Braun Satin HAIR 7 ES 2 /ST 710 22/11/2007

CIAO PLEASE DELETE THIS REVIEW

Braun Satin HAIR 7 ES 2 /ST 710 I was really impressed with these hair straighteners. My last pair had been bought for me by an ex from SAKS hairdressers, were fantastic, and broke neary two years later. The first thing I noticed when shopping around was the amount which prices for hair straightening products had dropped - presumably because of increased competition in the market! I was ready to take full advantage of this. I ordered the Braun ES 2 Ion shine Satinliner from amazon for just over £40, which I was really impressed with given the price of my laset ones! They weren't the cheapest ones about, you can find them for about a tenner now but I always think it is better with these kinds of things to just pay a little bit more to get a reliable product. The Braun ES 2 Ion shine Satinliner straighteners arrived really quickly so naturally I was very eager to try them out. My hair is naturally very this, dark and curly so as a change or sometimes when I go out I straighten my hair. I don't tend to do it everyday because it just tends to take too long for my hair to get a nice sleek shiny straight look. The straighteners themselves were sleek and black with a silver ceramic plate on them which looked very stylish. They are quite thin, which is very good for short hair. Although my hair isn't really very short, I still prefer to stick to the thinner straighteners, probably just because i'm used to them, but I find them easier to manipulate. On the top, there is a large display, on which you can ...

I bought mine from amazon for £90 which I think is really good value for money for this stylish little number. (it also arrived quickly, I was very impressed.) I decided to choose this camera as I have a samsung mobile phone and I found Samsung products very easy to use as well as being aesthetically pleasing. I haven't (touch wood) found this camera to be a disappointment. I have the silver one, although it comes in pink as well from some places (the price might be higher for novelty though.) The camera itself, is very compact and stylish which made it very attractive to me, as I didn't want to have a big bulky camera to lug around with me everywhere. As it is small and light, it is perfect for carrying around ...

Elect The Dead [Digipak] - Serj Tankian 19/11/2007

Elect Serj

Elect The Dead [Digipak] - Serj Tankian The long awaited new solo album from System of a down's lead singer, Serj Tankian is finally here and it is FANTASTIC. Released in October this year, (22nd in Uk, I think....) this album will provide winter warming! Track listing. "Empty Walls" - 3:49 "The Unthinking Majority" - 3:46 "Money" - 3:53 "Feed Us" - 4:31 "Saving Us" - 4:41 "Sky Is Over" - 2:57 "Baby" - 3:31 "Honking Antelope" - 3:50 "Lie Lie Lie" - 3:33 "Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition" - 4:23 "Beethoven's Cunt" - 3:13 "Elect the Dead" - 2:54 I have been a big fan of system of a down for a long time now and I have always admired the way in which Serj Tankian uses his voice throughout their music. In a split second he is able to change from a heavy metal style scream to beautiful melodic singing to staccato notes with a polka feel, to a haunting whisper. System of a down are known for this ecclectic style and it carries on through wonderfully to his own solo work. This album uses a great mixture of musical instruments, from very heavy metal style guitars and drums to keyboards, synthesizers, drum programming, melodicas and bells. The first song I heard off this album which was recently released as a single was 'the unthinking majority'. The first thing that sprung to mind was that this song really had a kind of Danny Elfman feel to it, particularly resembling his work for the recent Charlie and the Chocolate factory score. The song, however, true to expectations leaps ...

Rimmel Hide The Blemish Ivory 10/11/2007

Hide the Blemish

Rimmel Hide The Blemish Ivory I bought this foundation following a recomendation from a friend, as i was looking for something to cover up any dark areas under my eyes to make myself look more awake and fresh. The product cost around £4 from Tesco, which seemed like a fair price as it does last quite a long time. (obviously depending on what you use it for) It comes in a stick with the same kind of design as a lip balm stick. The tube itself if mostly ivory, with a black base. the size and shape of this product make it perfect for carrying around in a handbag or purse for top-ups. I bought the lightest shade, to combat my dark areas an found that it provided good coverage, was a nice shade and really provided the effect that I was looking for. I use it sometimes on my undereye area underneath foundation and was pleased to find that it went well underneath the foundation and provided a nice surface to work with other make up on. As i mentioned before, I did find the product to have quite good staying power, as it was quite thick - going even further to making it worth the £4 I paid for it. This, however, didn't cause a problem when removing the make-up, i found that it came off quite easily and didnt leave any kind of residue One thing about this product which i didnt like was the texture. Being in a stick, the product is quite hard. This texture does make it quite long lasting but it also means that you have to be a little rougher with the under eye area than I like to be. I think that it is ...

