Alcatel Pop 4 23/03/2017

Alcatel Pop 4 Has Ruined Me For Other Phones!

Alcatel Pop 4 Introduction I feel like iPhones are getting so much attention that people are forgetting about other phones and their value. Up until a few months ago, I had an iPhone 5 and I was honestly sick of it - it's a good phone, I just didn't like the lack of storage and the lack of personalisation options, it just wasn't the phone for me. So, I decided to go back to my Android phones, and I don't regret it. I got an Alcatel Pop 4 completely spontaneously; I was looking for a new phone (after being fed up of iPhones) and I came across Alcatel Pop 4, and I got it for my birthday. I've had it for about three months now, and I love it. I'm not the type of person to appreciate technology, but I can't see myself getting bored of this phone. First Impressions I originally got this phone because I saw it was an option for my next phone to carry on my contract, but there was an option of around twenty phones, and I chose this one. I think I was looking more at the feel of the phone, I like how 'back', 'home', and 'tab' buttons are shaped: the 'home' button is a circle, the 'back' button is a side-ways triangle, and the 'tab' button (the button which brings up all your open tabs) is a square. The circle always shows up, but the other two light up when you touch them. The physical appearance was the first thing I noticed, but when the phone came I found a lot more about it that was good. For example, the camera on Android phones are usually bad, but I have a professional and ...

The Birds (DVD) 22/03/2017

I'll Never Look At A Flock Of Birds The Same Again...

The Birds (DVD) Introduction A few weeks ago, I realised how little films I had seen in my life and I wanted to enjoy a range of genres. So I decided to start doing themed movie weeks - this week is Alfred Hitchcock week. I really enjoyed 'Psycho' and ended up watching it several times, so I wanted to watch a few of his others and watch out for his cameo in all of them. I enjoy Hitchcock films because they differ from other films in so many ways, but the story seems to matter more than the effects, therefore the story always seems to be better because it's the main focus. Anyway, when I mentioned Hitchcock week to my parents, my mum said to me, ''Watch 'The Birds'! It's a brilliant film,'' although she can't remember most of it because she watched it when she was a kid. So we all sat down to watch the film together tonight - me, my dad, and my mum. My dad hasn't done well with Hitchcock films because, to use his words, they 'go on for too long', but I think that each part of his films focus more on engaging with the characters and building up suspension, so the fact that the films are over two hours long never really bothers me. The Story A woman (Melanie) meets a man (Mitch) in a pet store and tracks him down to find where he lives to deliver some lovebirds to his sister for her birthday, but she ends up staying the whole weekend. One day, a flock of birds start attacking and there are several severe attacks. The film kind of reminded me of a bird version of 'The Walking Dead', ...

Thirteen Reasons Why - Jay Asher 22/03/2017

''No One Knows How Much They Impact Other People's Lives''

Thirteen Reasons Why - Jay Asher Introduction I've been looking for new books to read recently as I decided 2017 was going to be my year for reading hundreds of books, and I'm currently reading one or two books a week. I started off my reading with Thirteen Reasons Why because it's becoming a TV show on Netflix starting on the 31st March. I always like to read something before I watch it on TV because it frees my imagination and then I can see how the TV show compares to how I imagined the story. Not just that, but the story was fascinating to me. I saw this book in a book store when I was in town looking around for a new book, and I remembered that it was becoming a TV show directed by Selena Gomez, and that the storyline was good and that it was highly recommended by readers - so I bought it on my iPad (because it was cheaper than in the bookstore). I finished this book in 24 hours because I was so hooked I couldn't put it down. The Story The story is told from the point of view of Clay, whose (sort of friend, but more like acquaintance) committed suicide and then sent him thirteen tapes, each containing one reason why she killed herself. The message is that if you're sent these tapes then you're one of the reasons why, which confuses Clay and makes him want to listen to all of them to get to his story. Hannah and Clay had a complicated history; they worked together, went to school together, spoke a few times, and he had a huge crush on her, but they were never close. Clay repeatedly wonders in ...

