Olay Daily Facials Clarify Renewing Scrub 17/11/2008

Am i now a renewed scrubber!!!

Olay Daily Facials Clarify Renewing Scrub I do like a good face scrub I find that normal soap dries my skin out a lot but facial scrubs normally leave my skin feeling squeaky-clean and my pores clear, they also help me to manage keeping the dreaded blackheads at bay. I have used clean and clear morning burst face wash for quite a while and it really does do a good job but a month ago horror of horrors I ran out! On my way to work I ran into Boot's to grab a bottle of my favourite but I was in a hurry and couldn't find it, I did however come across this one and as I normally love Olay products and it was on special offer I thought I would give it a go. So did it replace my favourite? COMPANY HISTORY Olay was started in South Africa in 1949 by a man called Graham Wulff, he was an ex Unilever chemist. The product was originally called Oil of Olay (I remember my mum using this!) He chose this name as a spin on the word Lanolin. The fluid was certainly unique and came in a glass bottle and Wulff and his marketing partner Jack Lowe marketed it in a very clever way, you see not once did they mention it was a moisturiser or beauty fluid, they just used clever advertising to draw the women in. You also couldn't just walk in a chemist and buy it, the pharmacists had to order it on demand. The beauty fluid name wasn't added until 1970, Proctor and Gamble acquired the company in 1985 and also started to extend the range to include body washes, cleansers and creams. In 1999 the famous name was changed to just "Olay" across ...

L'oreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara 11/11/2008

Has this got the wow factor?

L'oreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara I have avoided having to wear makeup every day ever since I had my second drain on my recourses (my youngest!). Before I had my boys I worked in Boot's the chemist (many moons ago!) I had to wear makeup every day and as I worked in London my skin really didn't approve. After leaving and doing jobs for the last 10 years that really didn't require makeup I only wore it when I was going out. But now I have taken on a bigger challenge and am currently in training for a new career and again find myself working in London. So I find myself back to having to wear makeup again, the one thing I do like is a good mascara but not one that leaves me with panda eyes. I have been using a Maybeline one but it has now finished and I decided to treat myself to a nice new one. I have always liked L'Oreal products and this mascara was on special offer so I decided to give it a go! PRODUCT STATEMENT This mascara has new technology with its formula enriched with hydra-collagen known for its volumising properties. Lashes are instantly plumped up and full of body. It also gives instant impact to your lashes with its expert combination of structuring and smoothing waxes this allows a smooth and even application on each and every lash with virtually no clumps. It also has a brush that is 2x bigger than a classic mascara brush; this new instant impact brush deposits just the right amount of formula on each and every lash instantly. So there you go we now have mascara with technology! Where ...

Beautifully Delicious Honey & Almond Shower Gel 21/10/2008

Honey how delicious am i?

Beautifully Delicious Honey & Almond Shower Gel So another review in my quest to find the best body wash as you can see from the amount of reviews I have written I haven't actually found the best one but I have found a few that has come close. I have decided to try brands that I have never tried before instead of the usual Dove or Radox to give me a bit of variety (I really need to get a life!). I had never heard of this brand before and it looked like one that I would like, so has it put a stop to my quest? PRODUCT STATEMENT Moisture-licious shower gels are full to the brim with sumptuous ingredients that are almost good enough to eat! For a delectable shower experience, indulge your sweet tooth whilst you lather with the irresistible scents of honey and sweet almond, what a delight! PACKGING This comes in a 250ml plastic bottle, the actual labelling looks very stylish and a bit upmarket. The bottle itself is clear and you can see the colour of the shower gel in the bottle. The label is honey coloured and looks like someone has taken a bite out of the top of the label! There is also one of those wooden honey sticks on it dripping with honey just in case you forgot that this shower gel has honey in it! The lid is black with a flip top there is no hanging thing on the bottle so it is just a normal sort of bottle. USING On the label there is instructions on how to enjoy this shower gel and they are: 1. Close the bathroom door 2. Drench your skin in warm water 3. Lather your skin in the honey ...

Nivea Visage Rich Moisturising Day Cream SPF15 13/10/2008

The only rich thing in my life!

