Estee Lauder Pure Colour Lipstick 30/11/2017

I Love This Lipstick!

Estee Lauder Pure Colour Lipstick ***Why I Bought This...*** I bought this product because I like to experiment with make-up and I like to buy a mixture of budget brands and high end brands. Estee Lauder is a brand that I don't buy too often as their products are very expensive but I can occasionally afford to treat myself. When I saw this lipstick at my local department store I liked the shade and the design and I really wanted to try the lipstick so I made the purchase. ***Packaging*** The tube of this lipstick is very unique. I've never seen another lipstick designed like this and I love the novelty of it. The lipstick actually appears to be upside down as the lid is bigger than the base of the lipstick and the inner tube sticks out of the lid. To remove the lipstick you have to pull at the base of the inner tube. The actual design of the tube is lovely as it looks ultra chic and as though it has been designed for classy, mature women. The gold inner tube and the transparent lid go well together and I love that the Estee Lauder logo appears on both parts. It is embossed on the outside tube and etched onto the metal on the inner tube. It looks beautiful and it looks like a lipstick I've spent a lot of money purchasing! There is an information sticker on the base of the inner tube which tells me the variety of lipstick as well as the name of the shade. The label is coloured to indicate the shade too although I personally think the label is a lot lighter and less bright than the actual shade. ***About ...

Medisure Wrist Support 29/11/2017

Gives Great Support...

Medisure Wrist Support ***Why I Bought This Product*** I bought this several years ago after falling backwards on roller skates. I injured both of my wrists and I needed to support them. Even when my wrists recovered they were never quite the same and they often 'click' and feel weak so I use this Medisure wrist support when I'm doing weight bearing exercises to give an extra bit of support to the joints. ***What Is It?*** This is a cuff-like elasticated band. It has a loose tab of material on one edge which can be pulled around the wrist and fastened as loosely or as tightly as you desire. I personally like to fasten mine very tightly as I feel it offers more support like that. The band sticks down with velcro and it is very secure once it is fastened. These cuffs come in different sizes and I would recommend trying the for size before buying. My mum wanted to borrow mine after falling on stairs a few months ago but she couldn't fit my wrist support over her hand. The bands are elasticated but they are not really stretchy as the material is quite stiff. I have to push the band down over my hand and it does pull at the skin and joints as I do so. As a guide the large size is 18 to 20 centimetres and the extra large is 22 to 24 centimetres. The band does not go right along the arm and instead just sits on the joint of the wrist and slightly onto the hand. The material is actually very soft and it feels very comfortable on the skin and around the wrist. The material has a ribbed design so it ...

Kingston SD10/16GB Class 10 SDHC Secure Digital 16384 MB 29/11/2017

A Reliable Memory Card...

Kingston SD10/16GB Class 10 SDHC Secure Digital 16384 MB ***Why I Bought This Product*** When I bought a Canon DSLR camera a few years ago I had no idea what sort of memory card to use. I ended up doing a search online and I discovered that there were a range of cards that were recommended to be used with my camera. One of these was this Kingston SD10 16GB memory card. It doesn't have the biggest capacity at 16GB especially when intended to be used with a DSLR camera but it was a little cheaper to purchase than cards with greater capacity. As a photography novice I thought that this card would suffice at least until I learned more about how to best use my camera. ***The Design*** This is a memory card intended for use for cameras and camcorders. It is not a micro-card nor can it be transformed into a micro card for mobile phones although I believe you can purchase micro cards with the same specifications from this brand. The card measures 24mm X 32mm X 2.1mm with a weight of 2.5 g and it feels well crafted and durable. I prefer to remove my card from my camera to transfer images to my computers rather than to connect using a cable so I often handle the card. The material of the card feels slightly grainy so I always have a good grip between my finger tips. The specifications of the card are printed clearly on the front so I never get my cards mixed up if I have them out of different devices at the same time. The card has a easy to use 'lock' system on the side so you can protect the data on the card if you desire. This can be ...

