Kobe is right on the edge of the Eurasian plate which clashes with the Philippine plate and the Pacific Plate which makes it in the danger zone. The focus of the earthquake was less than 20 km below Awaji-shima, an island in the Japan Inland Sea. The earthquake was particularly devastating ...

Macbeth (DVD) 14/03/2009

Characters of MacBeth

Macbeth (DVD) ** Macbeth ** MacBeth is a brave strong warrior, also a highly respected lord and defends his king from anything. However he does have one weakness, ambition. He allows first the witches prophecy and then and then his wife ambition for him. It is very clear that in the play he is not easily won over to evil – his conscience is strong, and throws up many objections to him doing the deed. However, he is also too easily influenced in the direction that he secretly desires to go. Once he has decided, he does not deviate, and each step subsequently reaffirms his initial choice. ** Lady MacBeth ** After her husband, Macbeth of Scotland, informs her in a letter about his opportunity to become king, she tells herself that his temperament is "too full o' the milk of human kindness" (Act 1, Scene 5) for the necessary evil to kill the existing monarch, King Duncan, and so make this possible. In her eagerness, she calls for dark forces to "unsex" her and fill her with "direst cruelty". On his return, Macbeth defers deciding on the matter, but when the king has arrived, she ends his moral dilemma by manipulating him with clever arguments into committing the assassination. While Macbeth initially balks at the bloody tasks she insists that they are necessary to seize the throne; she wants him to leave everything to her and pull himself together, shocks him and questions his masculinity. ** Duncan ** Duncan became King of Scotland upon the death of Malcolm in 1034. He was a much ...

Luke is recognisable shown as the hero when he destroys the death star in A New Hope. Earlier on in the film he is given a blue lightsaber, it is blue which means he is on the light side which is the good side. You first see Luke Skywalker coming out of his house Tatooine with his theme song playing. Luke Skywalker's costume is mainly all white, I ...

The Fall Of The Roman Empire (DVD) 02/07/2008

5 main reasons for the fall of the roman empire

The Fall Of The Roman Empire (DVD) Public Health There were many public health and environmental problems. Many of the wealthy had water brought to their homes through lead pipes. Previously the aqueducts had even purified the water but at the end lead pipes were thought to be preferable. The wealthy death rate was very high. The continuous interaction of people at the Colosseum, the blood and death probable spread disease. Those who lived on the streets in continuous contact allowed for an uninterrupted strain of disease much like the homeless in the poorer run shelters of today. Alcohol use increased as well adding to the incompetency of the general public. Political Corruption One of the most difficult problems was choosing a new emperor. Unlike Greece where transition may not have been smooth but was at least consistent, the Romans never created an effective system to determine how new emperors would be selected. The choice was always open to debate between the old emperor, the Senate, the Praetorian Guard (the emperor's private army), and the army. Gradually, the Praetorian Guard gained complete authority to choose the new emperor, who rewarded the guard who then became more influential, perpetuating the cycle. Then in 186 A. D. the army strangled the new emperor, the practice began of selling the throne to the highest bidder. During the next 100 years, Rome had 37 different emperors - 25 of whom were removed from office by assassination. This contributed to the overall weaknesses of the empire. ...

I Have Never Forgotten You (The Life And Legacy Of Simon Wiesenthal) (DVD) 02/07/2008

Summary Of Simon Wiesenthal's Life

I Have Never Forgotten You (The Life And Legacy Of Simon Wiesenthal) (DVD) Born in Lviv, then part of the Austro-Hungarian empire, into a family of Orthodox Jews, Simon Wiesenthal survived the Soviet invasion of the area in the late 1930s, and suffered the arrival of the Nazis in 1941. As a young architect, Wiesenthal watched his mother being transported away for execution. He believed his wife Cyla had died too. In fact, she had escaped persecution by pretending to be a Pole. He spent four years in concentration camps, once spared by a firing squad that stopped before it reached him. As the advancing Red Army pushed into Germany, Wiesenthal was forced to march westwards by his SS guards. The survivors of this arduous trek were liberated, finally, by American troops at the Mauthausen camp in Austria, in May 1945. He cried from loneliness and then dictated a list of 91 names of camp officials. He later tracked down more than 70 of them. His biggest success was bringing Franz Stangl to justice in West Germany in 1967. Stangl was commandant at Treblinka where an estimated 800,000 Jews died. In all, he was believed to have brought 1100 war criminals to trial. The Simon Wiesenthal Centre, set up in the United States in 1977, has pressed for the extradition of numerous war crimes suspects, as well as campaigning for the rights of Holocaust survivors and an end to pensions for SS officers. "I might forgive them for myself," he once said, "but I couldn't speak for the millions they killed." In 1986, he succeeded in having gypsy ...

I'm The King Of The Castle - Susan Hill 02/07/2008

How does Susan Hill explore fear

I'm The King Of The Castle - Susan Hill I'm The King Of The Castle is a book by Susan Hill. It is about two young boys named Edmund Hooper and Charles Kingshaw. Kingshaw moved into a place called Warings which Edmund and his dad owns. This causes conflict between both of the boys. In the book you see Edmund Hooper mentally and physical torturing Charles Kingshaw to the extreme. This review will explore how Susan Hill conveys fear in the book "I'm The King Of The Castle" by mentioning her techniques and pointing out some examples where she uses fear. The first point in the book where Susan Hill uses fear is where the two boys meet each other for the first time. They act like they are afraid of each other because they feel like each other are invading there lives. The author uses snappy questions to express the fear because they don't really want to talk to each other. An example of this is where Hooper asks, "Where?", and Kingshaw replies with, "London", like they are being forced to talk to each other. The second point where fear is shown is in chapter three where Kingshaw tries to escape. Straight away the author makes it sound like an unpleasant place to be by saying, " . . . the sun came glaring down. He could feel the sweat running over his back, . . ." This sets an unsettled atmosphere for the rest of the chapter. This book relies on symbolism. We start to see this in this chapter when the crow is introduced. It is betrayed as being a being like a like a eye in a sky always looking over ...