Dove Summer Glow Body Lotion 19/03/2017

Dove Summer Glow: Tan All Year Round!

Dove Summer Glow Body Lotion Introduction I got a group of scars on my legs for no apparent reason and they made me insecure; it probably also didn't help that I am naturally extremely pale, so any sort of imperfections are very obvious. I always liked the idea of being tanned instead of being pale and hiding those scars a bit more, so when my mum saw this in town she thought of me and picked it up to give me so I could try it. At first I had very little hope that this product would work, I hated the idea of fake tan (which goes everywhere) so I had a little more hope in this product, but not much more. I tried it the first day I got it, and I was astonished. First Impressions The first time I applied Dove: Summer Glow, I first noticed that it made my skin extremely smooth. As someone who is obsessed with feeling healthy and having soft skin, I can confirm that this works wonders on that front. Upon first appliance you can feel a huge difference with how your skin feels. I did notice that it took a long time to dry, but this didn't really bother me; I put it on everywhere so that nowhere looked odd and patchy, and the next morning I had a glow on my skin that I noticed everywhere. I've noticed that the more I use it, the darker my skin gets. However, if you use it too much your skin can go patchy. I noticed this when I woke up with my whole body dark brown with only my chest, knees, and little patches on my arms pale white. That's when I decided to take it all off and re-apply, so I don't have ...

Happy Tree Friends (DVD) 07/03/2017

Happy Tree Friends: Where Nobody is Happy and Nobody is Friends

Happy Tree Friends (DVD) Introduction I don't actually have the DVD, but I do pay for Netflix which has the full first season on there. I came across Happy Tree Friends when scrolling across the 'Recommended For You' list, it was recommended because my boyfriend uses my Netflix and has watched Jackass. When we read 'Because you watched Jackass' we were confused - how was this TV show with all these cute animals anything in relation to Jackass, a program with people who do stupid stuff for TV? We got curious, and we watched an episode - and another one. Not because we enjoyed it, but because we couldn't quite grasp the concept of this TV show and exactly what it was supposed to be for. The show is rated 12 on Netflix, but I can't imagine a 12-year-old watching Happy Tree Friends; when I was 12, I was watching Hannah Montana and Camp Rock! But this... this is something else. First Impressions My first thought was how cute the animated little animals are, but the moment that a group of them got killed on a very dangerous roller-coaster, I was starting to wonder what on earth I was watching. So basically, a group of film-makers, directors, writers, producers, etc. get together each week and say ''So, what horrific way can we make these cute, misleading characters die this week?'' It was horrific. I'd never seen anything like it. I can deal with violence, I don't mind it, almost everything I watch has violence in it. It's nothing to me. However, this show bothered me because it was literally ...

Valentine's Day: Do you love it or hate it? 09/02/2017

I Just Can't Get Excited About Valentine's Day...

Valentine's Day: Do you love it or hate it? If it weren't for social media's constant reminder that a holiday is coming, I wouldn't even know about Valentine's Day. Maybe I'm just too young to celebrate romance and maybe I'm just not a romantic person, but I just can't seem to get excited about Valentine's Day. Every single year I forget that Valentine's Day is approaching, and I've never been excited about it whereas I've had friends who have been over the moon with excitement for the day. I'm not the least romantic person in the world, but I don't believe in the things that happen in movies; nobody dresses up and picks up their partner, takes them out for an expensive meal and then sit and watch the stars - no, it just doesn't happen. And even if it did, I wouldn't want it. I believe that romance is the little things. It's easy to be romantic for one day, but it's the other days that are important to me. The romance that I want, personally, is asking about my day, listening when I want to rant about something or cry about something, making me a cup of coffee when I'm sad - the little things. As for Valentine's Day, well, I'd prefer to lay in bed and watch TV all day as apposed to going out for dinner or any other typical Valentine's Day cliche. Baring in mind, I am only young, so I'm still having to decide how I feel about certain things and who I am - Valentine's Day isn't one of those things. It's great to have a day dedicated to your partner and your love for each other, if that's what other couples want, ...

