Does Britain still need a monarchy? 02/01/2007

The Crown's Slipped A Bit

Does Britain still need a monarchy? I have seen little point in having a monarchy for quite some time now. I must admit, I'm far from being patriotoc and the only royal I ever had a remote amount of respect for has been dead like a decade. As far as i can see, the royals in general are not great role models, so what, so the odd one does the odd bit of charity ever now and then. Anyone can make a conscious effort to raise money for a good cause and still go out into the real world and earn a living for themselves. Why should the Queen sit at leisure and live of the taxes that UK citizens build up? When we examine the behaviour of the Royals over recent decades, we see that their past (as with many people's) is littered with scandals, often sordid in nature. When a MP has affairs outside the marriage, they are hounded and made to step down. When a normal citizen does so, they are persecuted by many of the people they know, so why then when the Royals do it, does it appear in the paper, hang on everyone's lips for a few months if that, then is swept under the carpet until such time that the question - Do We Need A Monarchy is examined in the public eye and incidents resurface. Who cares that the Queen never really liked Fergie, and wasn't happy with the time Fergie and Andrew were spending together after their divorce, who cares that Diana was planning on an Egyptian step-father for the heir to the throne, or that Princess Zara Philips is a right live wire on her binge drinking nights out. If the Queen as ...

Is capital punishment wrong? 02/01/2007

Off With Their Heads

Is capital punishment wrong? I think discussion around capital punishment have to be dealt with sensitively as it's a very controversial issue, with people taking many different stances. Personally, I have often read about crimes and events in the papers or watched reports on the news that have led me to curse under my breath that the perpertrator should be hung for their doings, however, I don't believe I can fully back this up. The problem with our legal system, is that one can be sentenced to a number of years in prison and find themselves walking around amongst the civilised world in less than half the time they were originally tod they woul;d have to serve. Thus when it comes to Capital Punishment, at least from a victim point of view, you would know that the one that caused you to become a victim through whatever means, was never going to be able to put you or anyone else in that position again. Afterall, once a date and time has been set, it's likely they'll be successfully executed and left as dead as a door stop. Whilst this may be a less costly answer to life imprisonment (think of all that tax payers money that will not have to be spent housing someone in a barred hotel with leisure facilities, free education, and paying jobs) it is something that can't be revoked once the act of capital punishment has been implemenmted. It may not happen often, but there are cases where an individual is tried and tested, imprisoned for years, only for later evidence to emerge, rendering the individual ...

VHUno 09/10/2006

Vamos Baila! (Let's go dance!)

VHUno ***Introduction*** Here I am, back again with yet another VH1 radio station review. I guess it's partially because I am spending so much time hooked up to the computer whilst in the office, and to be honest I'm practically living there at the minute. However, it is also partially due to the fact that the cold weather has come around and so I don't really want to venture out into it (if I can help it). So what's this station all about then, well read on to hear all about the station better known as VHUno. ***Where Can We Find VHUnoand what's it all about?*** VHUno is an online radio station and links to several other stations that fall under the VH1 umbrella. The station can be found by visiting www.vh1.com/radio and selecting the World Music Option from the homepage. VHUno is the last radio station on the listing. It is basically a Latin music station and has a mixture of upbeat modern pop as well as a more traditional sounding experience from some of the Latin World's Golden Oldies. ***What Other Stations Can We Find Under World Music?*** Other stations that are listed alongside VHUno include: -African Experience - This is as it suggests, a purely African flavoured station. -Big World - This station is more general and has music from all over the globe. It includes artists such as, Bebel Gilberto and Femi Kuti. -Brazilia - This is a great station celebrating Brzil's finest and includes artists such as, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso and Marisa Monte. -Jammin - ...

Karaoke Hits Radio 09/10/2006

Now We Can All Have A Bit Of X Factor!

Karaoke Hits Radio ***Introduction - Why Did I Pick This Station?*** Over the past few months I have become a very big fan of a couple of the VH1 radio stations but as they can get a bit repetitive after a while, I decided that I would do a surf of what else they have to offer and found the stations to be rather consistent. This admittedly makes reviewing each of the individual stations rather easy compared to some other products, because I know how much I like the ones I originally started tuning into. It also gives me the opportunity to sample getting my groove on to a variety of different moods. At this moment in time I don't have much pressing work on and am sitting hook up to the machine so I thought what better than to take the opportunity of an empty office and have a bit of a sing-a-long to VH1 Karaoke Hits Radio. ***Where Can We Find Karaoke Hits radio what's it all about?*** Karaoke Hits Radio is an online radio station brought to us by the infamous VH1 group. The station can be found by visiting www.vh1.com/radio and selecting the Karaoke Hits Radio option from the Themes and Moods Category on the homepage. VHUno is the first radio station on the listing. It is basically a station that has an array of karaoke favourites with a mixture of upbeat modern pop hits as well as the more renowned classics from decades before. ***What Other Stations Can We Find Under Themes & Moods?*** Other stations that are listed alongside Karaoke Hits Radio include: -Acoustic Chill- This is as ...

