Avent Sealing Discs 23/09/2012

To top it all.

Avent Sealing Discs I bought the Avent Sealing Disks because I simply thought they were a very good idea. When my son stopped needing bottles of milk throughout the day, I thought it was a great idea to convert the bottles into storage bottles so that my sons pureed food could be stored in the bottles in appropriate sized portions, which made it ideal for storing the food in the fridge or when we're out and about. I bought the Avent Sealing Disks in a package that contained six discs and this cost me £4.50 from Boots - which equated to 75p for each disc. I thought the price was fine because it allowed me to make use of the bottles which would otherwise have been thrown away. The discs themselves are rubbery discs that are white in colour and are designed to fit on top of the Avent bottles. To use them is really easy and it is simply a matter of pushing on the disc with the circular part down so that it fits into the top of the bottle and creates a seal. Because the discs don't actually screw into place, I was a little concerned that they might come off accidentally if I had a bottle in my bag, but in my experience this wasn't the case. The discs fitted securely and created a tight seal so that no contents spilled out, even when the bottle was upside down or bashed around. Removing the disc was easy too as it was just a matter of putting my nail under the edge and prising off. The Avent Sealing Disks are dishwasher proof and so they are was to just throw in the dishwasher after they have been ...

Guerlain Secret De Purete Gentle Polishing Exfoliator (Refines & Illuminates) 23/09/2012

A new skin care addition

Guerlain Secret De Purete Gentle Polishing Exfoliator (Refines & Illuminates) Guerlain Secret De Purete Gentle Polishing Exfoliator is a gentle exfoliator that is something that I've been used for the past three weeks. I have recently been having sun beds as I want to maintain the suntan I picked up over my summer holiday and I've found that my suntan from the sun bed lasts a lot longer if I have regularly exfoliated. The Guerlain Secret De Purete Gentle Polishing Exfoliator cost me £28.75 from John Lewis and this was for a 75ml bottle. Obviously this is quite a lot of money and I would not normally spend this amount on an exfoliator, but I had the option of having a trial sample of the product and I found that it worked really well and so this is the reason I was willing to spend a little more on an exfoliator. The exfoliator comes in a white plastic tube and its design is pretty uninteresting and there is nothing about it that jumps out at you. I'm pretty sure that unless I had tried the trial sample then I don't think I would have picked this up off of the shelf because it would have just blended in with all of the other exfoliators on offer. I use this exfoliator sparingly because it is so expensive, and luckily it seems that only a little amount of the product is really necessary to achieve really good results. The exfoliator works like all other exfoliators and it's simply a matter of applying a thin layer of the product to slightly damp skin and then massaging in. The exfoliator feels really gentle and I have to admit that initially I ...

Mothercare Coverall Bib 13/09/2012

Jumper bib.

Mothercare Coverall Bib I had some Mothercare Coverall Bib that I used with my son when he was younger. While at home I tended to use a plastic bib when we were at home, when we were out and about I liked to use a material bib because this folded up and was just more portable. I had a variety of material bibs and the Mothercare Coverall Bibs were something I used fairly regularly and I still feel is a really good idea. A twin pack of the bibs currently costs £5.99 from Mothercare - and so obviously this equates to £3.00 per bib. While this is more expensive than many bibs, because this bib covered the more of his clothes then I other bibs, it was something I was happy to pay. The bibs come in a variety of colours and I have two red bibs which are a nice, bright colour. The bibs are made out of cotton and polyester terry towelling, and the back of the bibs is covered in a plastic layer which further protects the clothes. Because it is made of cotton and polyester, the bib is machine washable and I always found that the bibs washed well - and I think the red colour meant that any stains were happily hidden anyway. The bibs are different in as much as they not only covered the front of my sons clothes, but they also covered his arms and protected his sleeves. It actually fits a little like a jumper, although there isn't a back to the bib and so it's really easy to put on and it just fastens at the back. Once fastened, my son wasn't able to remove it, but I was ale to remove it easily. Overall, I ...

Totes Slipper Socks 03/09/2012

Totes-ally comfortable.