Bristan Design Utility Lever Basin Taps 28/11/2017

Turn The Tap On!

Bristan Design Utility Lever Basin Taps ***Why I Installed These Taps*** I had my bathroom refitted recently. It was an emergency refit which I wasn't expecting but it had to be done after a workman visiting the house damaged the bath tub and the floor. I asked the bathroom fitter to choose some taps for me based on my needs. I basically wanted something easy to use and which would require little maintenance. I had previously had some taps which required tightening after every use and I was finding it difficult to turn them sometimes and I was always having to have them fixed or the washers replaced. My bathroom fitter therefore opted to get these Bristan Utility Lever Basin Taps which I've got for my shower/bath and for my basin. He said they were the best option for me. ***About The Taps*** There are a couple of versions of these kind of taps available from Bristan but they all work in the same way. Basically the taps have a lever which can be moved to the side to allow the water to flow from the tap. The lever is then moved back to the starting position to stop the water flow. There is no twisting or turning, tightening or pressing required so they are perhaps the easiest taps to use that are out there. I would certainly say that these are the best choice for any elderly customers as they require very little physical effort and you don't need much strength in your hands and fingers to be able to use the taps. The levers on my taps have a slight hook at the very end and I find that this stops my fingers from ...

Abru 12 Way Multi-Purpose Ladder 28/11/2017

Climbing Up The Ladder...

Abru 12 Way Multi-Purpose Ladder ***Why I Purchased This Product*** Over the past few years I've had three different sets of ladders but this was the last set I purchased and I believe they will last me a lifetime. The primary reason I need ladders is because I have a garden with tall trees in it. The trees include a hedge of leylandii as well as two large cherry trees. I cut these trees myself and I often do it alone so having a pair of ladders that are the right length and which are safe and sturdy is essential to me. My dad actually recommended these ladders to me although I did not think they were a good idea initially as I thought it would take a long time to open up the ladders and to get the positioning of the ladders right. However, now that I have them I realise I couldn't be without them. ***About The Ladders*** These are 12 way 'combi' ladders and they have a height of around 12 feet when fully extended. They are also able to be folded into different positions with a total of 12 different positions and a platform mode. The platform is removabe and is designed to be non-slip. The ladder folds up with a hinge system. There are three large hinges along the length of the ladder. These can be opened by pulling a large lever on the edge of the hinge. This lever pushes a lock opening and you can extend that particular segment. Each piece clicks into place but it's important you hear this click and check each hinge to ensure the part is fully extended. There is a colour coded area on the hinge which ...

LOST - season 6 (DVD) 28/11/2017

And They All Lived Happily Ever After?

LOST - season 6 (DVD) I was one of the obsessive fans of this weird drama about a group of plane crash survivors who find themselves on a strange island which aired between 2004 and 2010. I had to have this DVD as soon as it was released and I still enjoy re-watching some of the episodes from this sixth and final season despite the fact that I am also one of the fans who didn't really like the way the show ended. This 5 disc region 2 boxset is a real delight for fans of the show since it contains not only the full 17 episodes of season 6 but also an official unaired epilogue episode in addition to a ton of extras including the gag reel, deleted scenes and audio commentaries. This final season contains one of the best ever episodes of Lost, in my opinion, and what is actually my favourite episode. This is the episode called 'Ab Aeterno' and is centric to the character Richard as well as to the shadowy God-like figures of Jacob and his nemesis The Man in Black. There are some beautiful scenes in this episode and it's very well acted. The shots of the Hawaii (which doubles as the mysterious supernatural island where our main characters are stranded) beach and the mountains are a particularly stunning backdrop in this episode too. Another notable episode is 'Across The Sea' - the so-called 'episode of answers' which, for a lot of fans, doesn't really answer much at all. It's an interesting episode because the main cast are missing at this crucial final stage of the season. Titus Welliver is ...