Western Heights in Dover- A great day out

Dover Western Heights The Dover Western Heights is one of the positive places on Dover. Planet Hollywood, London 20/06/2008

Planet Hollywood

Planet Hollywood, London Planet Hollywood is a great place to eat out compared to other places to eat in London. When you walk in you have a nice bar to have a drink and watch a bit of sport. Also when you walk in you can see Will Smith's hand prints and also a Terminator model. The wait to get in can be up to 3 hours so it is best to eat around 4:00 - 5.00 pm when there is only a 15 minute wait when you can have a drink at the bar while you are waiting. Once you are inside it is split up into three parts. The main bit which is in the middle, the bond room and another bit which is quite small. When you are indise you can see all the famous memorabilia including Indiana Jones's whip, Forest Gump's top and Grece Lightining's coat. The menu is very like an American DInner Menu with ribs and burgers etc. The toilets are of very high standered that is why you have to pay to get in there but it is worth the money as they are really clean and decorated well. The food can be quite good priced with a voucher you can use which well save you 30%! ...

Sony Ericsson W950i Walkman 17/06/2008

Sony Ericsson W950i - Good phone or bad phone?

Sony Ericsson W950i Walkman I have recently purchased this phone. I think it is a good buy for my needs. I like music a lot and it has got a big memory so i can store all my music. It can also put your music in moods so when you feal happy you can play happy songs and when you are fealing sad you can listen to sad songs. With the moods there comes with a moving background when you are listening to music and you can change the colour and speed of the objects in to background. You can also use an equalizer when you want to change the tone of the song. The only down side to this phone is that there isn't an in-built camera or video recorder but that is another bad thing. As the phone is touchscreen it can recognize your handwriting so you dont have to press all the buttons. This feature is useful when you are on the go and need to text to somebody quickly. A bad thing about this phone is that the buttons are quite hard to text and also the phone is like a brick. Altogether this phone is good if you want to listen to music and text quickly. ...

I Am Legend (DVD) 12/06/2008

I am Legend Review - A great film!

I Am Legend (DVD) Will Smith stars in this action packed blockbuster film. This film is directed by Francis Lawrence and runs for 100 minutes. It was released on December 16th 2007 at the cinemas hen later released on Blu-ray and DVD. On the Blu-ray version there is an alternate ending which is completely different. This film is It is the third feature film adaptation of Richard Matheson's 1954 novel of the same name, following 1964's The Last Man on Earth and 1971's The Omega Man. Production of the film started in 2006 in New York City where they spent $5 million (£2.5 million) on one scene! Most of the scenes in New York are actually in New York which is quite good for a film as they usually use a green screen behind them. The film starts with a recorded news tape of news bulletins then through out the movie Robert Nevile has a series of flashbacks about what had happened then towards the end of the movie you will understand what had happened. The ending is very dramatic and makes you think would you do that! Some critics say that the film is mainly about a man trying to survive but i think it is a really good film and a really good adaptation of the book. It is a must see film! ...

LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures (PS3) 11/06/2008

LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures (PS3)

LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures (PS3) Indiana Jones is a new platform game recently released on June 6th 2008. I must tell you first that this game has got nothing to do with the new film Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, it is just a coincident. This game is very similar as the Lego Star Wars games as they are made by the same developers and use the same program to make it. The controls are also kind of the same as well. There are five hidden Star Wars characters inside the game which you need to look closely for. One of the good things about this game is that it only costs £29.99 so it is quite affordable. Also it is not really easy as there is many logical puzzles inside the game which you need to complete to get further on in the game. There are 3 main bits to the game which are the three movies; Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Then inside those three sections there is 6 sub-levels per section which totals to 18 levels. Plus inside the game there are some bonus levels but you need to search for those levels. Also like the Star Wars Games you will unlock free play mode after you complete each level. Plus you get True Adventurer if you collect a certain amount of coins and you collect treasure chests instead of mini-kits in the Lego game. This game has lots of humor in it so at some points it makes you laugh. This game overall is for all ages as it has something for everyone and is only rated a U so in my opinion it is a ...

Nou Camp - Barcelona F.C., Barcelona 21/05/2008

Barcelona F.C, Nou Camp - Tour

Nou Camp - Barcelona F.C., Barcelona I have recently traveled to Barcalona and this was the highlight of my trip. The football stadium has main transport links through a number of tourism buses, including the citysightseeing bus (blue route). Also there are transport links through the underground metro and tram. The tour is roughly around 17 euros each for an adult. The tour lets you go around the main features pf the stadium. You get to experiance the guest changing rooms where famous football teams like Manchester United and Chelsea have got changed then you also get to go pass the small chapel where the footballers can pray before a match. After that you get to go to the press room where the confrences take place. Then you get to go matchside and see what the stadium is like from the heart. Then you get to sit in the standered seats and then the brodcasting / V.I.P seats at the top. After you get to go to the museum and see the famous trophys and awards that the football club have achives. You also can see the history of the club. For an extra 5 euros you can go on a virtual experiance and see what it feels like to play with the stars. This is a once in a liftime experiance and is a must do. You should come prepared with drinks as can be highly priced once your inside. You should also spend at least half-a-day to have a full experiance.