Polar Loop 2 09/02/2017

Polar Loop 2: Is There Anything it Can't Do?

Polar Loop 2 Introduction For Christmas, I got a new exercise bike - I'm about one elliptical trainer away from having my own home gym - so my dad thought it would be good to also get me a Polar Loop - something I'd honestly never heard of until that day, I hadn't even considered it - now I can't imagine not having one. Anyway, it was the first thing I opened up to put on charge on Christmas morning and I used it the same day to see what features it has - and it has a lot of features. I thought it was just for tracking exercise, but the more I use it the more I find that there's many more uses for it than I thought. First Impression After charging it for the first time, my dad thought it was a good idea to charge it and try it, to make sure it works. The first thing I noticed was that it was incredibly smooth - and aesthetically pleasing, too. The Polar Loop comes in black, white and pink, and the one I have is pink. I'm not usually a fan of the colour pink, but the Polar Loop isn't bad to look at. My first thought was: ''How the hell do I work this thing?'' because I realised, after looking at the instructions, that you have to cut it to your own wrist size. I didn't trust myself to cut it, so my dad did it (because, to be honest, he probably wouldn't trust me with it, either). But it turned out to be quite simple and now I never have to worry about it not fitting my wrist or being uncomfortable. Uses Polar Loops have many more uses than I first realised, and I'm still ...

One Tree Hill season 1 boxset 07/02/2017

There's Only One Tree Hill...

One Tree Hill season 1 boxset Introduction I've always been a huge fan of 90210 and teenage high school dramas, and because I was a fan of 90210 I was pointed in the direction of One Tree Hill by my sisters who loved watching this growing up. I recently finished season one, and I took myself straight out to buy season two - I'm addicted. Plot Half-brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott start off with a rocky relationship when their dad (who favours one over the other) encourages Nathan to take down Lucas when they end up on the same basketball team in High School - that's just the beginning of the drama. There's also relationship problems, family problems, and a whole lot more to come. The plot basically revolves around a group of friends who are each dealing with their own life problems, and although sometimes it's nothing but drama, most of the time there's relatable storylines and characters - and flawless acting! The series ran from 2003-2012, with 9 seasons. Season 1 is just the beginning of a long road. Advantages One Tree Hill (season 1) is very addictive from the very first scene. I struggle with getting into TV shows at first but something about this was immediately engaging. I already felt like I knew all the characters, all their stories, and I was hooked fro there. Sometimes it's very inspiring, especially the coach basketball coach Whitey, in my opinion. He's quite an old man who is trying to live his life after losing his wife, and episode after episode we see more of him and ...

Benefit Goof Proof Eyebrow Pencil 11/01/2017

Make Your Eyebrows Beautiful with Benefit

Benefit Goof Proof Eyebrow Pencil Introduction I'm not really the makeup kind of girl, I don't like complicated makeup and I much prefer wearing as little as possible. I don't enjoy wearing makeup nor do I enjoy applying it, but sometimes it gives me a bit of confidence to leave the house. I've find my perfect mascara and foundation, all I needed was something to do my eyebrows with that was simple, and just shaped and darkened my eyebrows to suit my hair colour (as my eyebrows are actually a lot lighter than my hair). One day, I got a sample delivered to me for 'Goof Proof Brow Pencil' by Benefit, and I was shocked. I wasn't expecting it. But I thought it was a great idea because it gave girls the chance to try it and purchase another one if they liked it, and not use it if they don't. I've long since wished this could be the way with all items, because then I could try things before buying them and know I won't be disappointed. First Impression Furthermore, I did my makeup that day just to see how well it worked with the rest of my makeup and whether or not it complimented my eyebrows. The first thing I thought was that the pencil was aesthetically pleasing, it had a nice touch to it and because it's silver with pink text on it, it always stood out when I was looking for it in my makeup bag. After the application, I realised that there was much more to this little pencil than just its looks - it also worked really well. It was simple, just liked I had hoped. It wasn't a complicated thing that ...

