Johnson's Holiday Skin Body Lotion 10/06/2005

OH NO! Summers coming.

Johnson's Holiday Skin Body Lotion With summer just around the corner and the thought of getting my legs out after they have been hidden away under tights or trousers all winter I thought I'd get down to Boots and check out their range of fake tans. I wanted to add just a little bit of colour to them so that the first time I wear a skirt or shorts people won't be blinded by the brightness of my milk bottle legs. My sister had told me about Johnson's body lotion which has a little bit of fake tan in it. I found the tall yellow bottle in the summer section of boots on its on special stand. The front of the bottle told me that it gives all day moisturisation and that it gradually builds a beautiful light tan and that it is made for normal to fair skin. I decided that I would try it out. It cost £4.99 for a 250ml bottle from boots, but it is probably available in cheaper chemists and supermarkets. I have used fake tans before and usually turned out a streaky orange colour, so I was hoping that this one would be different. There are no instructions on the bottle to advise you how to apply the lotion all it tells you is that for the best results apply daily and to wash your hands after use. Having used fake tans before I know that it is usually best to exfoliate your skin first. So I showered and exfoliated, then when I was completely dry I decided to apply the lotion to my legs and arms. The bottle has a lift up cap and I squeezed the bottle gently to get the lotion in the palm of my hand. I rubbed my ...

Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse - mouse 26/04/2005

My New mouse

Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse - mouse I have been quite lucky with the mouse that came supplied with my computer. I have had it nearly 4 years now and never needed to replace it. But over the last few months the ball on the bottom of the mouse has started to become quite difficult to control around the screen so I thought maybe it was time to replace it. Whilst I was in WHSmith's last week I thought I would have a quick look at the mouses (or is that mice?) that they sold. I was not actually going to buy one but when I saw this Microsoft basic optical mouse for £19.99 I thought I might as well just get it then. So I did. This mouse is compatible with Microsoft windows XP, 2000, ME, 98 and windows NT. It has no mouse ball, and wheel scrolling which is comfortable for both right or left handed users. There is an instruction manual included in the box with the new mouse. The beginning of this are the English instructions and the rest of the book is in different languages. Installing This is so easy that even I could do it. Make sure that the computer is turned off. Remove the old mouse from the back of the computer and plug this mouse in. It really is as easy as that. It can be used in a round mouse port using the adapter that is supplied with the mouse to plug it into your PS/2 port or it can be used in a USB connector. Using it The mouse is used in just the same way as you would use any other. It does feel different to my old mouse because I could feel the ball moving around on the last one but ...

Lush Absolute Delight Bath ballistic 19/09/2004

Absolutely Delightful

Lush Absolute Delight Bath ballistic I am still trying out many of the lush bath products after only discovering them at the end of last year. On browsing the Lush website I was attracted to this big pink ballistic. Called absolute delight. With a name like that it has a lot to live up to. This is one of the larger bath ballistics and is about the same size as a tennis ball. This cost £2.20. I brought this from the lush website and it comes packaged in a little clear plastic bag. There is a label on the bag which will give you a list of all the ingredients used to make up this bath ballistic. As with all the products made by Lush, only natural ingredients have been used to make up this bath ballistic. As soon as the bath bomb hits the water it starts to dissolve immediately. Clouds of pink fill the bath and the smell is very strong at this point. The ball continues to spin and fizz its way around the bath until it finally sinks to the bottom and vanishes. Once the ball has completely dissolved, which takes about five minutes the scent becomes a lot weaker and is nowhere near as strong as when it first started to dissolve. This absolute delight bath ballistic leaves the bath water lovely and pink and you could imagine yourself soaking in pink champagne, (but please don’t drink it). but the smell is very different, there is no alcohol for a start. As I lay back and soaked for a while, the scent of roses filling my nostrils as well as the bathroom and upstairs landing. It is a fresh pleasant ...