Lost - Series 4 - Complete (Box Set) (DVD) 28/11/2017

Are We Saved? Lost - Season 4

Lost - Series 4 - Complete (Box Set) (DVD) The Emmy award winning drama series Lost remains one of my favourite ever television shows. It was totally unique, filled with bizarre mysteries and shocking storylines with a large cast of intriguing, characters played by competent, attractive actors. When fans eventually started to get itchy about the show's direction the powers that be decided to agree to an end date to the show and awarded it a six season run. This decision also resulted in the fourth and fifth seasons being slightly truncated. So this fourth season contains a shorter season of 14 episodes. Despite there being less episodes the Region 2 DVD still contains a glut of brilliant extra features and easter eggs making it a must-have box set for the dedicated fan. The Region 2 DVD contains 6 discs. Two of these are filled with nothing but extras! Season 4 of Lost took a darker, more violent turn with an emphasis on action and stunts. The season sees the arrival of a freighter ship to the mysterious desert island. The survivors of the original plane crash imagine that the ship has come to help them but all is not what it seems. There is a lot of violent encounters and deaths in this season and it has a sort of masculine Rambo vibe to it. Character development is still prevalent though and we see some of the major players ,Locke and Desmond for instance, go on some intense and beautiful spiritual journeys. Season 4 contains some great episodes but some feel a little weaker. A fan favourite, commonly referred to ...

The Tribe - Complete Series 5 (Box Set) (DVD) 28/11/2017

The Tribe - An Awesome Post-Apocalypic TV Series

The Tribe - Complete Series 5 (Box Set) (DVD) The Tribe is a television series which aired in the UK in 1999 up until it's fifth season in 2003. Based on an idea of post-apocalyptic survival the show was filmed in a scenic New Zealand landscape with a cast of children and young adults, a mix of professional and amateur actors. The premise of the show is that all adults in the world have been killed off due to a virus that can not infect children and teenagers. In this terrifying new world kids have formed gangs or 'tribes' such as The Mall Rats or The Ecos and established home territories in the city and countryside. These gangs don garish make-up and wear outlandish outfits to identify themselves from other gang communities. In this fifth season, the final season of the show, the main characters continue to adjust to big changes after a new gang, The Technos, seek to establish a world where electricity and other essential services are permanently restored. The main gang of the show, The Mall Rats, aim to locate all their missing friends who were lost when The Technos, under rogue leader Ram, kidnapped them and subjected them to forced labour. The story follows the trials of the scattered Mall Rat members as they try to find their families and loved ones and also focuses on the re-birth of disgraced Ram as he attempts to better himself. The technology favoured by new Techno leader Mega also leads to a terrifying re-birth of Season 1 antagonist Zoot, this time in virtual form. As a huge fan of this show I think this is ...

Harsh Realm - Season 1 (Box Set) (DVD) 28/11/2017

Harsh Realm - A Short Lived Sci-Fi Gem

Harsh Realm - Season 1 (Box Set) (DVD) I'm a huge sci-fi and cult television fan and will watch almost anything in the genre but I'm picky about what I classify as my favourite shows. I first heard about this show, Harsh Realm, after finding out that one of my favourite actors, Terry O'Quinn, starred in it. I'd never heard of the show before this but I watched a couple of episodes online and enjoyed it so much that I bought the box set DVD. It is now one of my favourite DVD's to watch despite the fact that the series was very short lived and only has 9 episodes. The show might not have even found a DVD release except for the fact that it was the brainchild of Chris Carter, the creator of 'The X-Files'. The show was posited as a replacement for the massive hit which Carter had enjoyed but due to a number of problems Harsh Realm was taken off air after only three episodes. Don't let that put you off though as it's not an indication of the show's high quality! Some of the problems included lack of audience due to the show being compared to 'The X-Files' whilst there were also ongoing legal battles regarding the rights of the writers and creators. There was also a big issue involving the credibility and reputation of the lead actor. Thankfully these issues didn't stop the show from making it onto a DVD box set. The premise of the show involves a soldier, Lieutenant Thomas Hobbes, who is asked to undergo an unusual secret mission. He is asked to enter a virtual reality game in order to beat another player who has ...

Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain India Intrigue 28/11/2017

Pink Pout!

Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain India Intrigue Introduction I've previously used other shades in this range of lip glosses from Revlon. I really liked my experiences with the product in the past and when I saw some of these lip glosses for sale in my local discount store I knew I had to get another one as they were so much cheaper than I'd ever seen them. There were a few different shades available but I was drawn to this particular shade called 'India Intrigue' because it was bright and bold. Packaging I like the little rectangular plastic tube that this comes in as I feel it's a rather unique design. It looks classy and chic and as though this is a gloss product that has been exclusively designed for adults. The tube looks and feels rather small but the weight is actually 0.27 fl oz or 8.0ml so the size of the tube is deceptive as I think that is about the average weight of a lip gloss. The tube is wide rather than being long and I like this as it means it is easier to conceal in a pocket or in a purse or handbag. I have pockets in my handbag that are sometimes too small for my longer tubes of lip gloss but I can fit this little tube anywhere. The tube has a black screw off top which comes off easily after twisting it a couple of times. I want to point out that my bottle had a security label right up onto the lid and when I peeled it off the sticky glue underneath remained on the lid. This is really irritating to me so I'd advise removing any labels slowly and carefully to avoid glue transfers. The sides of the ...

Bells Vapour Rub 27/11/2017

I Can Breathe Easier Now!

Bells Vapour Rub ***Why I Bought This Product*** I caught a bad cold a few weeks ago and I was finding it difficult to catch my breath and to get a decent sleep at night. In the past I had used Vicks VapoRub to help open up my airways and calm me down so I thought I'd repurchase that product. I went to the shop and picked up a little tub of what I thought was Vicks VapoRub but when I got home I realised I'd bought a different product called Bells Vapour Rub. The products look so similar it is easy to confuse them. Anyway, it didn't really matter to me as long as this product was effective. Here is my review... ***Packaging*** As I mentioned the 50g sized tub for this product looks remarkably similar to that of the Vicks branded product. The tub is blue and made out of plastic although it is quite thick, heavy and hard and I initially thought it was made out of glass. The lid is a screw off top but it is very easy to remove. It loosens up after the initial twist and only requires twisting around a few times before the lid comes off. There is a label on the tub which gives details about the product, directions for use, warnings, full ingredients, contact information for the brand and storage instructions. Overall I feel the label is printed with enough useful information and that I am not lacking any details about the product. ***About The Brand*** Bells Healthcare, also called Bells, Sons and Company (Druggists) make this product. They were established in 1847 in the UK and they produce ...

Satori In Paris - Jack Kerouac 24/11/2017

The End Of The Road For Kerouac...

Satori In Paris - Jack Kerouac ***About My Review*** I'm reviewing my copy of Jack Kerouac's 'Satori In Paris'. The novella is often published alongside another Kerouac novella called 'Pic' and I have a Grove Press publication which features both stories. I should point out that 'Satori In Paris' is listed in Ciao's 'travel book' category although this piece is most definitely more of an autobiographical account of the writer's travels rather than an actual guide which would provide any useful information. I first read this book many years ago after discovering Kerouac as a teenager. He is, without question, my favourite author although I feel like I can be objective about his work. I think 'Satori In Paris', whilst not a masterpiece of literature, is an important piece to discover if you are remotely interested in Kerouac's craft. The novella also captures a very important chapter in the author's life so it helps paint a more complete painting of the man himself. Pic, meanwhile, was Kerouac's final novel (aside from any 'lost' novels that have been published more recently) and it stands apart from the rest of his body of work due to the radical change in his writing style. They are both essential reading for any scholars of American literature. ***About The Author*** Jack Kerouac is a famed American author who was born in 1922 in a small town called Lowell near Boston, Massachusetts. As a child he became fascinated by writing and would spend hours learning his craft and creating fiction. Kerouac was ...

Raise High the Roof Beam Carpenters - J.D. Salinger 21/11/2017

A Book Of Two Halves...

