LEGO The Hobbit - There And Back Again

LEGO The Hobbit (PS4) LEGO THE HOBBIT (PS4) Oh Lego games, you simply are the best. Seriously they're so fun and and they manage to do games of franchises that I absolutely love! Star Wars? Check! The Lord of the Rings? Check! Harry Potter? Check! And now we have a game based on The Hobbit movie...but only two of them, hmm. If you've never played a Lego game before I recommend you do, they all should be reasonably cheap by now and a very fun to play, with someone else that is, all Lego games support local split screen, so grab a second controller and a friend, and get to work! Of course me and my Uncle picked this up to play on day release a while back to record a walkthough for YouTube (links at the bottom if you're interested), for some reason people love watching Lego games so we were excited to play and show the world one of our favourite universe, Middle Earth! While we do love The Hobbit films we had just come from playing Lego Lord of the Rings, and it shares the same world, so it didn't feel as fresh and new as it should have, but excellent all the same. Where this game has it's biggest flaw is unfortunately a year too early, they pushed this out upon the release of the successful The Hobbit the Desolation of Smaug, the second movie in the trilogy, completely leaving out The Hobbit the Battle of the Five Armies! It would've been nice to have the entire trilogy but they wanted a Lego game to be released that year so we don't even get the full movie experience in Lego form, there aren't ...

Funko POP Vinyl Figure Golden Smaug - Beautful, Simply Beautiful

Funko Pop! Vinyl The Hobbit Gold Smaug FUNKO POP VINYL GOLDEN SMAUG FIGURE Look into his eyes, his big dark eyes and tell me that isn't the most beautiful thing you've ever seen! Casually walking around Forbidden Planet looking for a pop vinyl figure, as I try to but at least one ever two weeks or so. And this caught my attention. I had the choice of two regular pop vinyls or this beauty, as it's understandably a bit more expensive than others. With my Uncle beside me he whispered into my ear 'do it'll regret it if you don't'. I'm so glad I listened to him as I then found out these are Limited Edition, different to the regular Smaug you can but, and I purchased for a decent price, noticing that it was a lot more expensive online. Seriously, he looks fantastic, and is currently the best I own from my entire collection, he's big, golden and simply looks amazing, it really stands out on my shelf and whenever someone walks it they can't help but stare either. Of course having bought him I need to buy the rest of the Hobbit figures, so below is a list of other Hobbit figures that are currently available. * Azog * Gandalf * Bilbo Baggins * Bilbo Invisible * Legolas Greenleaf * Thorin Oakenshield * Sauron (looks amazing) * Regular Smaug * Tauriel All look great, you can even but Gollum but he's extremely rare and costs quite a bit, this particular item cost me £14.99 which is completely worth it, regular figures cost £9.99 so the extra £5 didn't really bother me, especially with the fact that they don't stock ...

Outlast (PS4) 16/07/2015

Outlast - Simply Terrifying

Outlast (PS4) OUTLAST This is an indie horror game that has been done spectacularly. It really captures those scary moments throughout other horror games and even movies and manages to make an enjoyable 5 hour adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I had been anticipating this for a long long time, as I do gameplay videos on YouTube as a hobby (I'll leave a link at the bottom) I couldn't wait to get my hands on this horror to record and react to live, especially after hearing how scary it actually was. Eventually it was released on Playstation 4 and we sat down to record and finished the game at a weekend, including the 'Whistleblower' DLC that was just as fun if not better at times. What people need to know about this horror game is it isn't your well known AAA horror where you're able to beat the hell out of enemies like Silent Hill or Resident Evil, no. This is a horror, like I said, like the movies where you're going to have to run away from enemies and attempt to hide or stealth your way around, something I personally love as it adds a level of intensity you can't get with other games. STORY Miles Upshur, a freelance investigative journalist, receives an anonymous tip from a source identified only as a whistleblower. The lead tells of inhumane experiments committed at Mount Massive Asylum, a remote psychiatric hospital situated deep in the mountains of Lake County, Colorado and owned by the Murkoff Corporation, known for its corrupt dealings. Entering the asylum, ...