Turnaround - Westlife 21/07/2004

5 Lads, 5 Years, 5 Albums.

Turnaround - Westlife The Turnaround album is the 5th album released by Westlife in their 5 years together. It was released at the end of last year (2003). At the time of it’s release Westlife were a group of five with Shane, Nicky, Kian, Brian and Mark making up the group from Ireland. Earlier this year Brian left the group, but the others lads have carried on without him, I went to their concert at the NEC in Birmingham in May for the Turnaround tour. Brian was not missed as the others in the group have great voices too. So, let me tell you a bit about the songs on this album. The cover is very boring, just a picture of the five boys heads all lined up. 1. Mandy - This is a cover of an old Barry Manilow song which Westlife released as a single and went to number one in the charts. It is a ballad that is sung well by Shane and Mark. There is a lot of piano and symbols in this song. 6/10 2. Whatever - This is the first single that Westlife released from this album at the end of last year. This is a more up tempo song for westlife and a totally different sound to what they usually do. I love this song, it is very catchy and has a summery feels to it which you just want to sing along to. This is one of my favourites on the album. 9/10 3. Heal - Another up tempo track on the album. There are some very high notes to reach in this song and some good harmonies too. 6/10 4. Obvious - This was the latest release from this album. It is sung mainly by Shane. It is a fairly slow song ...

Bend It Like Beckham (DVD) 10/07/2004

Who Needs Beckham..

Bend It Like Beckham (DVD) I thought I would update this review of 'Bend it like Beckham' that I wrote last year. I watched this dvd again this week for the first time in ages. I first went to see this film at the cinemawhen it was first released. I enjoyed the film and decided to buy it on DVD. The story is about a young 18 year old Indian girl called Jess who loves football, she is smart and pretty and can bend a ball better than any boy she knows. David Beckham is her favourite footballer, her bedroom is covered in his posters and she wants to play football just like him, but for a ladies team, (obviously). The only problem is her parents are very strict and they want her to get married to a nice Indian boy, just like her sister, and learn how to cook. Jess and her best friend Jules want to be big stars in ladies football, and despite her parents forbidding her to go, Jess attends football training with her local ladies team Hounslow Harriers. Problems start when Jess and Jules both fall for their coach Joe. The pair fall out just when a scout from a top American team wants to come and watch them play. This could be the chance of a life time for them. The day he is due to watch them is also the day of Jess’s sisters big wedding. What will Jess do? Well you will have to watch it and find out because I don’t want to spoil it for you. Cast includes Parminder Nagra-Jess Keira Knightley-Jules Jonathan Rhys Meyers-Joe Anupam Kher-Mr. Bhamra (Jess’s dad) Shaheen Khan-Mrs. ...

Along Came Polly (DVD) 08/07/2004

Anyone For Scuba?

Along Came Polly (DVD) I am a big fan of romantic comedies and that is exactly the category that ‘Along came Polly’ comes under. I first went to see it at the cinema when it was released earlier this year and then on my recent flight to Florida it was shown as part of the in flight entertainment. Along came Polly stars Ben Stiller as Reuben Feffer and Jennifer Aniston as Polly Prince. Life couldn’t be better for Reuben, he has a good job as a risk analyst and is about to marry his fiancee Lisa. The wedding goes perfectly without a hitch and the happy couple head off on their honeymoon to St Bart’s. The honeymoon doesn’t get off to the best of starts when Reuben drops Lisa after a bug lands on him. But the honeymoon is about to get a lot worse for Reuben. They head off down to the beach, when a naked scuba diving instructor comes along asking if they want to go out on the boat with him. Reuben doesn’t want to go but encourages his wife to go along and enjoy herself. She does just that and when Reuben comes back to meet his wife he finds they have been getting on a bit too well. Lisa tell her husband she is leaving him for Claude the scuba instructor and Reuben returns home alone. He tries to get on with his life and forget what has happened but everyone seems to know his business. He attends a party with his best friend Sandy Lyle who was also the best man at his wedding. Here he meets up with Polly Prince, a waitress who he used to go to school with. ...

The Lovely Bones - Alice Sebold 07/07/2004

View from heaven

The Lovely Bones - Alice Sebold I was looking for a good book to take on my recent holiday. With a long 8 hour flight and plenty of sun bathing by the pool I needed a book that I could get fully absorbed in. I had read many good reviews about ‘Lovely Bones’ by Alice Sebold and my sister had also read the book and told me how good it was. So for my holiday I borrowed the book from my sister. The cover of the book is mainly light blue and green with the title ‘Lovely Bones’ and the name of the author printed in large letters on the front. The book starts with a murder. December 6, 1973. The victim is a fourteen year girl called Susie Salmon (as in the fish) She is raped and then murdered in a field close to her house. The book is written so that Susie narrates through the book. She tells us about her family, she lives at home with her mother and father, her sister Lindsey who is a year younger than her and 5 year old brother Buckley. They also have a dog called Holiday. Susie describes in detail the day of her death. How she ended up being in the field and talking to her murderer. After her death Susie describes what heaven is like. She tells us that everyone's heaven is different. She looks down from heaven to watch her family. She watches them when detective Len Fennerman arrives at her parents home to tell them that a body part has been found. She watches how they cope with her loss, carrying on with their lives without her. Her father believes he knows who the ...