Raise High the Roof Beam Carpenters - J.D. Salinger I purchased this book after first reading Salinger's 'Franny and Zooey'. That had been my first introduction to Salinger's 'Glass Family', a group of seven precocious child-actor siblings and their parents. Salinger wrote several stories about various members of the family and I was keen to read other works featuring them so I purchased this book after finding out that the two stories contained within the volume are both Glass family oriented. 'Raise High The Roof Beam Carpenters' is the first and shorter novella in the volume. Initially the title seemed rather odd to me and as I read the story I was constantly trying to find a symbolic link to explain the phrase. The explanation does come near the end of the story though and the title assumes a very poignant meaning overall. I would perhaps say that the grandiloquent phrase (conjured up by an ancient Greek poet) is indicative of the author's writing style and also of the intellect of the Glass Family. Each of the seven Glass siblings is gifted with a high intelligence but for many of them this has become a curse as they can not integrate with 'normal' society. Several of the siblings are entrenched in philosophical meanderings. They spend much of their time undergoing existential trials and aiming to find a spiritual solution to their sense of angst. 'Raise High The Roof Beam' was first written in 1955 and it is narrated by Buddy Glass as he aims to attend the wedding of his brother Seymour. The story fluctuates between ...

Clif Energy Bar 18/11/2017

The Best Energy Bar On The Market?

Clif Energy Bar ***Why I Purchased This Product*** I am a vegetarian who often tries to be vegan and I am always on the look out for new and interesting products that will suit my diet needs. One product that came to my attention recently was the Clif bar. Over many weeks I kept seeing various American celebrities endorse the product and drool about how great it tasted. I'd never heard of the product but I was intrigued so I searched online to see if the product was available in the UK. I discovered it was sold at some health food shops including bigger branches of Holland and Barratt as well as some supermarkets including Asda and Tesco. I picked up my bar from a branch of Holland and Barratt where they had a choice of three flavours available. ***What Is It?*** The 68g sized Clif bar is marketed as an "energy bar" and is intended to provide important nutrients and vitamins to an active body. I've seen online reviews of this product from people who do serious hikes and strenuous physical exercise to those who simply have a stressful lifestyle. There are eight flavours in the Clif bar range as listed on the brand's UK website. These are: Cool Mint Chocolate Chocolate Chip Coconut Chocolate Chip Crunchy Peanut Butter Oatmeal Raisin Walnut Blueberry Crisp Chocolate Almond Fudge White Chocolate Macadamia I've also seen a Chocolate Brownie variety for sale online but I am not sure if this flavour is exclusive to the US. The bars contain vitamins A, D, E, C, B6, B12 as well as niacin, ...

Bristan Design Utility Lever Bath and Shower Mixer 16/11/2017

I'm Singing In The Shower!

Bristan Design Utility Lever Bath and Shower Mixer I recently had my bathroom re-fitted after a plumbing accident destroyed my old bath suite. I decided that I'd like to move my bath and have a shower installed as I feel that showers are more economical and sometimes more convenient than a bath. In the past I have lived in properties where there were showers but I've never had one in my current property until now. I therefore didn't really know much about shower brands or what might suit my needs. I decided to let the bathroom fitter decide what to purchase based on my requests. I basically told him to get something that was very simple to use and which was not expensive. He ended up installing this Bristan shower which I've been using for several weeks now. Features My product is comprised of a shower handset which can be handheld or placed into an affixed wall cradle. The shower head is 7 centimetres in diametre. The head has a pattern of three water holes or nozzles in a straight line and they are spaced equally around the circular head. The holes from which the water emerges are raised and they feel slightly soft but they are not malleable. The material on the base of the head is designed to be easy to clean. The shower handset is smooth chrome with a join towards the bottom of the piece. It feels rather like an old fashioned phone. It tapers away towards the cord and the thinner section is easy to grip. Beneath the joint you can place the piece into the shower cradle which is affixed to my tiled wall. The unit sits ...