Totes Slipper Socks I have a number of pairs of Totes Slipper Socks, but my most recent pair are some that I bought about three months ago. Totes Slipper Socks come in a variety of styles and shades, but most recently I bought a two pack of them which came in a package together. I bought them from The Sock Shop (www.sockshop.co.uk) and they cost me £16.00 for a twin pack - which obviously equates to £8.00 per pair. I know that this isn't the best price that Totes can be bought for, but I did like the style that were on offer and so I was happy to pay £16.00 for the two pairs. These Totes are called "Ladies Totes Natural Marl Rib & Stripe Socks Twin Pack" and they are a nice lilac colour. One of the pairs is lilac and white stripes, and the other pair is all over lilac with a ribbed pattern going lengthways down the sock. The come only in one size and as they are stretchy it is a case of one size fits all - and they certainly fit me comfortably. They are made of a very soft and fluffy material which consist of acrylic, wool, polyester and elastane - and so this means that they are stretchy but also soft and robust. On the bottom of the socks are rubbery pieces which mean that the socks double up as slippers as the rubbery parts make them non-slip but without adding any bulk. These socks do grip the floor really well and it means that I can even run around on the wooden floors at home and I won't slip. I find wearing these Totes Slipper Socks are really comfortable and it is largely what I'm ...

Tommee Tippee Roll 'n' Go Bib 02/09/2012

Laundry reducer

Tommee Tippee Roll 'n' Go Bib When my son was younger I had a variety of bibs for him to wear in order to protect his clothing and to cut down on the ridiculous amount of laundry a baby and toddler tends to generate. One of the bibs I had was the Tommie Tipppee Comfi-Neck Catch-All Bib which I bought from Amazon (www.amazon.co.uk) for just £2.95 (including post and packaging) and I thought that this was a really good price that I was happy to pay. You can get this bib from high street stores, but I found that Amazon offered the best price. The bib comes in three colours, namely pink, green and blue. I think the pink and the blue are nice shades, but the green is a kind of diarrhoea green and it's just not nice. I bought my son the blue version which is a nice light but bright blue shade. It has no decoration on it and so it's plain, other than the "Tommee Tippee" logo which is printed in white on the front of the bib. The bib is made in a traditional design which means that it sits flat against the chest and then has a catch tray at the bottom of the bib which is designed to catch any drips or small food spills that my son may have. The bib is made of plastic and while it is rigid it also has some flexibility which seems to make the bib fairly comfortable to wear. Because it is made of plastic it can be easily wiped over between uses with just soapy water and it cleans up easily. I like the fact that I don't have to put this through the washing machine and therefore it is always ready for use. However, ...

Guerlain Issima Perfect White C Soothing Brightening Mask 6 sheets 01/09/2012

I don't mind hiding behind this mask.

Guerlain Issima Perfect White C Soothing Brightening Mask 6 sheets I do have pampering days every now and again. Occasionally I will go to the spa, but now and again I will pamper myself at home and just give myself the opportunity to relax and rejuvenate. One product I used on a recent pamper session was Guerlain Issima Perfect White C Soothing Brightening Mask, which was a new product for me. The Guerlain Issima Perfect White C Soothing Brightening Mask cost me £3.99 from my local hairdressing salon which, in terms of how much I've seen them cost online, seems considerably less expensive than normal. However, I do still think that £3.99 is quite expensive, but Guerlain is obviously a top quality brand and it's not something that's being bought for everyday use. If I look online today, a pack of five currently costs around £35.00 - which obviously equates to about £7.00 per mask - and I think this is very expensive for a use once only beauty product (although cheaper than going to the spa!!). The Guerlain Issima Perfect White C Soothing Brightening Mask comes in a little blue plastic foil backed sachet which keeps it fresh until opened. It requires no preparation and so it's just a matter of opening the packet and you're ready to go. Unlike other masks I have used, this mask comes in two separate sections, one for the upper face (forehead, eyes and nose) and one for the lower face (mouth and chin). When the mask comes out of the packet it is a made of a white cloth material and is moist but not too wet to make it drippy and sloppy. Before ...

Fanny Face Towel 31/08/2012

Fanny Face

Fanny Face Towel The Fanny and Face towel was bought for me for my last birthday by a friend who saw them for sale and thought they were very funny. While they are funny, I also couldn't help but think they were also quite practical and a good idea. I don't know how much she paid for them, but I have seen them online for £14.99 from www.find-me-a-gift.co.uk - which I think is quite a high price for a novelty item, but equally I would be willing to pay that amount because of the practical element. The towel is a baby pink and white in colour. The top half of the towel is white with the word "FACE" stitched in baby pink, and the bottom of the towel is pink with the word "FANNY" stitched in white. It is a good size for a bath towel and measures 65cm x 115cm. It is certainly large enough for me to wrap around myself when I get out of the shower - and covers all of my "bits"! Although I guess the idea is to use the top half of the towel for your face and the bottom half for your nether regions, I have to say that I never use it in this way and I simply use it as an ordinary towel - but I do maintain that it is a good idea in terms of hygiene (I'm obviously not very hygienic!!). The towel is fluffy and is very nice and soft and comfortable to snuggle into. When I have "towel time" which involves laying on my bed reading a book after a bath / shower, this towel is nice to have wrapped around me. However, in terms of absorbency, it could be better. Because it is so soft it doesn't have that ...