Rimmel Eyeliner Pen 10/11/2007

eye eye

Rimmel Eyeliner Pen I have been using this eyeliner for years now and it has never let me down so I thought I would just come on and give it a little praise. This eyeliner, as far as I am aware (and I have looked around to try other brands) is the best of its kind within its price range. One of the most important factors with liquid eyeliner is that it is long-lasting and able to withstand a days worth of wear and tear. Many other liquid eyeliners that I have tried have become flakey or smudged as the day has gone one, leaving me looking tired and a bit like I was still wearing last night's make up! I have found, especially with some of the cheaper brands, that once dry, they can become very plastic or rubber- like and the eyeline can just come off in one strip. Others, I have found to just itch and flake off. I am happy to say that I have not experienced any of these things with this eyeliner; the colour goes on well and stays all day long looking almost as good as when it was first applied. The colour of this eyeliner is also really good. It is bold and not watery as some of the other versions from other companies can be. I find that the most dramatic is black and so this is the one I usually wear, although there is also a brown version which is a little more subtle and can look really beautiful. This eyeliner is also relatively easy to apply, although I did find it took quite a bit of practise at first. It is best to try and apply it using one solid movement, as this tends to create ...

Bang for the Buck - Ugly Duckling 09/11/2007

plenty of bang for your buck

Bang for the Buck - Ugly Duckling Track listing "Bang For The Buck" "Yudee!" "The Breakdown" "Left Behind" "Smack" "Einstein's On Stage" "Let It Out" "Lower the Boom" "Andy Vs Dizzy" "Slow The Flow" "Shoot Your Shot" "The End Of Time" This is the latest offering from ugly duckling, one of my favourite groups. Made up of Dizzy Dustin, Young Einstein and Andy Cooper, the three make a killer combination. The appealing thing about them is the way in which they combine different musical styles with hip hop to make it more appealing to people who may not necessarily be interesting in rap and hip hop as it is often percieved, like 50 cent and Dr Dre. Instead, Ugly Duckling remind me more of Jurassic 5 with just a little cheesy touch of will smith! There are also a few touches of De La Soul and A tribe called quest. This album does not, in my opinion have as many defining songs as journey to anywhere, their earlier album but the general sound and quality of the rapping stays up to standard. Most of the songs do tendto be quite similar and there is definetly an on-going feel throughout the album but I don't think any of the songs need to be skipped and listening to this album is guarenteed to leave you in a better mood! The songs are really uplifting and upbeat, combining classic hip hop beats and rapping, with tones of jazz, ugly duckling really know how to create a part feel. I tend to listen to this album when im getting ready to go out because i know that it will leave me feeling ...

Rimmel Recover Foundation 07/11/2007

re'cover up' this glittery sparkle fest

Rimmel Recover Foundation I thought I'd better come on an have a moan about yet another rimmer foundation! I chop and change with my foundations, although many of them tend to be within the same price range as this one as i'm a poor and lowly student. The packaging of this product sold it well - it promised to make me look more refreshed and presumably less hungover and tired. This seemed really appealing to me as i don't tend to get spots or have problem skin and so I use foundation mainly just to give my skin a healthy glow (and cover up the hang over.) I bought the product and tried it as soon as I got home. The bottle is a little bit glittery and so I suppose this was my first warning sign, but this foundation made my skin look sort of glittery. I don't know, I suppose I can see where they were coming from, the glittery effect brings more light reflecting off the face so it does sort of make you look more glowing and awake, but in reality it is just too much. It is impossible to make look natural and even though I didn't use very much, I still got asked by two of my friends why I had glitter on my face! (This glitter also made it quite difficult to remove) I have to say, however, I do thin k this is quite a good foundation for the evening. The glittery effect is too much in daylight but under dimmed, artificial light it looks more attractive. It is also less important in the evening to wear subtle, natural looking make-up so its major downfall isn't as important. I will give this ...