Focus (Blu-Ray) 15/07/2015

Focus...On Margot Robbie And You'll Be Fine

Focus (Blu-Ray) FOCUS Having just been released on blu-ray I was very quick to pick Focus up, having heard mixed reviews about it I wasn't expecting film of the year or anything. I was very intrigued upon hearing that it was a con movie, they're usually very enjoyable and can have plenty of great moments throughout. And to make it even better Will Smith and the beautiful Margot Robbie were the lead stars of the movie. Unfortunately they're what hold this movie up, without them it would have been a complete failure, at least for me. We'll talk more about them soon but for now all I'll say is they work very well together and I'm excited to see them in the upcoming movie 'Suicide Squad'. Where this movie faults is with it's general plot and underwhelming ending. That's not to say it doesn't have it's fun scenes, it does, but this movie peaks in the first half of the movie, for me at least. STORY Nicky (Will Smith) is a seasoned master of misdirection who becomes involved with a novice con artist (Margot Robbie). As he's teaching her the tricks of the trade, she gets too close for comfort, and he breaks it off. Three years later, Jess - now an accomplished femme fatale - shows up in Buenos Aires during the high-stakes race-car circuit, throwing Nicky off his game in the middle of his latest dangerous scheme. Like I said this movie does have some great scenes, especially the scene in the football stadium, it was uncertain where that scene was going to go and had a good outcome. Unfortunately ...

The 100 Season 1 (Blu-ray) 14/07/2015

The 100 Season 1 - Additively Enjoyable

The 100 Season 1 (Blu-ray) THE 100 SEASON 1 I had been meaning to watch The 100 for quite a while, I know Season 2 has just finished airing and Season 3 is in the works, and I had heard good things about the show. Not amazing things, but still good. With a strong set of characters, where I actually liked the majority of, and an engaging story that will make you become an addict of television, The 100 is definitely one to keep a look out for. Being described as a mix between The Hunger Games and The Lord of the Flies how can you possibly go wrong with a purchase like that. Will it didn't hook me straight away, with a pretty laughable script for the Pilot episode, you quickly begin to get to know and care for the characters and get involved in the story, just get past the Pilot episode and you'll be fine. STORY Ninety-seven years after nuclear Armageddon destroyed our planet, humanity's sole survivors live on the Ark, an ageing space station experiencing overpopulation and inadequate resources. Faced with difficult choices, the Ark leaders - Chancellor Thelonious Jaha, Chief Medical Officer Abby Grffin and the pragmatic Councillor Marcus Kane - decide to send 100 juvenile prisoners back to Earth to test it's living conditions. Among them are Clark, Abby's daughter; the daredevil Finn; and illegal siblings Bellamy and Octavia. With the survival of humanity in their hands, the 100 must learn to rise above their own differences and forge a new path on a wild and dangerous landscape that teems with ...

Arrow Season 1 (Blu-ray) 13/07/2015

Arrow Season 1 - Hooded Legend

Arrow Season 1 (Blu-ray) ARROW SEASON 1 Here we have my tenth favourite TV show of all time currently, Arrow. Quite simply put one of the most fun and enjoyable shows you'll ever watch, especially if you're a fan of DC and heroes in general. While it has it's cheesy moments it manages to make up for in a gripping story, interesting villains, fun action (despite enemies missing with guns at close range), a wonderful cast of characters and surprisingly something that is well directed in general. Marvel has Daredevil and we have Arrow, both are very different but have similar qualities about them, it's a great time for TV shows. I've watched Season 1 three times in total now, and with 23 episodes altogether I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about at this point. With a strong start with 4.14 people tuning in for the first episode this show was highly anticipated, and while it gets off to a rocky start with a pretty laughable script in episode 1, it does eventually pick itself up and becomes better with each episode. STORY When presumed-dead billionaire playboy Oliver Queen returns home to Starling City after five years stranded on a remote island in the Pacific, he hides the changes the island had on him, while secretly seeking reconciliation with his ex, Laurel. By day he picks up where he left off, playing the cocky billionaire he used to be, but at night he has the alter ego of Arrow and works to right the wrongs of his family and restore the city to its former glory. Complicating his mission ...

