a 4mb smartmedia card containing software for panoramic imaging and capable of storing 43 standard quality pictures each around 50~60kb. On the high quality setting it is capable of 12 pics 175~200kb or 6 super high quality at around 350~400kb. I have bought some higher capacity smartmedia cards that are now so cheap...an 8mb card holds about 120 standard shots. It is so easy to use...for standard shots just point and click....but beware of the slight delay...one of the only drawbacks, the shot is not instant ...

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 06/01/2002

Lord of the Numb Ringpiece

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Having recently sat through "Harry Potter" and "Pearl Harbour" and suffered numb bum sindrome, I wasn't entirely sure if I wanted to sit on a cinema seat ever again let alone 3 1/4 hours! Waiting in anticipation for several months after being bored by Pearl Harbour and then disappointed by Harry Potter I decided to brave the bum pains and go and see if it was as good as it was cracked up to be.....it was for me... I hadn't read the book (anything more than 2 pages is just too much for me) but had heard my mates often talking about Gollam, Bilbo Baggins and Gandolf so I knew I wouldn't be dissapointed. How can such a large book be crammed into 3 hours? Well they managed it very well and although I did get a numb bum at no point did I loose my concentration. I will try to give you an opinion without telling the plot or too much of the storyline for those who havn't seen it or read the book. The film started with an informative narrative set in "Middle Earth", which I presume is for those of us who havn't read the book. It explains the origins of the rings and the significance of the one main controlling ring. The setting does seem very familliar to the middle or dark ages. This ring is lost and then there is a two and a half thousand year gap. It is found by accident by human like animal called a Hobbit, his name is Bilbo Baggins....the story skips another 60 years and the all powerful ring passes to Frodo Baggins and the story then gets underway. It is a ...

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition w/SP2 Complete package 30/12/2001

Is XP compatible

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition w/SP2 Complete package Is your system compatable? Before purchasing Windows XP upgrade I suggest you read on... I had just finished building my new P.C. around an Athlon 1.4 when I realised that my new cordless keyboard and mouse was not compatable with my version of windows 98, I decided my new monitor would look better if I installed the new Windows XP update....what an expensive mistake....All of the hardware was brand new except the CD-RW which was 4 months old. The update installed with ease and to my delight the keyboard and mouse drivers were found by windows and were now working fine.... then I realised I had problems. I tried to connect to the internet but my USB modem would not work, after re-installing it's driver and playing around with the settings I gave up and intalled the old PCI modem from my old computer, this worked fine. I connected to the net and checked to see if there was a problem with that manufacturers software. According to Microsoft the modem is compatable, it is not. Next I connected to the microsoft update page and it ran a scan on my P.C.....horror my DVD decoder, my CD-RW and my sound driver software was not compatable. I now had a pretty looking screen with a cordless mouse and keyboard, 2 CD ROM drives, no sound and an old pci modem. After spending hours running into days surfing the net for drivers and software to run my hardware I have found that I will have to purchase new software for my CD-RW at a cost of £45 new DVD decoder software at £20 and I ...