Lush Canvas Bag 05/08/2012

A Lush bag?

Lush Canvas Bag I bought this Lush Canvas Bag about 18 months ago after I bought a whole load of products from the Lush shop and they offered me the bag at a reduced rate. At full price the bag cost £7.50 - but I only paid £3.00 for it which I thought was quite a good price because it's clearly reusable and has last me the 18 months - although it's looking a little worse for wear now! It is made of cotton weave and so it's fairly robust and can stand up to a lot of usage. The bag itself predominantly black with yellow stripes down the side - and then the Lush logo and information about Lush products printed on the bag. It has shoulder straps which are large enough to comfortably fit over my shoulder without being uncomfortable or digging in. The material is soft and is comfortable against my skin. Obviously the bag is not waterproof and so this is one aspect about the bag which could be improved. However, it does seem to be splash proof and so this offers some protection. The bag is a decent size and if I'm getting a basket full of shopping then this bag is perfectly big enough. Because it is square in design it is actually can hold more than it looks like it would hold at first glance. I've owned this bag for about 18 months and it is now starting to fray and look pretty tatty and it's getting to the point where I expect I won't be using it any more. However, the stitching is still intact and it still functions as a bag well - but it's just the look it pretty tatty now. Overall, I ...

Anna Sui Eye Color Accent 102 (Intense Teal) 03/08/2012

Teally good.

Anna Sui Eye Color Accent 102 (Intense Teal) I was asked to trial Anna Sui Eye Color and as it was a brand I had never heard of, I was keen to give it a go. Because I received my eye shadow as part of a trial I obviously didn't have to pay for it, but I have found that it can be bought for £13.50 from Strawberry Net (uk.strawberrynet.com). I think this price is pretty middle of the road for eye shadow and I certainly wouldn't gulp at spending that type of price on this product, which must mean that it's pitched about right. There are a number of shades in the Anna Sui Eye Color range, and the one that I was specifically asked to trial was Anna Sui Eye Color Accent 102. This colour was referred to as "teal" and so it was a bluey-green shade that I guess was chosen for me because I have green eyes. Looking at all of the other shades on offer there is a wide range and so I am sure that there would be something to appeal to everyone. A lot of the colours, including the teal, are quite bold and more bold than I would normally opt for in an eye shadow, but there are more muted and earthy colours as well. The Anna Sui Eye Color comes in a really nice little palate that would stand out at me if I was buying eye shadow. It is a nice little round black case that is decorated with black raised swirls. It has a window in the palate so that you can see the precise colour that you're buying, and the pressed powder itself is decorated with a cute little rose etched into the powder. In front of the eye shadow there is an ...

Clinique Super Balm Moisturizing Gloss 03/08/2012

Pouting beauty

Clinique Super Balm Moisturizing Gloss I have used Clinique Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss for a couple of years - and I have a number of different shades in my make-up bag. I am a big fan of Clinique and have a number of products from Clinque - and I also love lip gloss - and so put the two together, and Clinique Lip gloss was bound to be a goer for me. A tube of the Clinique Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss costs £14.50 from the Clinique website (www.clinique.co.uk) which is clearly more expensive than most lip glosses - but I guess this is to be expected as it is Clinque and you do end up paying for the name. I have, at times, been able to pick up this lip gloss on offer and sometimes it is possible to get it for half price. The gloss comes in a plastic tube which is transparent and just has Clinique logo'ing on the tube. It has a metal screw top which is secure and so it's safe to keep in your bag or pocket. Each tube contains 15 mls of the lip gloss which may not sound like a lot but a little actually goes a long way. The lip gloss comes out the top of the plastic tube and there is a flat plastic applicator at the top which allows the gloss to come out of the tube easily and be applied to the lips neatly. There are a number of different shades, namely rootbeer, grapefruit, apricot, mango, ginger, currant, raspberry and lilac. I have the currant and the root beer shades, which are like a pink and a nude shade. I like the fact that when the gloss goes on my lips it doesn't change the shade of my lips by very much ...

BellaPierre Cosmetics Angle Eye Shadow Brush 02/08/2012

Eye eye....what's this then.