Advent calendars: do they still have a place in your home? 17/11/2016

You're NEVER Too Old For Advent Calendars!

Advent calendars: do they still have a place in your home? Introduction Advent calendars have been a huge part of my Christmas ever since I was a child, for as long as I can remember. Every day when I woke up, the first thing I did was get a chocolate out of my advent calendar - I don't think that'll ever change. Although I'm turning 18 right before Christmas this year, I'll definitely still have my advent calendar. Why? I'm still a child at heart, and Christmas brings that side of me out. I get extremely excited every day of Christmas. Every day when I first get out of bed (usually waking up early from excitement that it's a day closer to Christmas), I get my chocolate for the day. Each door that I open reminds me of how close it is to my favourite day of the year, and it makes the whole month exciting! I suppose advent calendars are more exciting when you're a child, but there's no reason that adults and teenagers can't enjoy them, too! It's like regular chocolate except it represents my favourite holiday, and instead of looking at your calendar to remind yourself how close it is to Christmas, you look at your advent calendar and even get a chocolate! Christmas Just Isn't The Same Without Them! I suppose I could just be excited about advent calendars because they've become a yearly tradition in my home, I don't know, but for some reason I just can't imagine a Christmas without advent calendars. I can still get excited like a child when I see the different shapes of Chocolates (usually representing Christmas e.g. trees ...

Everybody Loves Raymond (Complete Boxset) (DVD) 14/11/2016

Everybody Should Try 'Everybody Loves Raymond'

Everybody Loves Raymond (Complete Boxset) (DVD) Introduction When I sold a bunch of Xbox games, I decided to get the boxset of 'Everybody Loves Raymond' - it was a bit pricey given that it's a full boxset (seasons 1 to 9) but I think it was worth every penny. I used to watch the show on TV as it plays around two or three episodes every morning on some channels - however, I've forgotten the names. Now that I've got the boxset, I've really had a chance to fall in love with Raymond and his crazy family. Plot 'Everybody Loves Raymond' is a comedy TV show that ran from 1995 to 2005, based around a man called Raymond Barone - a sports writer who lives with his wife, daughter and twin boys. Also, adding to the family chaos, his parents, Marie and Frank, and his brother, Robert, live across the street; this wouldn't be so bad if his parents weren't strange, judgmental and over at the house every single day. The show is based around a devoted husband who tackles the everyday struggle of being a husband and parent but also battles with extremely challenging parents and a jealous older brother. However, that's just the start of the comedy - these characters are extremely engaging and although they are all funny in their own ways, you can also get to know the stories of each character during the time of watching them and maybe even start feeling sympathy for the characters you didn't think you would. This is the comedic everyday struggle of Ray Barone's life. Characters and Actors Ray Barone (Ray Romano) - a successful ...

Member Advice on Anxiety 10/11/2016

Anxiety: Knocks You Down and Makes You Stronger!

Member Advice on Anxiety What is Anxiety? Anxiety is a part of all of us, anxiety is an instinct in all human beings. When we are attacked or we're in a life-or-death situation, our body starts to shake and our heart starts to pound - this is our bodies way of telling us we're in danger, and we act out of instinct to save ourselves. This is what anxiety is mean to do, to save us from any danger, but instead it causes us unwelcome panic and distress. We all feel anxious at time, but it becomes an anxiety disorder when it's constant, full-on anxiety that often happens for no reason. For example, someone with anxiety may constantly count the money in their hands before purchasing something even though they know they have the right amount. Obviously, in these situations we are not in danger, but this is when our own body seems to be against us. Yes, anxiety is meant to save our lives - for example, helping us to run faster when running away from danger - but in some cases, it ruins it instead. Some people experience anxiety where they constantly think negative thoughts and some people have constant panic attacks - some people are unlucky enough to have both. Types of Anxiety Disorders Anxiety disorders are very common, approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK suffer from anxiety disorders. There are different types of anxiety disorders, such as: * Social anxiety disorder * Generalised anxiety disorder * Panic disorder * Agoraphobia (There are a few more such as obsessive compulsive disorder and ...