Charlie Passion Body Spray 07/11/2007

I'm moderatley passionate about charlie

Charlie Passion Body Spray I hadn't bought this product before recently, for the simple fact, (and I wont bother to sugar coat it), I can be a bit of a cheapskate and tend to buy supermarket own brands of body spray, or at least the cheaper ones that are available. Recently, however, through some kind of surge of self-indulgence (or, more likely, a special offer), I decided to splurge out and treat myself to this body spray. First, I must mention that I am a fan of body spray in general (as my housemates will tell you!) and do tend to use quite a lot of the stuff. Despite this fact, I to prefer body spray to perfume, as I find that the fragrance of them is less over-powering and smells less alcoholic. (I understand that this my sound a little bit incongruous coming from someone who stinks of eau de cheapo) This product has a stronger frangrance than I am used to (get what you pay for?), although I didn't, in this case find it off-putting. The frangrance was strong enough that I used less spray, (economically, environmentally and health wise less exhaustive) and lasted for a much longer time than other brands which I have used in the past. In this respect, I really was pleased with this product, and I think it actually has converted me from my bottom-shelf cheapo line. The frangrance itself is tangy and fruity, if erring on vomit inducingly sweet and sickly. I would advise having a quick whiff before you buy it, if at all possible, as I don't think that the frangrance would be for everyone, ...

Poor Aim (Love Songs) - Blow (The) 07/11/2007

The blow - Poor aim: Love songs

Poor Aim (Love Songs) - Blow (The) Track Listing Hey Boy The Sky Opened Wide Like the Tide Knowing the Things That I Know Let's Play Boys Chase Girls The Love That I Crave Hock It 'Come on Petunia' I love this album. There is something about Khaela Maricich's singing which makes this music so compelling and almost addictive. It sounds so honest uncontrived that something in it draws you in and compels you to listen to what she has to say. She has a kind of easy cool sound to her voice which makes it easy and enjoyable to listen to, as well making her songs even more catch and memorable! A lot of the lyrics on this album are interesting, beautiful and make you smile., For example on, "hey boy", a song about a boy not calling her back, Khaela goes through possible reasons, singing, "A) you're gay B) You have a girlfriend C) you kinda thought I came on too strong or D)I just wasn't your thing, no ring". This just has something brilliant in it's simplicity. This album doesn seem to be a bit more bitty, more of a kind of concept album than "paper television" (2006), as it came earlier but in some ways this adds to its charm. On this album, "hey boy" and "come on petunia" are the most catchy and memorable, although the other tracks are till good, these really do stand out as brilliant. Hey boy starts with a catchy beat, provided by Khaela Maricich's ex collborator, Jona. The song, on the whole, is very simplistic and basic and carries the electronic indie theme which is apparent ...

Paper Television - Blow (The) 07/11/2007

Will "blow" your mind

Paper Television - Blow (The) Track Listing 1 Pile of Gold 2 Parentheses 3 The Big U 4 The Long List Of Girls 5 Bonjour Jeune Fille 6 Babay (Eat A Critter, Feel Its Wrath) 7 Eat Your Heart Up 8 Pardon Me 9 Fists Up 10 True Affection I absolutely love this album! I first heard of the blow when i saw them (or her) in Manchester and fell in love. I just couldn't get a couple of the songs out of my head. One of these was True Affection which remains one of my favourite songs off the album. The Blow made up of two members, Khaela Maricich and Jona Bechtolt (Jona has gone on to work mainly with his other project, yacht), with Jona providing the beats and Khaela providing the singing and melodies. This really is in my opinion, a killer combination. Khaela's beautiful voice just seems so natural and her singing is heart-felt and touching, in a way that makes you really stop to listen to what she is saying. Her lyrics, congruous with this feeling are often touching and sweet, "If something in the deli aisle makes you cry, of course i'll put my arm around you and i'll walk you outside, through the sliding doors, why would I mind?"(Parentheses) Jona's beats provide a perfect accompliment to Khaela's singing, as they are simplistic creating an honest feel. In my mind, this album is made up of ten fantastic tracks, which all have a slightly different feel, from the lilting, "true affection" and "baybay", to the much more up beat, "Parenthesis" and "Fists" The general feel of the album ...