The Purge: Anarchy (Blu-ray) 10/07/2015

The Purge Anarchy - Overrated Garbage

The Purge: Anarchy (Blu-ray) THE PURGE ANARCHY I'm not going to waster my time or yours here so I'll just say this movie is extremely poor and I was actually a bigger fan of the original, and unpopular opinion there but hey, this film was just laughable. Not only was it utterly boring, there was no plot which yes the first didn't have either, a weak cast, poor action scenes and is actually laughable at times. Now I enjoyed the first Purge film, was something that hadn't been done before, at least in terms of the general idea, because yes we've had villains attempting to break into a well fortified building more times than I can count. It wasn't a great movie but there was definitely enjoyment to be had from it, despite it having one of the most annoying kids put to movie, but at least it had Lena Heady & Ethan Hawke to make up for that. This has nothing, sure Frank Grillo is in it and he does a decent job with the piss poor scrip[t he was given, and is probably the most redeemable quality about this movie to be perfectly honest. You're not going to remember any characters names though, they're bland, they try to put character development but it just doesn't work and the acting can be even worse at times! I'm not going to spend too long on this review, I just needed to let people know how bad it is, but without further ado lets get into... POOR STORY As this year's annual purge (where all crime is legal for one night), Leo, an enigmatic loner haunted by the death of his son, wants revenge. Eva, a ...

The Maze Runner (Blu-ray) 09/07/2015

The Maze Runner - Not Enough Maze Running

The Maze Runner (Blu-ray) THE MAZE RUNNER I'll say straight away that this isn't a bad film, there are definitely a lot worse and it isn't the worst of 2014 either. But it just isn't that good either, if i could've given this 3 and a half stars I would've, but we're stuck with 3. The Maze Runner didn't interest me when it was released in cinema, I hadn't heard the greatest reviews about it, just mediocre things, and seeing the trailer it didn't really stand out to me personally. For the record I haven't read the books either, so I can't compare book to film like a lot of people are able to. When walking around HMV, as I do, I saw it and thought I'd give it a try, and I'll say this, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, it's a lot better then the Divergent series, just not as good as The Hunger Games. I compare it to those two franchises because they are very similar, based from books and involves teenagers dying of some sorts. First I'll start off with what I like and enjoyed about the film, the mystery at the start of the film, not the mystery at the end, some characters, the actual 'maze running', the location and some certain scenes. What I didn't like is the silly ending, boring flashbacks, Kaya Scodelario (in this movie, love her in Skins) and some certain scenes. I'll expand more on them below, but first let's talk about the story. STORY In this heart-pounding thriller based on the best selling novel, Thomas (Dylan O'Brien of MTV's Teen Wolf) wakes up trapped in a massive, ...

Gone Girl (Blu-ray) 08/07/2015

Gone Girl - 'You Don't Know What You've Got 'Til It's...'

Gone Girl (Blu-ray) GONE GIRL Congratulations David Fincher, you've done it again, you've impressed me beyond words. This man is undoubtedly in my top 5 director's of all time, each film he has done I've actually loved and am excited to see what he has planned for the future. Honestly, I wasn't even that excited for Gone Girl upon hearing about it, I hadn't seen all of David Fincher's work and hadn't read the best selling novel by Gillian Flynn, in which this film is based upon. But then I heard wonderful things about it, but had unfortunately not had the time to see in the cinema, so I had to wait until it was released on blu-ray, (because we don't watch movies online do we people?), and here we are. I couldn't keep my eyes off the screen the entire time, and this is an incredibly long movie, coming in at 142 minutes! But my favourite film of all time is The Lord of the Rings the Return of the King, so length doesn't bother me whatsoever, as long as it keeps me engaged and entertained. The performances here are phenomenal, especially the beautiful and talented Rosamund Pike, who I think should've have taken the Oscar for Best Female Actress, but it was a long time coming for Julianne Moore to take one too. Our future Batman, Ben Affleck also does a stellar job here, I've enjoyed most of his work, Argo & The Town are what stand out for me. Neil Patrick Harris makes an appearance for a while and hey guess what! Tyler Perry is here and he doesn't completely suck! STORY Directed by David Fincher ...

Kingsman: The Secret Service (Blu-ray) 07/07/2015

Kingsman The Secret Service - Smart, Stylish & Very Fun!

