Hidden Underground Vaults Tour, Edinburgh 06/10/2005

OH MY GOD ITS BEHIND YOU

Hidden Underground Vaults Tour, Edinburgh Taking a walk into Edinburgh's dark and sometimes spooky past, was quite an experience and defiantly one not to be missed. We stayed in Edinburgh for our anniversary weekend and not being a shopaholic and more into history, I searched for something to do and found the vaults tour. We opted to go through Mercat Tours (but there are other tour companies that offer this service) they offer several walking tours of Edinburgh, both daytime and night and specialise in ghost walks. The cost of the vaults tour is £6 per person and takes approximately 1 hour and in my opinion is worth every penny. Tickets can be obtained from their shop, on line, over the phone or you can just turn up at the cross 15 minuets before the tour begins. The tour started at the mercat cross on the high street where we were meet by their guide who was a local historian (as are most of the guides for Mercat) as we had opted for the 4 o'clock tour she told us that this was not a ghost walk or a ghost tour but centred more on the history of the vaults, with just a few of the ghost tails being told. Walking down the High street towards the vaults she filled us in about Edinburgh's colourful past and how the closes and the tenements and also the vaults had come into being. Arriving at the South Bridge I was confused to say the least. For a start I could not see any bridge only shops and streets (the whole bridge has been built on and round, over the years.) Entry to the vaults is via a small door ...

Renaissance Golden View Hotel 05/10/2005

A Room with a Golden View

Renaissance Golden View Hotel The Renaissance Golden View Hotel, Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt . We stayed at this hotel for the first 2 weeks in August of 2005 our party consisted of my husband and myself and our 2 daughters aged 15 and 13. This hotel impresses from start to finish with its immaculate marble reception with comfy sofas and chairs leading to a sweeping double staircases that takes you down to the first pool area and the start of the accommodation blocks. With manicured gardens dotted all over the hotel, intermingled with streams and waterfalls which run from the back of reception to the beachfront this really is a pretty hotel. First the LOCATION: The hotel is situated about 5 miles to the west of the main resort of Namma bay and 2 to 3 miles from the old Town of Sharm El Sheikh. It sits on the end of the peninsular next to the lighthouse on Elfinhare Street. With its own private beach front this hotel is in a prime location, with the local night life of Namma Bay only a taxi ride away and costing 25 Egyptian pounds, old Sharm only costs 10 Egyptian pounds or if you feel like a walk there is a small area of shops and restaurants and a few bars just 10 minuets walk up the road opposite the Hilton. Transfer time from the airport takes about 25 to 35 minutes. THE HOTEL: The renaissance has 4 swimming pools one of which is heated in winter, they are all large and free form with one having a swim up bar towels are provided at each pool and down at the beach. The lack of depth markers and no ...

Guardalavaca (Cuba) 15/03/2005

Hotel PLaya Pesquero

Guardalavaca (Cuba) The hotel is on playa pesquero beach and it is only 17 km from guardalavaca (8 to 10 dollars for a tax or a small train comes every morning ). We stayed there with our 2 childern ages 11 and 14 and we have all said that This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at and would reccomend it to any one who is looking for a holiday in Cuba. Large and spacius it is very easy to find your own patch of heaven. The rooms are very clean and quite large with good air con units tv ,fridge, coffee makers, iron and brolly. But watch out for the baths they are very slippy even if you put the mat down that they provide you still have to be very careful. There's a vary large choice of places to eat at but do be warned if you want to go to the speciality restaurants book them as soon as you arrive because they only have limited places and they book up very fast. In our opinion the best is the Romantica, this was the first time i have had lobbster as part of an allinclusive deal with nothing extra to pay. This hotel is also a true allinclusive as you will not have to pay extra for primium brand brinks ice creams snacks and most things are available 24 7. This brings the cost of the holiday down even more as you need very little spending money. Room service is the only thing that will inccur a charge. Also phone calls home are very expensive if you use the hotel phone in your room, but you can now phone home using your mobile as long as you are not with vodaphone or any other ...