The Day After Tomorrow (DVD) 02/06/2004

What's The Weather Like Today??

The Day After Tomorrow (DVD) The Day After Tomorrow has been billed as one of the best so far this year. Millions of dollars have been spent on it and everyone is talking about it. I find that films that have been hyped up in this way hardly ever live up to expectation, but from seeing the trailer I thought this one looked a bit different, so I went to the cinema to see it on the first night of it’s release. The Day After Tomorrow is directed by Roland Emmerich, he also directed Independence day. The film stars Dennis Quaid as Jack Hall Jake Gyllenhaal as Sam Emmy Rossum as Laura Dennis Quaid plays a Palaeoclimatologist Jack Hall (I looked up the spelling)this is a scientist who studies how weather patterns have changed in the past. He gives lectures on how he feels that global warming will cause another ice age. Jack predicts that this will not happen in our lifetime but it is a worry that will affect our children and grandchildren. The US government won’t listen to his concerns. Nobody expects this to happen so quickly. Jack is kept up to date with the weather around the world. There are people in space watching the cloud patterns over the northern hemisphere and regular updates from England. Jack’s son Sam (Jake Gyllenhaal) is going to New York to take part in a school competition. He and two friends are on a plane that is going through very bad turbulence. Could this be the start of the effects of global warming? As well as the strange weather they are ...

Amusement for the bank holiday

Everything that starts with A ... Well, it's the bank holiday and as usual the weather is not great. Most of us have an extra day off from work, so I thought I would post this joke which I had sent to my email. I hope you like it and I am sorry if you have heard it before. I found it amusing. Once there lived a man who had a passion for baked beans. He loved them, but they had a lively reaction on him. Then one day he met a girl and fell in love. When it became apparent that they would marry, he thought to himself, "she is such a sweet and gentle girl, she will never go for this kind of carrying on." So making the supreme sacrifice, he gave up baked beans. They were married shortly thereafter. Months later, his car broke down on the way home from work, and he had to walk home. On the way home, he went into a small cafe and called his wife and told her that he would be late because he had to walk home. After making the call, he smelled baked beans in the cafe. They were the best beans he had ever smelled! He could not resist and had three large orders of baked beans. All the way home he had gas. His wife seemed excited and somewhat agitated to see him, exclaiming,"darling, I have the most wonderful surprise for dinner tonight!" She blindfolded him and led him to his chair at the dining room table. He seated himself. Just as she was about to remove the blindfold, the telephone rang. She made him vow not to touch the blindfold until she returned. Seizing the opportunity of her absence, he ...

Hope Springs (DVD) 28/05/2004

Living In Hope

Hope Springs (DVD) Looking through my sisters extensive DVD collection on a Sunday afternoon I came across ‘Hope Springs’. I had never seen this film before but just from looking at the DVD cover it immediately appealed to me. Why? Because it has a picture of Colin Firth on the front. Ever since Bridget Jones he has become one of my favourite actors. Hope springs was released in 2003 and the Dvd came out earlier this year. It is rated 12 and it does contain some mild bad language. It runs for approximately 88 minutes. The film Hope Springs is based on a book called ‘ New Cardiff’ written by Charles Webb. I had never heard of the book before. The film stars -Colin Firth as Colin Ware -Minnie Driver as Vera -Heather Graham as Mandy Colin Firth plays the part of an English artist called Colin Ware. Colin has just found out that his fiancee is going to marry another man, he is heart broken and leaves England to start a new life in America. He moves to a small town called ‘Hope’. When he gets there he is constantly thinking about the love of his life Vera. He checks into a hotel where the receptionist introduces him to a friend of hers, a young nurse called Mandy (Heather Graham). It is not long before she is starting to heal his broken heart. They fall in love and things seem to be going really well, but then Colin gets the surprise of his life when Vera turns up telling him that it was all a big joke and that she is not marrying anyone else. ...