Kingsman: The Secret Service (Blu-ray) KINGSMAN THE SECRET SERVICE Well I had no idea where this came from! We've had some fantastic movies this year so far and this is definitely one of them, currently my second favourite of the year, Mad Max Fury Road taking the number one spot. I remember seeing the trailer for this movie late last year and thinking, if done right, this could be a really fun spy movie, and that's' exactly what it was and surpassed what I expected it to be. I went to the cinema to see this back in February, a time where typically there is nothing but garbage on at the cinema, yes, it's the same month as Fifty Shades of Grey was released which emphasises my point. After hearing wonderful things about it I was very excited to see it, I wasn't too sure at the start of the movie, but after about ten minutes I could see the direction in which it was heading for and quickly got on board, and loved every minute of it. This film is funny, well directed, has great characters and performances, fun action scenes and one of the coolest villains we've seen in a while, no I'm not talking about Samuel L. Jackson. It has some of the coolest gadgets we've seen put to screen and I applaud Matthew Vaughn for giving us such a great movie. STORY A super-secret-organisation recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency's ultra-competitive training programme just as a dire threat emerges from a twisted tech genius. Villainous Richmond Valentine launches a diabolical plan to solve the problem of ...

The Raid 2 (Blu-ray) 06/07/2015

The Raid 2 - 'The Greatest Action Film Ever'

The Raid 2 (Blu-ray) THE RAID 2 Brutal, absolutely brutal is the best way to describe this movie, but fantastically so. Is it the greatest action movie of all time? We'll get to that, you can watch and judge for yourself, but it's definitely up there amongst the best. While I enjoyed the first very much it didn't have much of a story to it, and everyone who has seen it agrees on that. But, because it was different and had some perfectly choreographed action scenes it quickly became a must see for movie fans. With the second being releases soon after I'd seen the first movie, I was straight into HMV and purchased it n day release, watched it with my uncle and absolutely loved it! This takes what made the first so spectacular and improves upon that, it has a great cast, those iconic action scenes we all love, set with a dark tone and this one even has a very well put together story line, not the greatest and does take a lot from 'The Godfather' but is done so well it surpasses that movie, yes, I prefer The Raid 2 to The Godfather, but that's just my personal opinion and I know a lot of people would disagree with me on that one. My second favourite movie of 2014, if you've read my other reviews then you know Whiplash was my favourite, and is one I can watch over and over again and never get bored of. STORY He thought it was over. After fighting his way out of a building filled with gangsters and madmen, rookie cop Rama thought he could resume a normal life. He couldn't have been more wrong. His ...

Nightcrawler (Blu-ray) 02/07/2015

Nightcrawler - 'Modern Masterpiece'

Nightcrawler (Blu-ray) NIGHTCRAWLER My third favourite movie of 2014, (Whiplash being first and The Raid 2 being second), I was extremely excited for this movie and had to wait extra long as I unfortunately missed it at the cinema, school boy error. After seeing the fantastic trailers that were put together for this movie I was curious, then once the reviews started rolling in, it grabbed my attention (Django reference for all of you movie fans). And after seeing Jake Gyllenhaal in one of the best movies of the year before 'Prisoners', seeing him take on a completely different role was a major factor that had me itching to see this, something he seems to be doing with the upcoming movie 'Southpaw'. Unfortunately after just missing this at the cinema I had a long while to wait until it was released on blu-ray, we don't watch films online, that's bad. Luckily it was completely worth the wait, not only did it live up to what I wanted it to be but it quickly became one my personal favourite movies of all time, not only does Jake Gyllenhaal do an absolute stellar job at the role he was given, the story is extremely original and has some truly iconic scenes and lines. STORY Down on his luck Lou Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) stumbles upon the dangerous, cut-throat world of freelance crime journalism. Discovering that filming murder and mayhem can be a quick way to make a buck. Aided by Nina (Rene Russo), a ruthless veteran of TV news, Lou combs LA's seedy underbelly for the city's most sensational news ...

Funko Pop! Vinyl Kill Bill Gogo Yubari 02/07/2015

Funko Pop Vinyl - Gogo Yubari Looks Badass!