VH1 Rocks 02/10/2006

'Sticks and stones may not break your bones...'

VH1 Rocks 'Sticks and stones may not break your bones, but ROCKS will always hurt you' warns a female voice as the station tunes in. And what a welcome that is. It's kind of strange because the voice is so calm but somewhat raunchy which is a contrast to the music the station has to offer. I'm not the biggest of rock fans and tend to prefer the softer stuff when I do take the time out to listen and so was pleasantly surprised when I managed to sit through a whole playlist. I started off with Metallica's 'The Unforgiven II' I believe, which is alledgely from their 'Reload' album. This was then followed up by Alice in Chains's, 'What The Hell Have I' from the Movie, 'The Last Action Hero's' soundtrack, which helped to stepped up the pace of what else was to come. I was well into the swing of things by the time we were halfway through the list and listening to Incubus's, 'Talk Show on Mute' from their 'Crow Left of The Murder' album, which has been given a lot of air time lately on the usual fm stations and so I was happily singing along and shaking my head as I typed out instructions in regards to training for the 7000 odd people I work with…Hope I wasn't too distracted. Other artists included: *Smile Empty Soul - Don't know much about this group but they sound great, though somewhat commercial, *Nickelback - Oh and I do really love them and the way they have evolved over time, *Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Old timers, still going strong Temple of the Dog - Slow, soft and easy on ...

Vh1 Blast 04/09/2006

What a blast...From the recent past

Vh1 Blast Vh1 Blast is one of the various radio stations offered by the famous Vh1,more popularly known for their various TV channels. The site can be accessed by visiting www.vh1.com/radio/ and either selecting it from the 'Pop' list or from the number one spot from the 'Charts' list, found on the left hand side of the homepage approx halfway down. One of the good things about this particular station is the fact that it plays many of the hits from the Top 40 although it's not immediately current and runs at approximately 2 months behind for those of us in the UK. Most of the hits are American althoguh you do have the likes of Rhiannan and Natasha Beddingfield contributing various hits from their album to hold it up for the Brits. Other artists currently on the playlist include Omarion whose tune O is currently running, as well as: Matchbox Twenty Thalia Daddy Yankee Christina Milian Ciara Fefe Dobson Ne-yo Simple Plan Beyonce Sum41 Frankie J Teddy Geiger. The station has some useful features. One of the ones that I particularly like is the 'skip button as this allows you to jump to the next random track if you don't like the current one. You also have the option to pause, play and alter the volume from the controls on the actual radio station page, which is also a useful feature for one like me as I have noticed that the songs play at different and inconsistent volumes and so you do have to alter it quite often, especially if you are listening from work in an open ...

Everything that starts with J ... 30/08/2006

Everything that starts with J ... After reading a fellow East londoner's challenge, who's name shall not be mentioned - Dark Dave, i was inspired to complete the 40 questions myself so without prattling on for too much longer, here goes with the quick fire round... ***** 1. What time do you wake up in the morning? I usually wake up at 6.10am but that's not to say I roll out of bed at that time, and roll is what I literally do as the bed is against a radiator, to keep me warm on those cold nights, below the window for those not so hot summers and it's foot rests against a wall, with a bookcase at my head so there is only one way out and that's usually over the crap on my floor. More often than not, I tend to take upto an hour to actually figure out that the snooze on all 3 alarms will continue to alert me every 8 minutes until I finally shift my sorry butt to the bathroom to begin the daily rituals. ***** 2. If you could eat lunch with one famous person, who would it be? Hmmm, there's a lot of things I would like to do with a lot of famous people but since the topic is lunch then I think I would love to have a lunch date with the pussy cat dolls - had to think about that one, but say for example on a day like today, I could do with the girls around me, laughing, joking, having a good old gossip, loadsa booze, leering at the lads and what have you. Cocktails at High Chapparel Greenwich would be a great venue as well, all those delish tourists to spy from the window. ***** 3. Gold or ...

Ten things I hate about supermarkets 25/08/2006

Supermarket Sweep...