Nivea Visage Rich Moisturising Day Cream SPF15 I am always on the look out for a good face moisturising cream, I absolutely loved Difinity by Olay but really can't justify spending that much on a face cream especially in these credit crunch days! I have tried a few others and have always gone for ones that are supposed to be good for stopping the signs of aging. I have now decided that actually I am not going to worry about my laughter lines or crows feet I am just going to use a moisturiser that feels good and most importantly is cheap! I found this one in good old Wilkinson's and decided to give it a go, so did it come up to scratch or did it send me running back to part with more money for a more expensive one? HISTORY Nivea was born in 1911and combined the works of 3 German men, Oskar Troplowitz, Isaac Lifschutz and Paul Unna. They invented the first long lasting skin cream and named it "Nivea" which in latin is "Nivus" meaning snow white. In the 1930's the brand was given a facelift and they also came out with their first suncream along with a 2 weekly weather calendar! More products also came out in this era including shaving cream & shampoo. The war years were very bad for the nivea brand even though they tried to distance themselves from the Nazi image of Germany at the time the brand was snubbed by most countries that were fighting Germany at the time. By the 1950's the nivea brand was back on the up and enjoying the new interest in women's fashion. The 60's saw a revolution in skincare and a tan was ...

Rummikub 26/09/2008

I now love tiling!

Rummikub I love playing board games with my children, in this electronic age with their computers and games consoles I try to make sure we try and have some family time and play a good board game together. We have all the usual suspects including Monopoly (god knows how many versions!), Cludo, Payday and a range of others. My mum actually introduced us to this game she brought it with her when we were all on holiday to play in case it rained, luckily it didn't rain but we became hooked on the game and ended up sitting up very late arguing and sulking with each other! You see this game can cause normal rational (not that there are many of those in my family!) people to get a bit hot under the collar! So why would I recommend a game that causes us all to argue? Well because to be honest it is addictive and my family could argue over a game of noughts and crosses! So what is this game all about? HISTORY Rummikub pronounced Rummy-cube was invented in the 1940's by a Romanian inventor called Ephraim Hertzano. He wanted a game that he could play with all his family, as cards were not allowed in Romania at that time, so Ephraim dreamed up this addictive game trying to keep it as close to a card game as possible. He made the tiles out of recycled Perspex airplane cockpit canopies, as this was cheaper than plastic. He then introduced it to all his family and friends, he made the sets himself out of his small workshop and then after quite a few years of doing this he had managed to ...

Listerine Total Care 18/09/2008

Put this one on your list!

Listerine Total Care I have always tried to look after my teeth and will do anything to avoid the dentist! I have a dodgy wisdom tooth, which hasn't quite come, through my gum and every now and then it gives me pain. So I try to keep the area clean so I don't get any infections, I have tried various mouthwashes over the years but never really felt they were living up to their claims I even used that one (can't remember the brand!) that shows you the plaque in a different colour when you spit out! A friend of mine recommended this one and said it was the best she had ever used, I decided to give it ago just to prove her wrong! COMPANY HISTORY Listerine was first formulated in1879 by Dr Joseph Lawrence and Jordon Wheat Lambert and believe it or not was originally formulated as a surgical antiseptic! It has also been used for quite a few other things before it became the mouthwash we know today, the best being a floor cleaner and a cure for gonorrhea! It wasn't until the 1920's that it became a success as a mouthwash, the Listerine Company basically created the term halitosis and informed every one that this mouthwash was the cure and of course everyone decided they had this new terrible condition and rushed out to buy a bottle of Listerine, clever when you think about it! They did get in trouble in 1976 as the Listerine people claimed that the mouthwash could help ease sore throats and as a remedy for colds but there was no proof of this and they were forced to drop this and to tell ...

Anatomicals Another Bloody Shower Gel 08/09/2008

Not another bloody shower gel review!

Anatomicals Another Bloody Shower Gel Ok it's back to my usual and comforting body wash reviews! Seeing I have been away for 2 weeks it gave me an excuse to go mad and buy lots of new toiletries! (Well if you had been stuck on an island with my other half and our 2 boys you would find toiletries exciting as well!). Since doing these reviews I have some very good and also some very bad body washes but I wanted to try something completely different, I have never tried this range before but decided to give it a go as it seemed to have a bit of a sense of humour. So did it tickle my fancy? A BIT ABOUT THE COMPANY This is taken from the website: We don't give a jot if your I.Q is 15 or 150, because we only want you for your body. At Anatomicals we manufacture the planets funkiest toiletries and so far people seem to like them. Exactly like oxygen, water, gravity and chocolate fudge cake, you'll soon wonder how you managed to survive without us! PRODUCT STATEMENT Before another bloody boring day at work or another pricey night out on the town, use this refreshing gel. Lather up and notice your belly button is a bloody odd shape and that your gym sessions should be yielding better bloody results. Finally see the time and think you better bloody get moving! Found in homes, hotels, and eerily deserted motels (Mr Bates we noticed you haven't re-ordered for a while!) this gel will have you screaming for a shower. Wash your torso, legs, arms, neck, buttocks …, but whatever sex you are never forget your ...