Funko Pop! Vinyl Kill Bill Gogo Yubari FUNKO POP VINYL - GOGO YUBARI I'm officially a collector. Over 10 in total now and this was the tenth. I make sure to purchase one of these every week or two and quickly became a little hobby. I was lucky to find this one as I was just randomly searching for any and right at the back was Gogo, now Kill Bill being one of my all time favourite movies (review for Vol. 1 on my page), and Gogo being one of the greatest characters from that movie, this was a no-brainer for me. Everything about this particular figure is just awesome! Even the fact that the box is bright yellow let's you know this is an item from the Kill Bill franchise. As for Gogo herself, she's wearing the iconic school outfit with the mini skirt, with, of course the even more iconic weapon of hers. The ball and chain scene is one of, if not the best from the movie and to have this character on my shelf is a fantastic addition. OTHER KILL BILL FIGURES Now there are a total of 5 POP Vinyl Kill Bill figures, and one of which I would have personally chosen over this one, that being the main character 'The Bride', but she unfortunately was nowhere to be seen. Others include, 'Bill' himself with a tiny sword, 'O-Ren Ishii' in her long white gown, one of the 'Crazy 88' in the well known black mast with a samurai, and then our very own 'Gogo Yubari' MY NEW COLLECTION I purchased this for £9.99 at Forbidden Planet and I can promise it's definitely worth that much, the most expensive I have bought there is a Golden ...

It Follows (Blu-ray) 01/07/2015

It Doesn't Think. It Doesn't Feel. It Doesn't Give Up. It Follows

It Follows (Blu-ray) IT FOLLOWS Well, I have to say I'm impressed, not only with how great this movie is but with how well the Horror genre has been doing recently, we had a rough patch with insanely bad paranormal films but we seem to be getting back on track and this extremely original film just proves that. Not only will this movie keep you checking outside your windows but as 'Total Film said, it will haunt your waking hours. A lot of people believe this to be an overatted horror and I can see where they're coming from, it definitely has some problems and isn't the perfect movie by a long shot. But considering how awful films like this can be, I say it's done a pretty spectacular job. STORY After a date and seemingly innocent sexual encounter, 19-year-old Jay is left with an unshakeable feeling that someone, or something is following her. Jay and her friends team up to try and find ways to escape the traumatising horrors that are always right behind them. This is not a jumpscare fest, I actually don't think it made me jump once, what's so daunting about this movie is the 'stalker' itself, it just walks, never runs. The tagline to the movie is 'It doesn't think. It doesn't feel. It doesn't give up. It follows'. And I think that is the most perfect way to describe this movie, it takes form as someone they may know and just follows until it gets their hands on them, and when that happens, well watch and find out. There is something unsettling about this movie and it has no gore whatsoever, so ...

Batman: Arkham Knight (PS4) 01/07/2015

Batman Arkham Knight - Saving The Best For Last

Batman: Arkham Knight (PS4) BATMAN ARKHAM KNIGHT Here it is, the final chapter in Rocksteady's perfect Arkham trilogy. With Uncharted 4 being delayed until 2016 this was my most anticipated game of 2015, and I can tell you straight away that it doesn't disappoint whatsoever. I know it has had a lot of problems on PC and has even been taken off of Steam but on Playstation 4 I can tell you this is an incredible experience and is my personal favourite of the series. Arkham Asylum & Arkham City were both perfect games in my opinion but this just expands on what made those games so great and entertaining and gives us something we're not going to forget any time soon, and is going to be a hard contender to beat for Game of the Year. I'll be going through key elements that I love about this game and if you haven't played an Arkham game I implore you to go out and purchase Arkham Asylum and try it out for yourself. STORY Now I don't want to give away too much here but all of Gotham has been evacuated, there are just thugs, police and Batman roaming the streets now. The mastermind 'Scarecrow has developed a toxin known as 'Cloudburst' and is threatening to release it all over Gotham, leaving deadly outcomes. There is the Arkham Knight who has put together a crew of militia and tanks to take you out, maybe Batman's strongest foe yet? With these villains threatening to kill the people Batman cares about, he has one night to put a stop to this. I became so invested into this story, it took a couple of hours of ...