Ten things I hate about supermarkets I am so thankful for 24 hour supermarkets cause i now have the option of avoiding some of the things that I absolutely despise about them. I love jumpin in the car and driving 10mins to my local tesco's where I no longer have to adhere to the parking rules, can stop outside the main doors, rush in and rush out, but we won't think of those examples and instead I will join the majority and talk about my pet hates during normal hours. So let's get on with the countdown: 10) The layout: This is not appropriate for all supermarkets but is especially true of the budget places and foreign supermarkets. When I go shopping I expect everything to be in a logical order Therefore to me nappies, tissues, tampons, toilet roll and kitchen roll should be relatively close, but why do these cheap places stack these items on the highest shelves and run round the whole shop. 09) Parking: Why are the carparks organised in such a way that hardly anyone is relatively close to the door and there are so many blue badge spaces that aren't really necessary cause there only appears to be about 2 disabled spaces in use at anyone time. I'm all for the disabled access but why so much when it's not required??? 08) The frozen sections: Why can these not all be in the same place, when I go shopping you would think I was on a catwalk parade cause I go in next to nothing, but that's cause you never know who you may bump into in the aisles. Well anyway, the fact is I hate freezing down one aisle only ...

What's in my bag? 25/08/2006

Where's the kitchen sink???

What's in my bag? Here I go, embarking on yet another challenge in order to look as if I'm usy at work when really I'm just killing time. So what's in my bag??? Hmmm, let me reach across the desk and I may just be able to answer this question with ease. Although first let me detail the bag itself. My bag is a little black variety, far too small for my needs. It is a fake leather bag from New Look about 5 years ago and has the Union Jack studded on the front, which at the time I mistakenly took to be sunshine. Poked into one of the eyelets is a Union Jack and the National Greece flag which have been in place since my birthday where we started off at a Greek bar in Skopelos called Kyriatis. Ok so what is actually inside... The first thing that jumps out at me is my box of Greek 20 Silk Cut Mauve. Other than the name I can't read anything else on the box. Next is my red packaged deodrant, also bought in Greece from the island of Alonissos and is by a company called B.U. (Be You). The spray is called Sexy and smells really nice. It's quite strong and so last most of the day The third item is some V6 Greek chewing gum. It's absolutely disgusting but leaves a fresh taste eventually and so for as long as it does it's job I'll keep it and use it. Afterall they cost me 1.20 Euros. 4th up is my Algogel - sting reliever and antiseptic gel for the hundreds of mosquito bites I am now nursing. The gel is abolutely rubbish as it only provides relief for approx 5 mins but it's better than ...

10 Things That Really Annoy Me 25/08/2006

How to grate on me...

10 Things That Really Annoy Me I haven't written anything in ages so here I go with a challenge instead to give you all a little insight into what really annoys me. Please bear in mind though, that list is forever changing and so what you are actually capturing is the most 10 annoying things for me on Aug 25th 2006...A day could make all the difference. Anyways, without further ado, lets begin the countdown... 10) Repeated Programmes: I hate having nothing better to do at times than watch the box and so i find it really frustrating when I put on, say for example, Sky Movies 1 and they are repeating everything that I happen to see the last time I was in this predicament. Like why must they repeat films so often. Haven't producers given us enough variety by now??? And like what's with ITV2 forever showing Corrie. Don't get me wrong I love Corrie but must it be screened on average of 4 times a day especially when it's airs what 6 episodes a week! 09) Going back to work after a holiday: Having just got back from Greece the other day, it's absolutely mind numbingly boring being back at the office especially since noone has covered me in my 2 week absence and so i have a stack of paper work and emails to trawl through but my head is still on the other side of the continent and so the stack is still getting higher and meanwhile I can't tear myself away from venting this frustration via a Ciao challenge. 08) Men: OK again with reference to my holiday...here goes...even though my partner is fairly new ...

Coca-Cola Zero 11/07/2006

Only 0.5 Calories for Almost the Same Great Taste

Coca-Cola Zero I have been itching to get my mitts on a can of this ever since I saw the advertisment on the television the other day. Finally, the little stores close to where I work have caught on to the trend and decided to stock some supplies of Coca Cola Zero on a trial basis. Nutritionally, I was most impressed. 'There's nothing in it!' I exclaimed when i turned to the back of the can and saw a full list of zeros for things like fat and sodium. Like I'm not exagerrating everything: sodium, carbs, saturates, you name it is 0g and the calories are a minute 0.5 which translates as 0.5kj of energy. I am drinking the 'fat' version although admittedly I would normally opt for the diet. (Is there two versions...my can is mainly black unlike the picture above suggests). On opening the can I did find it to be almost on par with the normal red cola, but it wasn't as sharp on the tongue. The after-taste lingers a little more than the normal variety also but it isn't a major problem and wouldn't affect my decision to make another purchase of the drink. What I did notice however, is that after it's been open a short while it does lose that original coke taste and becomes more diet like in flavour. I think this is largely because it doesn't really hold it's fizz well, which is why I have given it a 'nice' rather than a 'delicious' rating. Value wise, I think it's pretty good, no more and no less than you'd pay for other drinks in the same format. In my case it was 50p for a 330ml ...