Dove Rich Moisturising Creme 25/08/2008

Wish i was as rich as this cream!

Dove Rich Moisturising Creme I have a bit of a confession to make; I very rarely use body moisturisers! I know that proberly makes me a bit abnormal in this skin conscious age but I have received so many gift sets with body moisturisers that I decided that it was time to use them up and to be honest my skin has started to get a bit dry. The first cream that I decided to try was this one mainly because I love Dove products and the majority of the range that I have tried has always been good quality. So did this one live up to the same standards? COMPANY HISTORY Dove is a Unilever product and was first launched in America in the 1950's it started with the cleansing bar that was actually developed to treat burn victims during the war. It wasn't released as a beauty bar until 1957 when it was reformulated and renamed the "Original Dove Beauty bar". This soap was aimed at people for dry and sensitive skin, and in 1970 was tested by dermatologists which proved it was milder than 17 of the leading soaps at the time. Dove came to the UK 12 years ago and became famous for its bath time products and body washes. In 2000 dove started branching out into to deodorants, hair care and body moisturisers, in 2004 came the firming range (and not a moment to soon for me anyway!) Dove is now running the campaign for real beauty, let's be honest you must have been living on the moon if you haven't seen the adverts basically they are using real women of all shapes and sizes for their advertising instead of stick ...

Nokia 6500 Slide 15/07/2008

Slide over here and talk to me!

Nokia 6500 Slide I have finally got a new phone! I know you are thinking "So what! That's not very exciting!" Well actually for me it's a big event. You see I have had the same mobile phone for about 4 years and I loved it, it was so easy to use and familiar and even though the camera was rubbish and it looked out of date and my friends thought it was like something from the Stone Age I refused to give it up. Then it started to play up and kept turning itself off and the battery life got shorter and shorter and it was then I knew that my little reliable friend had to go! We are with Orange and the other half took me to the Orange shop to pick a upgrade as apparently we were due one, I did try to do this on line but got confused with the phones and wanted to see them before committing to my next little friend! The nice lady who I have to say was very helpful took me through the ones I could have and I spotted this one. The other half was like a kid in a candy store and started picking all these different phones that looked like they could control a small space station! But I stuck to my guns and decided that this one looked the easiest to use, so did this phone become my friend or enemy! COMPANY HISTORY Nokia is a well-known famous mobile phone brand and in this mobile age most people will have owned a Nokia phone at one time or other. The company was actually first started in Finland and dates back to 1865, believe it or not the company started as a paper mill! The paper mill merged ...

Olay Body Wash Plus Lotion Ribbons with Aloe Extract 26/06/2008

Washing with ribbons, whatever next?!!!!

Olay Body Wash Plus Lotion Ribbons with Aloe Extract Back to my usual reviews body washes!!! To be honest I have tried a few since my last review on this subject but I really haven't found one to write about. Most of them have just turned out to be bland and not really worth mentioning and I have tried so many over the years that I am running out of new ones! But then I found this one while wandering around Wilkinson's and decided it looked interesting and I love Olay products anyway. So did it purk up my interest? COMPANY HISTORY Olay was started in South Africa in 1949 by a man called Graham Wulff, he was an ex Unilever chemist. The product was originally called Oil of Olay (I remember my mum using this!) In 1999 the famous name was changed to just "Olay" across the world and also in 1999 the anti aging range "Total Effects" was launched and the rest as they say is history! PRODUCT STATEMENT If you like the feel of a light lotion, ...

Dove Cream and Oil Bath 08/06/2008

Oil me up baby!

Dove Cream and Oil Bath There is nothing I love more than a nice hot bath with loads of lovely smelling bubbles! I love trying all different bubble baths and even when I find one I like I never stick to it but go straight on to the next new one. I really do love the Dove brand and have tried most of the body washes and bath creams but had never tried this one, so did this one make me change my habit and actually stick with it? COMPANY HISTORY Dove is a Unilever product and was first launched in America in the 1950's it started with the cleansing bar that was actually developed to treat burn victims during the war. It wasn't released as a beauty bar until 1957 when it was reformulated and renamed the "Original Dove Beauty bar". Montagne Jeunesse Dead Sea Anti-Stress Mud Pac 01/06/2008

Mud, mud glorious mud!