Rimmel Cool Matte 16Hr Mousse 02/10/2007

cool matte mousse

Rimmel Cool Matte 16Hr Mousse I have to say, I was a little disappointed with this product. Packaging For a start, the packaging of the product is misleading. Although it says the amount in the pot on the top in ml, there is not as much as it would appear, which I found slightly disappointing. As there is so much glass in the packaging, (largely making up for the lack of product) the container is quite heavy, making it inconvenient to carry aroun in a small handbag. The shape of the container is also quite large an bulky which has meant that it has been quite difficult for me to carry around as it takes up so much room. Application In terms of ease of application, this product also leaves something to be desired. It is what it says on the tin, a mousse founation. As a result of this I foun applying it to be quite clumsy an inexact as there obviously was no applicator an being quite thick, it was not very easy to apply evenly and smoothly with only fingers. Appearance I was expecting it to give my skin a nice, smooth even coverage, which was not the case. Instead, the foundation seemed to go on really thick and did not give me the subtle coverage that I was looking for, leaving some areas uncovered and some leaving me looking like I borrowed Jodie Marsh's trowel. I found the overall appearence of it to be just too much. It made the texture of my skin look uneven, making it actually look in worse condition than it really is! I also found it annoying that I was unable to find a shade ...

Crazy Colors Stargazer semi-Permanent Hair Colour 01/10/2007

short-lived vibrancy

Crazy Colors Stargazer semi-Permanent Hair Colour As far as I am aware, this is the best product of its kind on the market, within the price range. This product leaves the hair looking shiney and healthy and the colours are really vivid. It may be necessary to pre-lighten the hair to achieve really bold effects, especially if you have dark hair, as the product does not contain peroxide, but on fair or pre-lightened hair, these products will give stunning, vivid results. There are some downsides to this product as well. I found that the colour did not last as long as I would like. Although it hung around for a few washes, a lot of the brightness was lost in the first and second washes and so this could leave the hair looking a bit scuffy, instead of the neat bold, well groomed look I was going for. (well as well groomed as you can look with rainbow hair!) As I have very dark hair, it was necessary for me to lighten my hair before I used the product and I found that after several applications and since I had used bleach on my hair, after a while, as I suppose is to be expected, my hair became very dry and coarse and I began to get a lof of split ends. It would be nice if there were a product available on the market which was permanent as I really found that the colour did not last as long as i would have liked and certainly didn't stay up to the standard I would expect for the length of time it states on the box. This product really has a tendancy to run and to stain as well, staining pillowcases and towels and ...

Rimmel Volume Flash Mascara 01/10/2007

rimmel mascara

Rimmel Volume Flash Mascara As a fan of big long thick lashes, I loved this mascara. I found that the coverage was good and the colour was the nice bold black I was looking for. This mascara left me with thick bold lashes which i have found takes many more coats from other leading mascara brands. The mascara did not tend to get clumpy unless too much was applied; I am guilty of over-doing it at times but I was quite impressed. I also found that the shape of the brush was good for getting right into the corners of the eyes and was also quite good for putting on the lower lashes without blotching and giving me panda eyes. My eyes can sometimes be sensitive but I found that this product did not irritate my eyes, although it did occadionally have the tendancy to flake which did cause problems with my contact lenses. In terms of waterproofing, I was not so impressed. I found that at the first sign of sweat, this mascara left me looking like i'd just taken a right hook from an angry Jodie Marsh. I also felt like the packaging of this product was misleading, giving the impression that there was much more product inside the bulging tube than was actually produced and I found that it was used up and dried up quite quickly compared to other similar products. All in all, in terms of price and quality of the product, I was not overly impressed. This mascara can be bought for around five pounds and does give a dramatic effect, just don't necessarily expect the promise of waterproof mascara to be ...

Samsung SGH G600 01/10/2007

A technophobe's impression

Samsung SGH G600 I chose this phone initially as i was attracted, as im sure many other users were, by the impressive boast of a 5 mega pixel camera. As someone who does not own a digital camera, this was particularly appealing to me, my last phone having had a 1.3 mega pixel camera. My last phone was also a samsung and so despite my technophobic tendencies, I found this phone easy to use and familiar; im sure that many other people would find the same thing as the menu and general usability of the phone is practical and simple. This phone comes with all of the things that you might expect from a new mobile; impressive camera, MP3, internet, FM radio and bluetooth as well as all of the usual features such as a calender and alarm clock. One thing that this phone is missing, however is video calling, although I find this idea unappealing so to me it is unimportant. I have to admit, I was slightly disappointed by the camera on this phone. Before recieving this phone, I briefly owned a sony eriksson K810i cybershot phone with a 3.2 megapixel camera, which i had to send back because I preferred the samsung which I was more equipped to use. I found the camera on this phone to be much more blurry and difficult to use than the one on the sony eriksson phone and so that has left me a little disappointed, however this may be down to my own incompetency.I have also found that it is impossible to store music and other files onto the memory card which was provided with the phone. In terms of ...