Jacob's Iced Gems 04/07/2006

Bitesize Gems

Jacob's Iced Gems I absolutely love Iced gems. Always have done, always will do. That's probably why I find myself sitting down to write this review when i should really be booking people in for their training appointments, but nevermind. *** So Why Did I Choose Iced Gems? *** I am really bad with the sweet snacks and biscuits and basically find that the bigger the packet, the happier I am because I am quite content to sit there and scoff the lot whilst I still have a great figure. However, the problem with the larger packets of biscuits, like Maryland for example, give outsiders the impression that they are to be shared. Therefore, this week I have opted to buy a whole load of Multipack snacks. I figured this will actually encourage me to eat less sweets for the week and I don't mind so much offering the odd small packet to the odd kid or two that happen to frequent my house, because the packaging gives the impression that there is a lot to go around anyway. *** Packaging *** The packaging really stands out and demands your attention. The multipacks, which normally consist of 6 packs are sealed within a larger pack which has a backgroud dominated by blue and white to give the impression of the Arctic and is a larger example of the smaller bags. A Snowbear is the chosen character to front the biscuits and appears on the front and reverse of the packets usually wearing a red or yellow jumper. One of the best features about the packaging is that they give you a realistic view of what to ...

If you were stranded on a desert island, what 5 items would you take? 03/07/2006

My Island Necessities

If you were stranded on a desert island, what 5 items would you take? This challenge has long since been forgotten and so I am hoping to revive it whilst at the same time giving you an insight into the wacky workings of my mind. So without further ado, I shall crack on with this list of 5 items that I would have to take with me: 5. Case of Wine - At first I was going to say that I would take a case of wine with me so that I could send multiple messages in a bottle and hope that someone eventually came to my rescue, but I had a rethink when I considered that items 3 and 4 would need to be paper and a writing instrument, leaving me a possibility of only a further two items so instead, I would need the alcohol to blot out the fact that I was actually daft enough to get stranded in the first place and also to help me pass the time in a drunken sleep whilst I was waiting to be rescued. 4. Photos of People I Have Left Behind - I want to remember why I am not in a rush to suddenly get back anytime soon. I think if I sat and looked at pics of people I work with and some of my friends that have really pi$$ed me off recently, I would be quite happy to remain on that little island, just me, myself and I. Hmm, now that doesn't sound very healthy, I think the lesson here is that I need some newer, nicer mates, but I'm not likely to find them on this secluded beach in the middle of a great ocean. 3. Suntan Lotion - Well, by the looks of it, I am planning on staying quite a while and so, this will come in handy, protect me from the incresed risks ...

When is the right time in life to have a baby? 03/07/2006

The Next Generation

When is the right time in life to have a baby? When is the right time to have a baby??? This has been a question I have started to ask myself more and more throughout the last couple of years. I am now in my mid 20s and so this is something that does invade my mind. In short, I think the right time to have a baby is when you're ready! This doesn't mean you have to wait til you reach a certain age as we all mature at different rates and develop our own views and perspectives. We also go through a combination of life experiences that can prepare us for the responsibility of parenthood far quicker than someone going through a different set of life experiences. If you have to ask yourself whetehr or not it is the right time to conceive, then the chances are you have not thought out all the complexities of this lifechanging role. At the age I am now, I am at a crossroads andf thinking that I should have either had kids earlier and then started a career or that I should have made a better go of my working life and now be in a position to at least afford the responsibility of children. This brings me to another point. I am all for the next generation and the bringing into the world of new life, but at the same time, I don't want to have to support someone elses children. Too many youngsters as well as layabouts get pregnant as an excuse to sit at home on their a***s all day and I don't think that's right. I don't see how someone who is not willing to make a proper go at life including work, education and social ...

Everything that starts with F ... 20/06/2006

My Five Countdown!

Everything that starts with F ... Oh I'm sitting here so bored at work and feel the need to let my creativity escape since I'm not likely to be rushed off my feet anytime soon so here I go with a list of my fives...I will try to keep it short but can have a tendency to rant and rave once I get going... *** 5 Things I Can Do *** 5. I can hold my head up high when I walk down the street safe in the knowledge that I can accept me for me - I used to get really vexxed at people's negative opinions of me, especially when they were based on the opinions of biased others. At times I would work myself up into such a frenzy that I couldn't go out if I didn't look absolutely perfect because at least then I would be confident that people didn't see any outward flaws, but age and wisdom has taught me that people with mouths will speak and there is always gonna be people hating on you and creating a reputation for you that DOES stick, but at the end of the day, the ones I love and love me in return know me and take me for who I am and not what I've been made to be. They see my true colours now that this rainbow has broken through the rain clouds and shone through revealing the pot of gold at the end. 4. I can be a total bitch when I need to be - I am a mug at heart if I'm totally honest. My life is full of people who need me for what I can do for them, rather than it being an equal relationship. That's not to say I don't put people in a similar position. The thing with me is that I will only let you freeload and ride ...