Christmas: How early is too early to start promotions and decorations ? 07/11/2016

'Tis The Season To Be Jolly - Or Is It?

Christmas: How early is too early to start promotions and decorations ? Christmas is the best time of year for some, the worst time of year for others. But some people love it so much that they want to start celebrating a month early, in November! Why Celebrate Early? Well, why not? We've waited all year for Christmas to come back around and it's so soon, being less than a month away from the 1st of December - that's when we can really start to celebrate! Christmas is always exciting, and as soon as it hits the chilly month of November the first thing we think is ''Christmas is soon!'' So why shouldn't we be able to get that Christmas spirit a little bit early? It could be a little too soon for decorations, as that takes the whole 'decorating-on-the-first-of-December' thing away from children and families (or anyone, really) but there's no harm in preparing for the holiday by listening to Christmas songs, watching Christmas films and buying yourself some cute hats and/or outfits! It's the excitement before the real excitement comes in December. Why Not To Celebrate Early Christmas is and always will be in December, so the time for decorations and Christmas parties and dress-ups isn't here yet, but what's the harm in getting jolly and excited? There's already TV adverts with Christmas songs and Christmas films being advertised again. That's because it's all we're thinking of in November. November is our pre-Christmas excitement. If we were to celebrate Christmas in November, eventually Christmas would get boring, wouldn't it? Imagine ...

Life is Strange (Xbox One) 07/11/2016

Life Is Strange (For Xbox One) Is Strangely Good!

Life is Strange (Xbox One) A few weeks ago I played the first episode of 'Life Is Strange' because the first episode is free on Xbox One. After the first episode, I was hooked, and after earing a little bit of money I decided to spend it on the limited edition version of the game - I don't regret it one bit. What is 'Life Is Strange'? 'Life Is Strange' is a video game available for Xbox, PC, PlayStation, etc. and it follows a storyline where YOU make the decisions that effect the story. Basically, whatever you choose to do in the story effects the outcome of what will happen. It all revolves around a young girl in school called Max Caulfield who suddenly realises that she can go back in time. You play as Max, and you can change whatever you decide by turning back time and taking photographs along the way that gets you achievements. Each decision you make reveals a different outcome; not only is Max dealing with the normal school drama, but she's also hiding her huge secret that only her and Chloe can know about. 'Life Is Strange' 10/10 - Steam Why Should You Play 'Life Is Strange'? Escape your own life for a while as you play a girl who can mess with time whilst also trying to find a serial killer and find a shocking twist at the end. You can spend five episodes with Max (season two confirmed for next year) and I guarantee, by the end of episode one you will be hooked! 'Life Is Strange' is different from any other game because it's like watching a TV show but actually being that person ...

Staying Strong: A Journal - Demi Lovato 01/06/2016

Everybody Needs a ''Staying Strong'' Journal

Staying Strong: A Journal - Demi Lovato What Is ''Staying Strong: A Journal''? Staying Strong: A Journal is a book by singer Demi Lovato encouraging people who have purchased the book to write in it. The purpose of the journal is to write anything you want, be creative. After a lifetime of 'looking on the dark side', this book encouraged me because I write down everything positive in my life and when I feel alone or upset, I flick through it and remember all the things that I have to be happy about. I use this journal to write down anything that helps me with my anxiety. For example, I wrote down some advice my friends gave me, some things that make me happy, some encouraging letters (because, let's face it, the best advice you can get is the advice from yourself!) and many, many more things. I have found this incredibly useful. I bought the journal months ago when I first heard about it and ever since I have kept it in the drawer next to my bed. Every night before I go to sleep I fill in a little bit or I just read over it so that instead of thinking negatively I start to think positively. As Demi has been a major influence on me for years, I had one hundred percent faith that whatever ideas she comes up with for a book will be brilliant - I wasn't wrong. What's The Point of the Journal? Demi leaves a message inside that reads: One of the most important things I've learned on my journey is the importance of channeling my emotions and expressing myself, which everyone does differently. I like to read ...