Montagne Jeunesse Dead Sea Anti-Stress Mud Pac I used to really love these sachets of face masks but due to using one about 6 months ago that I reacted to and looked worse when I took it off I have shied away from using them. I have started using ones from Lush but had run out so I decided to try this one that I had found lurking in the back of my draw (along with some other things that I can't identify!) Picking my moment for a nice relax in the tub and using a face mask is also a problem in my house as my 2 boys could be little angels before I get into the bath but I guarantee that world war 3 will kick off as soon as I get into the tub! So I picked the day when they were staying with my sister and got ready for my long soak and pamper. PACKAGING This is the other thing that puts me off these, I am not thick or anything but I always seem to get in a right mess with this packaging, for those of you who have never seen these it is basically a 20ml plastic sachet that has a tear strip on the side of the top. I manage the tear strip but then trying to get it all out is a nightmare! Once you start squeezing it out your hands get slippery and then I end up in a right mess but that could just be me! All these sachets come in different colours for different ones in the range; this one is mainly pink with blue outlines. They all also have a picture of a poor women with leaves covering her eyes and some flowers, the instructions and directions are in 2 languages English and I think French (sorry have forgotten all my ...

Cherub The Recruit - Robert Muchamore 19/05/2008

Please can i join?!!!!

Cherub The Recruit - Robert Muchamore I love reading and have tried to pass this love onto my boys, when I was younger computer games had just really started but it was books that caught my imagination. These days there is so much for kids that reading seems to have taken a back seat, my boys have to read every day for their homework and in the past I have found this a bit of a battle as they were given books from school that just didn't interest them. So they are now allowed to chose their own books and this has made a huge difference, they are choosing books that interest them and the battle has got less. We have been through all the Harry Potter books, Lemeny Snickets, Andy Mcnab, Alex Rider and a few Terry Pratchet. Then my eldest asked for this series, apparently his friends had started reading them and recommended them to him, so I managed to get him the first 3 books on a 3 for 2 offer. When I read the cover of the first book It states on the front that this book is not for younger readers so I thought I had better read the book to ensure it is suitable for my eldest who is 11. Now believe it or not I have read a few of their books normally my eldest will tell me that I have to read a certain book because it is so good and being the duitiful mum I obey! So did I enjoy this one? THE AUTHOR Robert Muchamore is 35 years old; he worked as a private investigator for 13 years before becoming a writer full time. Well actually he states on his website that he was actually fired for throwing a packet of ...

Vanish High Traffic Area Powerfoam 27/04/2008

Great for stains but doesn't Vanish monsters!

Vanish High Traffic Area Powerfoam I like most people am always on the look out for the next miracle cleaner, I have cupboards full of them all promising me that they will clean up my monsters mess! My main area that drives me mad in my living room carpet, when we moved into our house we had to take up all the carpets in the house because the previous owner had cats and I am allergic to them. I spent the first couple of days in my new home with eyes as red as Rudolph's nose and sneezing ever second! So due to lack of funds I just bought a cheap carpet for the living room with a view to replacing it later when we could afford it. Suffice to say 3 years later we still have the same cheap carpet! The problem is 3 years later my boys haven't seemed to get any tidier or cleaner and we have also acquired a lovely little rescue dog that hasn't yet learnt to wipe her feet! So I am constantly trying to clean the carpet that I want to get rid of! I do have a vax but it is to big to get out every day and if the truth be known I kind of broke it the last time I used it and haven't got around to telling the other half! I saw this product advertised and decided that it will be the answer to my prayers or my carpets anyway! So did it work? PRODUCT STATEMENT Are you frustrated by a busy family making your carpets look tired and worn? New Vanish high traffic area power foam is perfect to ensure that the high traffic areas of your carpets such as hallways, staircases and doorways- where your family come and go are ...

Lenor Infusions Ruby Jasmine 21/04/2008

Will this infuse my monsters?

Lenor Infusions Ruby Jasmine I was asked a while ago to test a new product from Lenor, it was a new range of fabric softeners. I didn't get this one to trial but really loved the one I received also with the product I got some money off vouchers so I decided to use them and try one of the others in the new range. I must explain about me and fabric softeners I really like ones that linger on the clothes after they are dried and ironed you see I have 2 boys and an other half and being the only girl in the house I like to sneak some nice smells into the house where I can! So did this one come up to scratch? WHAT IS LENOR INFUSIONS? The Lenor infusions range has been developed by a leading perfume house against existing fine fragrances, whilst maintaining the sumptuous softness of Lenor. The infusions range comes in four seductive fragrances: Black diamond and lotus flower … always elegant and sophisticated Ruby Jasmine … a little daring, lush and exotic Sapphire Violet … truly vibrant and exhilarating Amethyst Rose … a touch of mystery and excitement Each one of the range is individual and unique, and should get into the fibres of the washing to stay keeping the washing smelling lovely and keeping it soft even in hard water areas. It seems that Lenor have gone all out to create this product, their website has loads of information on the research behind the thinking for the range. Including the results of smell tests and how stimulating the brain becomes when having a sniff of each of ...