Tesco Concentrated Conditioner/Outdoor Fresh 24/05/2004

Soft and Fresh

Tesco Concentrated Conditioner/Outdoor Fresh It’s always nice when you put on your clothes to feel them softly resting against your skin. For them to do this you will usually need to add a fabric softener to your wash. I have been using tesco own brand concentrated softener for a while now and I think it works really well. This softener is available in various fragrances, but the one that I favour is the outdoor fresh one. I wouldn’t say that this actually smells like the outdoors but it does have a lovely fresh smell to it. It is not overpowering but you can smell it on your clothes. Because this is concentrated you only need to use a small amount in your wash. Tesco also make their softeners in a unconcentrated version too, meaning the bottle is bigger and you have to use more to get the same results, so I prefer the concentrated one. It only costs 84pence for a bottle which at the moment has 33% extra for free. The bottle I have contains 750ml of softener. The packaging is quite pleasant to look at. It comes in a light green plastic bottle which has squared corners. The clear plastic screw cap is also used for measuring the correct amount of softener needed in your wash. The liquid runs easily out of the bottle when poured. It is a smooth looking light green coloured liquid. Using this softener left all my clothes feeling very soft and also makes them easier to iron because the material is softer. Many t-shirts I found don’t really need to be ironed after using this softener if ...

Milky Bar Buttons 10/05/2004

A Kids Favourite.

Milky Bar Buttons Passing the chocolate counter in tesco without putting any of the gorgeous looking products in my basket is always a big challenge for me. This morning in Tesco I couldn’t resist. I haven’t had a packet of milky bar buttons for ages and the packet looked so appealing. For 34p I thought ‘yes, I’ll have some of those’. So I did. These chocolates are definitely aimed at young children, With the mainly white and red stay fresh packaging featuring a picture of a cartoon character on the front. But I’m just a big kid anyway, so it didn’t put me off. Milky bar buttons are made by nestle. The packet is easily opened by pulling apart at the top, although with these being aimed at children they might need a little bit of help to get into them. On opening the packet your nostrils with immediately be filled with the lovely creamy smell of these buttons. Each one is a lovely off white colour about the size of a 20pence piece. Most of them are perfectly round, but there are the odd few that are not. Placing one of these in your mouth and allowing it to slowly dissolve is lovely. They taste very creamy and also sweet. I find white chocolate is always much sweeter and creamier than milk chocolate. It is easy to see why these are so popular with younger children because of the sweetness. You don't really get many buttons in a bag, but the amount you do get is sufficient enough because too many of these all at once would make you feel quite ...

Nokia 3100 09/05/2004

Nokia 3100 I have had my Nokia 3100 for a few months now and am starting to get along nicely with it. I found it difficult at the beginning because I had upgraded to this phone from a nokia 3310, this phone I had had for about two years and I could work it quickly and easily. The reason that I wanted to upgrade my phone was because the 3310 is a bit dated now and newer phones have more functions to them. I was not really interested in getting a photo phone and looking at the other mobiles that are available at the moment and this 3100 looked good and had plenty of extras on it. I got a special offer of 10% off the original price which is £129.99 so I managed to get it for a bit of a bargain to which is always good. I am on pay as you go on the O2 network. WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? This phone is very small compared to my old one and I was a bit worried about losing it. It is small enough to fit easily into a pocket and hardly be noticed. It has a full colour screen and the buttons are very small. I don’t have particularly big fingers but I still find that I am pressing the other keys when I am putting in a number or trying to send a text. The casing that comes with this phone is mainly cream and blue but there are other fascias that can be brought and put on. WAP This phone has WAP internet access. This is the first mobile I have had with this function and to start off with it was a novelty which I quickly worked out was going to cost me a lot of money. Connecting is very ...

Boots Tan Towels 08/05/2004

I want a golden tan

Boots Tan Towels The British weather can never be relied upon to give you a golden suntan and sitting out in the sun for long periods is bad for your skin anyway. So last year I purchased a tantowel. They come in small silver sachets with tantowel written on the front. You can buy them individually or in boxes of ten. I didn’t know if these were any good so I brought one sachet which was on special offer in boots for just 99p. Each sachet contains one tantowel which is a towelette concentrated with self tan, the packet describes it as ‘formulated to give you a quick and even application with no streaking odour, or discolouration.’ It can be applied to the face or body and should give you a natural looking glow within 3 hours. It has been developed for both men and women of all skin-types after Australian born Lori Braun's, dream to create the ultimate self-tanning product. As this was the first time that I have used one of these I didn’t want to apply it to my face in case I ended up looking like the tango man, so I was just going to use it on my legs to start with, That way if anything goes wrong I could easily cover it up with tights or a pair of trousers. I undid the sachet at the top and pulled out my folded tan towel. When unfolded it was about the size of an average face flannel. It felt very moist. I began wiping the towel all over my legs and feet. It didn’t wet my legs at all and I couldn’t tell if I had missed anywhere because it is ...