BellaPierre Cosmetics Angle Eye Shadow Brush I received the Bella Pierre Angle Eye Shadow Brush as a complementary product when I bought a couple of Bella Pierre Angle Eye Shadows. I wasn't expecting the complementary brush - but it's always nice to receive something unexpected and free. I've had a look this morning and to buy the Bella Pierre Angle Eye Shadow Brush costs £14.99 direct from Feel Unique website (www.feelunique.com). While I would probably not be willing to buy an individual eye shadow brush for £15 unless it was something special, obviously when it was complementary it was gratefully received. Having used this brush I don't think I would be happy to may more than about half what it's being sold for, but it is a basic eye shadow brush and there is nothing actually wrong with it. Looking at the brush there really isn't anything about tit that stands out. The handle of the brush is black and wooden, and this tapers down into a metal metal part which holds the brush in place. handle is fairly thin, but it is chunky enough to be comfortable to use. The bristles of the brush are tapered and angled in such a way that suits the application of eye shadow - or indeed any make-up that is applied over a contour. The bristles are quite fine and it picks up the powder well and evenly and means that I'm not left with an uneven application over my eyelids and eyebrows. I generally find that it works best to gently shake the brush before use to remove any excess powder and this allows the neatest application. The ...

Cookworks Electric Knife 01/08/2012

Make light work

Cookworks Electric Knife The Cookworks Chrome Electric Knife is a product I have owned for about a year. I bought it after I had to replace my previous electric knife because the blade kept coming loose and obviously this isn't great from a health and safety perspective! I mostly use my electric knife to cut bread into slices and also to carve meat and I just find that using an electric knife makes both of these tasks less cumbersome and considerably quicker. The Cookworks Chrome Electric Knife cost me £14.99 from Argos (www.argos.co.uk) which I felt was an okay price and one that I was willing to pay. In terms of other knives on offer, this is one of the cheaper models but because it's not something I use every day I really didn't think it was worth investing in anything too expensive. The Cookworks Chrome Electric Knife comes in fairly standard packaging which does have instructions on how to use the knife printed on it. To be honest, I don't think you really need these instructions as it is not rocket science, but it is there if you do want to have a little read. Unilike the photo above, the main motor of my product is a jet black which looks shiny and sleek. There are two knives included in the packaging and these knives suit my needs well - and I think would suit most domestic cooking / food production needs. In order to prepare the knives for use, it is just a matter of inserting the blades into the attachment space until it clicks into place. Once in place they will not fall out unless you ...

Toms Classic Slip On Shoes 27/07/2012

My name is not Tom

Toms Classic Slip On Shoes I have one pair of Toms Classic shoes which I bought before my last holiday as I wanted something to slop around in. I was also drawn to the colours that were available as I like being able to pick something bright and fun, especially when its something that I'm planning to wear on holiday. They cost me £34.99 which is actually more than I expected to pay for them because they are, after all, just canvas shoes, but I guess you're paying for the name and the fact that people will buy them at this price - as I did! I do like the "one for one" idea though that this company set up whereby they will give one needy child a pair of shoes for every pair of shoes bought. There are literally loads of colours and patterns to choose from - too many to really go into in the scope of this review (but you can have a look at them at www.toms.com/womens). The scope of colours and designs is definitely a real draw because I'm sure that everyone would find a style that suited them. The Toms I have are just plain canvas ones and they are a lovely deep pillar box red colour. The shoes are a nice simple style, nothing flashing or unique really, but just a nice simple design. The upper part of the shoe is made from canvas, which feels durable - and indeed having worn them I can attest is durable. The sole of the show is made from a thin rubbery material which also makes the shoe durable. There is no other design on them apart from a small Toms label on the side of the shoe and on the back of ...

ThermaCare Therapeutic HeatWrap 25/07/2012

Wings on your back.

ThermaCare Therapeutic HeatWrap I have used Thermacare Heatwraps (Neck, Shoulder & Wrist) on a number of occasions because I do suffer from upper back pain and neck pain - mostly when I've been sat at the computer for most of the day. I have tried medication, such as ibuprofen, which does help, but sometimes I want something that seems to soothe and comfort the painful area - and this is where I have found Thermacare Heatwraps to be really effective. I find that they tend to be preventative of pain developing if you get it on quickly enough. The Thermacare Heatwraps come in packs of three and each pad can only be used once. A pack of three heat wraps costs £6.12 from Amazon (www.amazon.co.uk) which obviously equates to £2.04 per wrap. I think this is a decent price and, to be honest, I thought that they would cost more than this. Each wrap is individually packed and when it comes out of the packet, it is kind of shaped like angel wings and it is a good shape to be spread over the shoulder blades or around the base of the neck . They are made of a soft cotton-like material that is very slightly padded and feels really comfortable when it is against the skin. The material does not rub or itch and it feels really comforting as soon as it is laid on. The pads don't use batteries as they are made of a special material which starts to heat as soon as it is taken out of the pouch and exposed to the air. It starts to heat up quite quickly - and within about 20 minutes it is lovely and warm, but comfortably ...
